Political scribe: Dems Are Readying for Impeachment
The selection of Manhattan Rep. Jerrold Nadler as ranking member of the House Judiciary Committee is “the clearest sign yet” that Democrats are gearing up for a “full-blown constitutional showdown” they hope will end with President Trump’s impeachment, says The Washington Post’s Paul Kane. So much for Dem leaders’ warnings “not to push for impeachment because the public might view it as an overreach.” Nadler’s victory over California Rep. Zoe Lofgren, who stressed immigration issues, demonstrates that the House Democratic caucus “wants to be ready to clash with Trump if it vaults into the majority after next year’s midterm elections.” Nadler, who has called Trump “not legitimate” as president, was one of Bill Clinton’s strongest defenders against impeachment.
