Canada ‘foolish’ to get into trade war with Trump, says Duffy

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy fired back at Canada on live television Sunday morning after Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced “dollar-for-dollar” retaliatory tariffs in response to the new 50% U.S. tariffs.
Speaking on Fox News Sunday, Duffy said it was “foolish” for Canada to start a trade war with the United States, in part, because America’s northern neighbor “doesn’t have a military.”
Canada does have a military, though it is much smaller than the U.S. military. “We’re great trading partners … but Canada gets the benefit of trading with the U.S. way more than the U.S. gets the benefit of trading with Canada,” Duffy said.

US strikes Iran for second time in two days in battle for Strait of Hormuz

The US unleashed a fresh wave of strikes on Iran, its second in two days, in response to the regime’s attacks across the region, President Trump said, adding that peace negotiations were off the table.
“The strikes are large and powerful, and in retaliation for the Iranians’ failed attempt at adding sea mines to the Strait, which currently has no mines (They have been completely removed or detonated!), and the Iranians shooting eight missiles, all successfully knocked down, at our Military Base in Jordan,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
“If the failed Nation of Iran retaliates for this very justified attack, they will be hit again at a much harder and higher level, but it will not be the biggest attack of them all, that is waiting in the wings and, when it is over, there will be very little left of the Islamic Republic of Iran!” he warned.

As Beijing continues to portray China’s economy as resilient amid weakening economic data, critics who spoke to The Epoch Times are expressing a different view, saying that jobs are disappearing, businesses are struggling, housing values are falling, and the system’s future looks increasingly uncertain.
The contrast has become particularly visible since mid-August, when Beijing began releasing economic data for the first seven months of 2026. While regime officials highlighted strong exports and growth in high-tech industries, most major indicators weakened.
Fixed-asset investment fell 6.7 percent year over year—a larger decline than in the first half of the year and worse than the forecast 6.2 percent. Real estate development investment fell 19.2 percent, while private investment declined 9.4 percent.

Dr. Anthony Fauci said an aide should delete an email about risky research his agency was funding, according to documents released on Aug. 29 by Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.).
“Please delete this e-mail and then delete from the deleted file,” Fauci told Dr. Clifford Lane, a senior official at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), in a missive on March 4, 2012.
Fauci, NIAID’s director at the time, was commenting on an op-ed that criticized risky research that created a more transmissible H5N1 influenza virus. The research, led by European scientist Ron Fouchier, was funded by the NIAID.
The op-ed said the virus appeared to spread easily and would be lethal to humans if it escaped confinement or was stolen by terrorists. It highlighted the ...

ASHEVILLE, N.C.—U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent says that growth and deregulation policies are effective, while socialist policies are not, pointing to countries across the Western Hemisphere where voters have ousted socialist governments in recent elections.
“We’ve seen some great examples. I think we have a generational opportunity in the Western Hemisphere,” Bessent said on Tuesday during a fireside chat event with Larry Kudlow, former director of the National Economic Council, at the G20 summit in Asheville.
Bessent praised changes in countries across the Western Hemisphere in recent years, including Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, Chile, and Ecuador.
He made these remarks on the sidelines of the G20 summit for finance ministers and central bank governors on its second and final day.
Bessent also commented on the rising number of progressive and self-described socialist candidates in Democratic primaries.

A majority of Americans now consider themselves members of the "working class," a label that cuts broadly across traditional lines of income, education, and occupation, according to new Pew Research Center polling published this week.
Among U.S. adults, 60% say "working class" describes them extremely or very well, up from 54% in 2024.
While the identification is strongest among Americans without four-year college degrees and those with middle incomes, half of college graduates and half of upper-income Americans also embrace the label.
The findings underscore just how expansive, and politically valuable, the working class has become as both Republicans and Democrats compete to portray themselves as its champion heading into the November midterm elections.
Pew found a distinct partisan divide, 67% of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents identify as working class, compared with 55% of Democrats and democratic leaners.

U.S.President Donald Trump announced on Aug. 28 that the United States had reached what he called “the biggest oil deal in world history,” giving the United States majority control over the development of more than 65 billion barrels of Venezuela’s proven heavy crude reserves.
While oil-rich Venezuela remains significantly behind Canada in oil production after years of infrastructure neglect and political isolation, experts say the country’s potential return to the global oil market could increase pressure on Canada from its neighbour to the south and largest energy export customer.
Venezuelan interim President Delcy Rodríguez has said the deal will last 25 years, cover 17 oilfields, and target production of more than 1.5 million barrels per day.

Jim Banks Has a Message for Republicans About What’s at Stake This November

Sen. Jim Banks will deliver remarks Monday night in which he declares that the next generation of Republican leadership can be simultaneously “America First” and unequivocally pro-Israel, according to excerpts of his speech obtained by Townhall.
Banks is unequivocal in his support of President Trump, America, and Israel, saying, "I was proud to put on the uniform and serve my country in Afghanistan. I am proudly pro-Trump. I am proudly America First, and as a next generation leader for the Republican Party, I am proudly and unapologetically pro-Israel."
Then he turns his sights to the midterm elections and emphasizes the importance of electing Republicans.
"Ladies and gentlemen," Banks says, "as we look to this November, it is more important than ever that Republicans win across the country. From reelecting Jon Husted in Ohio, the real Dan Sullivan in Alaska, and Susan Collins in Maine, to ensuring we elect new Senators like Ashley Hinson in Iowa and Mike Rogers in Michigan, we have a lot of work to do."
Earlier this month, Banks revealed that a pledge was circulated to House Democrats. It was a simple request: Democrats were asked to pledge that they are capitalists, not socialists. Only 10 of 212 Democrats signed the pledge.

Antisemitism in Seven Populous Democracies 2025
In July 2023, Jewish organizations in the seven largest Jewish communities outside Israel founded a task force to battle the rise of antisemitism in their democracies.
These Jewish groups could not have foreseen that less than three months later, the fifth defeated Islamic genocidal war against Israel since 1948 would be launched and simultaneously coordinated with an explosion of antisemitic attacks in their countries.

The U.S. Supreme Court issued an order Aug. 31 allowing construction of President Donald Trump’s White House ballroom project to continue while the administration contests a lower court order that would block much of the development.
The justices voted 5–4 to grant the federal government’s request to stay a lower court’s order halting above-ground construction of the ballroom while a lawsuit against the project by a historic preservation group plays out.
The majority said the plaintiff in the underlying lawsuit, the National Trust for Historic Preservation in the United States, appeared to lack standing, or the right to bring a lawsuit.
The majority said the government also established it would probably “succeed on the merits of a significant legal question, that it would likely suffer irreparable ...
