CNN Makes Awkward On-Air Gaffe, Mixes Up Barack Obama With Osama Bin Laden

CNN committed a howler in its Friday night live broadcast in which it referred to Osama bin Laden as Obama bin Laden, drawing criticism on social media.
A graphic on “CNN News Central” read in part, “OBAMA BIN LADEN ASSOCIATE: ABU ZUBAYDAH,” videos of the news segment circulating on social media show. The graphic appeared as anchor Boris Sanchez spoke of interrogation techniques used on Al-Qaeda terrorist Abu Zubaydah in Guantanamo Bay, where Zubaydah is still held and President Donald Trump instructed Jan. 28 that illegal immigrants in the U.S. found guilty of egregious crimes will be imprisoned.
Sanchez was highlighting the treatment of Zubaydah in the detention facility while speaking of Trump’s plan to hold criminal illegal migrants there. Sanchez himself did not mix up former President Barack Obama with Osama bin Laden — although he did stumble over Zubaydah’s name, according to videos.
CNN‘s howler did not escape notice as viewers excoriated the outlet for it.
“Yesterday CNN was talking about Big Balls. Today they’re talking about Obama Bin Laden. Great job guys!” ran an X user’s apparently sarcastic remark.
“CNN just had the Freudian slip of the century—“Obama Bin Laden” on live TV,” another user commented in part, while implying that the news outlet was a “propaganda machine” and one of the “mainstream media clowns.”
“CNN is a massive failure!!” another user claimed.
