TWO people are dead in New Zealand following a major earthquake that caused widespread panic and power outages and a tsunami early Monday.
The powerful 7.5 magnitude earthquake was felt across much of the country just after midnight local time. It struck near Hanmer Springs, 91km north of Christchurch, which is still recovering after being devastated by an earthquake in 2011.
