US and Canada reach last-minute deal to preserve NAFTA

The United States and Canada reached a last-minute deal late Sunday night on reforming the North American Free Trade Agreement, officials said.
Hours before a midnight deadline, Canada agreed to stay in the free-trade pact — now dubbed the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement, or USMCA — by joining a deal the US and Mexico reached last month.
The revised agreement will result in “freer markets, fairer trade and robust economic growth in our region,” said US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer and Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister Chrystia Freeland in a joint statement.
