‘Shameful’: Mike Johnson Shares What Was In Resolution Honoring Charlie Kirk That Many Democrats Refused To Support

House Speaker Mike Johnson slammed Democrats on Fox Business Friday for refusing to back a resolution honoring the life and legacy of Charlie Kirk. 

The House approved a resolution honoring Kirk in a 310-58 vote Friday. Exactly 58 Democrats — including Democratic New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Democratic Texas Rep. Jasmine Crockett — opposed the measure. During an interview on “Kudlow,” Johnson said the resolution condemned political violence, praised Kirk’s commitment to free speech and patriotism, and called on Americans to seek unity in the wake of his assassination.

 “118 Democrats this afternoon, Larry, decided not to vote or to vote no on this resolution. All it does is affirm a young American who died too early, who gave his life to American principles and values and patriotism and free speech,” Johnson told host Larry Kudlow. “And it decried the assassination and political violence that’s taken over our country. Democrats voted against that, and I think it’s shameful.” 

Johnson said lawmakers across the aisle initially wanted to formally honor Kirk’s legacy, but Democrats backed away.
