Trump: ‘My dream’ is for Saudi Arabia to join the Abraham Accords

President Trump said it was his “fervent hope and wish, even my dream” for Saudi Arabia to join the Abraham Accords.

“I think it will be a tremendous tribute to your country, and it will be something that’s really going to be very important for the future of the Middle East,” he said in a speech at the U.S.-Saudi Investment Summit in Riyadh on Tuesday.

The Abraham Accords are a 2020 agreement signed by the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain that normalized relations with Israel.

He said the accords have “been an absolute bonanza” for the signed countries.

“It will be a special day in the Middle East with the whole world watching when Saudi Arabia joins us, and you’ll be greatly honoring me, and you’ll be greatly honoring all of those people that have fought so hard for the Middle East,” he said.

Mr. Trump said he thinks “it’s going to be something special, but you’ll do it in your own time, and that’s what I want, and that’s what you want, and that’s the way it’s going to be.”

Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has said Saudi Arabia won’t establish diplomatic relations with Israel unless a Palestinian state is recognized.

“The kingdom will not cease its tireless efforts to establish an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, and we affirm that the kingdom will not establish diplomatic relations with Israel without one,” the crown prince said in September. “We thank all the countries that recognized the Palestinian state as an embodiment of international legitimacy, and we urge other countries to take similar steps.”
