Sydney police will have a close eye on a vigil for assassinated MAGA figure Charlie Kirk at a gathering on Friday night.

Police will monitor a vigil for assassinated American MAGA figure Charlie Kirk in Sydney on Friday.
An offshoot of his organisation Turning Point USA, Turning Point Australia, has organised a vigil for the commentator in Sydney’s Hyde Park.
“Violence is never the answer to political disagreement and diminishes the very principles that democracy is built on,” Turning Point Australia director Joel Jammal said online.
“Charlie’s life’s work shows us that if your ideas need violence to be accepted by others, then they’re not the right ideas.”
Mr Kirk, 31, was shot dead at Utah Valley University on Wednesday as he hosted one of his signature open-forum campus debates. Graphic video captured the incident. As of 8pm AEST Thursday, Utah police continue to hunt for the shooter.

President Donald Trump has ordered all American flags be flown at half mast in honour of Mr Kirk.
