It’s a little early in the game, but political junkies are already talking about the 2028 presidential election. Donald Trump will be termed out, and the frenzy to replace him promises to be an epic battle between two vastly different views of the future of the country.
On one hand, you have the progressives, who have a remarkably successful record in elections despite the fact that they usually bring misery and failure wherever they go. We could laugh at the folks that Democrats are talking up for next time—former Vice President Kamala Harris, who got smoked on November 5 by Trump, California Gov. Gavin Newsom, who’s good at sweeping speeches but terrible at governing, Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker, who has watched a population exodus as he keeps raising taxes and tripling down on progressivism, and others.
That being said, who thought someone as uninspiring and inept as Joe Biden could ever have won a major election?
On the Republican side, we have the obvious potential candidacy of Vice President JD Vance, the possibility of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis jumping into the ring… but not Secretary of State Marco Rubio, at least according to what he said on “My View With Lara Trump” on Fox News Sunday.
He’s just focused on his current job, he said, and hopes Vance has his eye on the prize:
Well, I think JD Vance would be a great nominee. (Laughter.) And if – I think if he decides he wants to do that. And so – and I think he’s doing a great job as Vice President. He’s a close friend, and I hope he intends to do it. I know it’s kind of early.
But being in the role that I’m in here as the Secretary of State, I really don’t play in politics. There’s actually rules against me being involved in domestic politics, and I want to do this job as long as the President allows me to do it and stay in that job, which would keep me here all the way through January of 2028.
