Law Firm Linked to Hunter Biden Registers as Foreign Agent

A prominent law firm with links to Ukrainian energy company Burisma — which Hunter Biden served on the board of — has registered as a foreign agent eight years later.
Thursday's retroactive filing came after the law firm Cravath, Swain & Moore discussed the scope of the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA) with the Justice Department, according to a statement the firm emailed to Politico.
While it is unusual for foreign agents to register years after finishing their work, several have done so in recent years as foreign lobbying efforts have played a role in a string of political controversies and the Justice Department has signaled a renewed interest in enforcement.
According to the filing, in 2016, Cravath partner John Buretta met with three Obama administration officials and sent a letter to a fourth as part of his work for Burisma and company owner Mykola Zlochevsky. The company and its owner were under scrutiny at the time from U.S., Ukrainian and United Kingdom officials for possible corruption.
