EXCLUSIVE: GOP Reps Propose Resolution Encouraging ‘Full Participation’ Of Taiwan In Key Asia Forum

Republican lawmakers introduced a resolution encouraging the full participation of Taiwan in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation, according to a copy of the resolution shared with the Daily Caller News Foundation.

Reps. Lance Gooden of Texas, Andy Biggs of Arizona, Tom Tiffany of Wisconsin, Burgess Owens of Utah and 11 others introduced the resolution, which will allow Taiwan’s president to “attend all future Asia-Pacific Economic (APEC) leaders’ events held within the United States and its territories on an equal footing with leaders of other APEC member states,” the resolution states. APEC is an intergovernmental economic and trade forum whose mission is “championing free and open trade and investment” for the sake of “sustainable economic growth and prosperity” in the Asia-Pacific, according to its website.
