This summer, as temperatures soared past 100 degrees, a memo from the Architect of the Capitol ordered Senate staffers to turn off hallway lights, power down their TVs and stop using elevators because the DC electric grid couldn’t handle the heat.
It would have made for a great headline in the Babylon Bee: lawmakers in charge of ensuring American energy dominance sitting in the dark, sweating through the failure of their own grid. If Washington can’t even keep the A/C running, why should it dictate how the rest of the country powers its future?
Thankfully, millions of American families are taking matters into their own hands by generating and storing their own power at home.
It’s called the Freedom Grid – a decentralized, resilient, citizen-powered network of backup batteries that can be recharged by rooftop solar panels or other small-scale generators. Batteries capture electricity when it’s cheap and abundant, and deliver it when demand surges or the grid goes down.
