Trump: US Ready to Help Quake-Hit Venezuela

President Donald Trump said the U.S. is "ready, willing, and able to help" Venezuela after the country was struck by powerful back-to-back earthquakes Wednesday evening.

Trump announced on Truth Social that he had directed federal agencies to prepare an immediate response after the devastating quakes, which left at least 164 people dead and hundreds more injured. Officials warned the death toll was expected to rise.

"The two major earthquakes that just hit the great people of Venezuela are both massive in scale and have left a devastating number of deaths," Trump wrote. "The U.S.A. stands ready, willing, and able to help! I have instructed all agencies of our government to get ready to move quickly. We will be there for our new and great friends. Early reports are not good!!!"

Secretary of State Marco Rubio echoed the president's message Thursday, extending condolences to the Venezuelan people and announcing the rapid deployment of American assistance.

"Our hearts are with all those who have lost loved ones, those injured, and the courageous rescue workers working tirelessly in the aftermath," Rubio wrote on X. "America stands with the Venezuelan people during this difficult time and, at the direction of President Trump, the State Department is immediately deploying search and rescue teams, medical resources, and humanitarian assistance to Venezuela."

According to the Washington Examiner, Rubio later said search-and-rescue teams from Fairfax County, Virginia, and Los Angeles were among the first responders heading to Venezuela. He said the State Department also activated its disaster response and humanitarian assistance teams.
