Lawmakers across both parties continued to pummel President Obama on Sunday with criticism over his handling of the rise of Islamic State militants in Iraq and Syria.
“Our intelligence agencies underestimated the threat and the President did as well,” former Nebraska Sen. Bob Kerrey said Sunday on John Catsimatidis’ 970 AM radio show, adding that President Obama “got behind the ball.”
"We underestimated the threat of a global jihad,” added Kerrey, who also served as president of the New School from 2001 to 2010. "This is a global jihad that comes out of the Muslim religion.”

‘Mr. President, level with the American people: You need boots on the ground,’ Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) said Sunday.
Kerrey added that Obama’s decision to withdraw U.S. troops from Iraq in 2011 “was a mistake” but stressed that beating ISIS and other terrorists would require fighting them in many countries, including Nigeria, Somalia “and elsewhere where organizations have sworn themselves to kill as many Muslims, Jews and Christians as they can to establish their religious order.”
Last month, Obama outlined his most detailed plan yet to fight ISIS — a strategy focused mostly on airstrikes in Iraq and Syria, but with no dispatch of ground troops.

Republicans, however, have repeatedly bashed the plan, calling for the deployment of combat troops.
“There is no way I can see how we’re going to fix the problem in Iraq, in Syria without American ground troops,” South Carolina Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham reiterated Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union.” “This mythical Arab army we’re trying to get up to go in on the ground in Syria will need a lot of American hand-holding."

President Obama has faced blistering criticism over his response to ISIS.
“Mr. President, level with the American people: You need boots on the ground,” Graham said.
“American soldiers to go to Syria and Iraq as part of a coalition.”
