A billionaire populist nicknamed the ‘Czech Trump’ has decisively won the Czech Republic’s election on Saturday in a vote that shifted the country to the right.
Andrej Babis’ Eurosceptic ANO party captured 29.6 percent of the vote, paving the way for him to become the country’s next prime minister.
Czech Statistics Office said ANO won in a landslide, gaining 78 of the 200 parliamentary seats.
‘It’s a huge success,’ Babis told supporters and journalists at his headquarters in Prague.
The 63-year-old is the county’s second-richest man, with a media empire including two major newspapers and a popular radio station.
