Peace And Unity? Not So Fast, ‘Big Guy’

The post-election itch for peace and unity reminds me of the trap the West fell into between the world wars. They were so obsessed with peace – at any cost – that they pretended not to see Hitler’s blatant violations of the Peace Treaty of Versailles. For him, the treaty was just toilet paper.
Even when Hitler started punching Europe with sharp elbows, the West was extremely reluctant to enforce the peace after winning the war. When it became obvious that Hitler was getting out of control, their squishiness for peace left them reacting to events when new circumstances required them to govern events.
