Trump Turns America 250 Kickoff Into Campaign-Style Rally on National Mall

President Donald Trump is formally kicking off celebrations for America’s 250th anniversary by working to get the country excited again.

The president hosted a rally Wednesday night on Washington's National Mall, including a flyover by stealth bombers, military bands, singer Lee Greenwood of “God Bless the USA” fame and a Trump speech.

It comes as Trump works to convince Americans ahead of critical November midterm elections that he's put the divisive Iran war in the rearview mirror, with oil prices easing as the Strait of Hormuz has started to reopen in the wake of an interim deal to end the war with Tehran.

The event is part of weeks of celebrations about America and its 1776 founding as part of “The Great American State Fair” on the mall, the national park that stretches from the U.S. Capitol to the Lincoln Memorial.

Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas, told Newsmax on Wednesday that President Donald Trump has grown impatient as the SAVE America Act remains stalled in the Senate.

On "American Agenda," the outgoing lawmaker said Trump "wants to see us get stuff done. He's telling the Senate, quit hiding behind things and figure out how to get this done."
Roy is the primary sponsor of the voter ID legislation in the House, where the bill was approved last year. The delay in the Senate, he said, is problematic for most conservatives.

"The Senate is dealing with it," he said. "They're dealing with their filibuster rules. We called long ago that they should be modifying their rules or using what we call the talking filibuster to force things through."

Commentary

It’s mind-boggling that elections and election results take so long to complete, especially in a developed nation such as the United States.

It’s inexcusable that our modern society can’t establish firm timelines and expedite tabulation when many nations, both developed and developing, announce results on the same day as the election or within a day or two. Many of those countries lack the election technologies that the United States takes for granted.

In the case of very close elections similar to the George W. Bush vs. Al Gore in 2000, there was a need to proceed slowly as the razor thin election boiled down to the state of Florida. ...

The chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee has condemned communist China for engaging in “hostage diplomacy” after Chinese authorities detained an American citizen during an academic trip earlier this month. One expert suggests that Beijing’s move was aimed at securing its strategic interests.

“China’s detention of an American citizen is deeply troubling,” Sen. Jim Risch (R-Idaho) said on X on June 22.

“The Chinese Communist Party must stop its egregious use of hostage diplomacy and its efforts to export repressive practices.”

China’s foreign ministry on June 12 announced the arrest of U.S. citizen U Min Zin on suspicion of conducting espionage in the country that threatened its national security. The ministry didn’t elaborate on the accusation, only saying that it had informed the U.S. side.

The UK, France, and Germany issued a joint statement on June 24 warning that the Chinese regime’s activities off the east coast of Taiwan are a threat to regional stability and freedom of navigation.

Earlier this month, China sent coast guard ships into the waters east of the island for a “special maritime traffic law-enforcement operation.”

The British Office in Taipei—which acts as a de facto embassy—issued a joint statement with French and German equivalents in the Taiwanese capital, in which they stated: “We have noted with concern novel Chinese activity in the waters east of Taiwan.

“These actions threaten regional stability and the freedom of navigation and safety of international shipping.

Trump Won't Sign Housing Bill Unless Save America Act Also Passed

President Donald Trump said Wednesday on Truth Social that he will not sign a sweeping bipartisan housing bill that cleared Congress with overwhelming support, throwing the future of one of the most significant housing measures in years into doubt.

The president wrote that "today's housing news conference and signing is hereby canceled until such time as we pass the desperately needed Save America Act, which I consider to be a national emergency."

Trump's announcement came just one day after the House passed the 21st Century Road to Housing Act by a vote of 358-32 and two days after the Senate approved the measure 85-5, marking a rare bipartisan achievement in a Congress that has been plagued by partisan gridlock.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent on Tuesday described a doctrine of “economic statecraft” that would link U.S. economic policy more closely to national sovereignty and security, contending that assumptions underpinning the postwar global order have created critical vulnerabilities that adversaries can exploit.

Speaking at The Economic Club of New York’s America 250 Gala Dinner on the eve of the nation’s 250th anniversary, Bessent argued that the United States helped build an open economic system that brought broad global benefits, but that system needs to be reconsidered.

“We came to believe that access to the American market could be extended without condition—and therefore without consequence,” Bessent said in prepared remarks. “We assumed that closer economic integration would result in a greater convergence of interests. That supply chains would function in every crisis. Low prices would compensate for lost capacity. And above all, that other countries would treat our firms as fairly as we had treated theirs.”

The old Castro regime and the Castro family are not finding the Donroe Doctrine to their liking, and that's for sure and for certain. Their primary oil source, Venezuela, is now in hands at least somewhat more friendly to the United States - and now the American State Department is hitting Cuba in the pocketbook again. On Tuesday, Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced a new round of sanctions on at least five Cuban enterprises and directly on one member of the Castro clan. Several of the sanctions hit the "Grupo de Administración Empresarial S.A. (GAESA)," (in English, "Business Administration Group S.A."), which controls a substantial portion of Cuba's moribund economy.

Rubio designated five entities generating revenue for the current Cuban regime, including three associated with the previously designated Grupo de Administración Empresarial S.A. (GAESA), and one member of the extended Castro family. 

"Today, I am designating five Cuban entities generating revenue for the Cuban regime, including three associated with the previously designated Grupo de Administración Empresarial S.A. (GAESA), and one member of the extended Castro family pursuant to President Trump's Executive Order (E.O.) 14404 of May 1, 2026, "Imposing Sanctions on Those Responsible for Repression in Cuba and for Threats to United States National Security and Foreign Policy," Rubio said in a statement.

"GAESA continues to operate as the financial muscle behind the Cuban regime’s repressive security apparatus. Two of the entities designated today are GAESA-linked financial institutions associated with moving money on the regime’s behalf, and one is a GAESA-linked logistics company that executes the regime’s bidding across the island," Rubio continued.

We might note that the financial muscle behind the Cuban regime has grown pretty thin on the bone.
