Coronavirus Australia live updates: Number plates scanned this weekend
Police will be scanning number plates across the Easter weekend in NSW and telling people to "go back home" or risk getting a ticket.

Number plates will be scanned on country roads, back streets, main highways and caravans parks across NSW this weekend to find those people "that may think they can get around these laws", the police commissioner says.
The technology is also being used in WA which has enforced a hard border closure, and non-compliant people who breach self isolation or quarantine will be fitted with an ankle bracelet with “GPS tracking capability”.
Scott Morrison has warned coronavirus lockdowns won’t be lifted any “time soon” and now one state leader says he “won’t hesitate” to bring in stage four restrictions.
Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews says while the curve of new infections appears to be flattening, things could worsen again and tighter lockdowns will bring “pain” and “disruption” but “that is a price worth paying if it saves lives”.
