US 'Failing' to Deter Rising Chinese Aggression at Sea

Beijing is poised to further ratchet up its aggressive acts in the heavily disputed South China Sea, China experts fear, as President Xi Jinping looks to capitalize on having U.S. officials suddenly preoccupied with preventing the further expansion of large-scale conflicts in Europe and the Middle East.
A Chinese coast guard ship and accompanying vessel rammed into a Philippine coast guard ship and a military-run supply boat on Sunday near a contested shoal. The incident drew a harsh rebuke from the U.S. State Department.
