Biden’s ambiguity versus Reagan’s moral clarity

When President Biden stated that “we do not ask any nation to choose between the United States or any other partner” in his recent speech before the U.N. General Assembly, I was startled. At a moment in history when the world needs moral clarity from the United States more than ever, Joe Biden chose weakness with the one world gang at the failing U.N.

It wasn’t so long ago that President Ronald Reagan was rallying the world around the belief that confronting the Soviet Union and their communist dictatorship was a clear-cut battle of good against evil. “We win, they lose,” Reagan used to say about his preferred outcome in the Cold War against Marxism-Leninism and the “evil empire” in Moscow. So, when Joe Biden tells the world he’s not asking for anyone to choose sides, he’s giving the likes of Russia, China, Iran and their allies a free pass and providing an open invitation for more bad behavior.

The American president is the singular world leader who must remind the world that sometimes it’s necessary to choose sides. The world should choose between sovereignty and Russian atrocities in Ukraine, the world should choose between human rights and Uyghur genocide in China, and the world should choose between democratic principles and women’s rights and the world’s leading state-sponsor of terrorism in Iran.
