Lottery scam on Facebook hits Australia, prompts warning from Queensland Police

AUSSIES have already lost hundreds of thousands of dollars in this latest online scam — and it’s easier to fall for than you might think.

THERE’S a new scam sweeping Facebook and just as the US begins to realise how widespread the damage is, the online con is hitting Aussies.

In a statement released today, Queensland Police warned Facebook users about a new lottery scam that more than 30 people have already fallen for.

It has cost Queensland residents hundreds of thousands of dollars just in the few weeks it’s been in Australia.

Victims have told police they receive a message from someone who claims to be an employee for Facebook or even the platform’s founder Mark Zuckerberg.
