Australia is making progress against coronavirus but that could all be undone this weekend, authorities have warned. Health Minister Greg Hunt said today that Easter was "in many ways the most important weekend we may face in the whole course of the virus".

Mr Hunt flagged restrictions could begin to be lifted in “slow, careful steps” but cautioned Aussies not to get their hopes up. “We’ve been upfront that we see this as a six-month process,” he told reporters. “We haven’t changed our guidance but where we can take early steps that are safe, then we will obviously look to do that.”
It comes as the government’s $130 billion JobKeeper wage subsidy passes parliament in a bid to save six million jobs from being lost in the economic shutdown, which authorities say will go on for at least a few more weeks until there is enough data on the community transmission of coronavirus to map a “way out”.
