Tesla Says Report Its Board Is Looking to Replace CEO Elon Musk Is False
The vehicle maker said it backs Musk’s leadership while denying a report it’s board was in touch with recruitment firms.

Electric vehicle maker Tesla on May 1 denied a report that its board had sought to replace Elon Musk as its chief executive amid a plunging stock and declining sales.
“Earlier today, there was a media report erroneously claiming that the Tesla board had contacted recruitment firms to initiate a CEO search at the company,” Tesla Chair Robyn Denholm said in a statement on social media platform X.
“This is absolutely false (and this was communicated to the media before the report was published). The CEO of Tesla is Elon Musk, and the board is highly confident in his ability to continue executing on the exciting growth plan ahead.”
Denholm’s statement followed a report from The Wall Street Journal that claimed board members at Tesla had started contacting various executive search firms to find a new CEO roughly a month ago.
Tesla’s board is made up of eight people, including Musk, his brother Kimbal Musk, and James Murdoch, the son of media mogul Rupert Murdoch.
The Journal, citing people familiar with the discussions, reported that the company’s board met with Musk and told him he needed to publicly acknowledge that he needed to spend more time at Tesla.

President Donald Trump’s national security adviser, Mike Waltz, was nominated to be President Donald Trump’s ambassador to the United Nations, the president announced Thursday.
Trump wrote on Truth Social that Waltz would be nominated as his next U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, coming after Reuters and other media outlets, citing anonymous administration officials, reported that Waltz and his deputy, Alex Wong, will be leaving on Thursday.
“I am pleased to announce that I will be nominating Mike Waltz to be the next United States Ambassador to the United Nations,” Trump said. “From his time in uniform on the battlefield, in Congress and, as my National Security Advisor, Mike Waltz has worked hard to put our Nation’s Interests first.”
In the meantime, Trump said Secretary of State Marco Rubio will be his interim national security adviser in Waltz’s stead. Rubio will also continue “his strong leadership” in the State Department, according to his post.

Trump Administration Celebrates Release of More Detained Americans

Trump administration officials this week celebrated the return of dozens of U.S. citizens detained abroad who have been released in the first 100 days of the president's second term.
“Thanks to @POTUS's leadership, Belarus has released another wrongfully detained U.S. citizen,” Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Wednesday in reference to the release of Youras Ziankovich.
Youras Ziankovich was arrested in Moscow in 2021 and then was brought to Belarus’s capital Minsk, where he was accused of being part of a US-backed coup plot against Belarus’ strongman leader Alexander Lukashenko. The US State Department denied any such involvement.
Ziankovich had been declared wrongfully detained in February 2025. There was not a prisoner swap that led to his release, Boehler and the unnamed official said.
“No exchange,” Boehler told CNN Wednesday. “It really was an open mindedness to have a discussion, but I think it’s real hard for us to have discussions when people are holding Americans.”
Belarus – which has been isolated from the West – is interested in “trying to warm relations with the United States,” and “they know that President Trump is not going to do anything if they’re holding Americans.”
“We’ve made that clear” across the interagency, Boehler said. (CNN)
"No president has done so much, so quickly, to keep Americans safe abroad,” Rubio added. "In just 100 days, we've also secured the release of 47 unjustly detained Americans around the world – including in Afghanistan, Russia, and Venezuela – through high-level diplomatic efforts."
Kuwait has also released nearly two dozen detained Americans in the past two months.

Canada Embraces the Collapsing Leftist Project

The Leftist Project is in collapse. But apparently, Canadians haven’t gotten the message. Or maybe they allowed their personal pique toward Donald Trump and Canadians’ genetically ingrained inferiority complex toward their ginormous brother to the south get the better of them
The latest exhibit in the case against the Leftist Project is on the energy front. Have you heard much about Europe being without power for a couple of days? It's very strange that this is not being widely reported. There is barely a mention of it in the Wall Street Journal. One would think that America's leading financial daily newspaper would be all over this story.
Thanks to social media, I only learned about it, with helpful Europeans sharing videos of empty store shelves in supermarkets and dark passageways in airports.
Spain, Portugal and parts of France went dark yesterday and are still off-line as I write. Portugal's grid operator blamed "extreme temperature variation-induced oscillations" in is high-voltage power lines. Welcome to the Brave New World of Green Energy!
What is so rich - in the You Cannot Make This Stuff Up Department kind of rich - is that just two weeks ago, Spain proclaimed that it had experienced its first weekday using 100 percent renewable power. Yeehaa!
As my old friend and defense policy expert, former Reagan administration Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense Frank Gaffney, mentions in this short audio clip, solar and wind power are inherently unreliable, which is "a formula for disaster here too." California, the state that doesn’t have water from its fire hydrants to douse blazing homes during raging wildfires, boasts that 100 days of every California year are powered by pure renewable energy. That sounds frighteningly like Spain’s recent celebratory tweets before they went dark.

Grassley calls on FBI to release Biden-era emails over jailed first-term Trump personnel
Former Trump White House official Peter Navarro speaks to reporters Friday, June 3, 2022, outside of federal court in Washington. Navarro was indicted Friday on contempt charges after defying a subpoena from the House panel investigating the Jan. 6 attack … more >
By Kerry Picket - The Washington Times - Thursday, May 1, 2025
Senate Judiciary Chairman Charles E. Grassley on Thursday asked the FBI for internal communications regarding the prosecution of President Trump and his first-term White House staff.
Mr. Grassley, Iowa Republican, released internal FBI emails showing a coordinated plan to take down White House trade adviser Peter Navarro. But he wants the bureau to publicly release more messages related to the bureau’s investigation, arrest and indictment of Mr. Navarro and other former Trump officials.
“I am making these emails public in the interest of transparency. The American people have a right to know as much as possible regarding the internal Biden Justice Department and FBI process to determine where to allocate taxpayer resources to investigate and prosecute former Trump officials,” Mr. Grassley wrote in a letter to Attorney General Pam Bondi and FBI Director Kash Patel.
The Washington Times reached out to the White House for comment.
Mr. Navarro, who serves as Mr. Trump’s expert on trade as he did in the first term, was convicted of contempt of Congress in 2022 for refusing to testify about the president to the Democratic-led House Jan. 6 committee.
The Justice Department under President Biden prosecuted Mr. Navarro and imprisoned him for four months in Miami last year.
Mr. Grassley said, “To develop a complete understanding of all efforts within the Biden Justice Department and FBI to investigate and prosecute President Trump and his White House staff,” all communications, including phone records and emails, among all Justice Department and FBI personnel related to the contempt of Congress cases should be made public.
Stephen Bannon, another adviser to Mr. Trump during his first term, was also sentenced to four months in prison for contempt of Congress last July after defying the House Jan. 6 committee.

WASHINGTON—President Donald Trump hosted chief executive officers and industry leaders at Cross Hall in the White House for an “Invest in America” event on April 30 to celebrate trillions of dollars in business development and manufacturing investments.
“The entire Trump economic agenda is about making it easier to do business in America, to create jobs in America, to hire American workers, and to build your factories here in America, not in China, or any other country,” Trump said.
The president was flanked by high-tech displays, including an Anduril drone model, emphasizing his administration’s push to rebuild American industry.
More than a dozen executives on hand for the event touted their companies’ recent commitments, totaling more than $2 trillion collectively and described as historic by the Trump administration, and sought to encourage more manufacturing development projects in the United States.
Trump said his trade policies, which include 10 percent baseline tariffs on nations worldwide—and a 145 percent tariff on Chinese goods—are spurring domestic manufacturing initiatives.
A tariff wall for the pharmaceutical industry is also in the works, he said.

Trump Video Boasts 'America First Is Back'
By Michael Katz | Wednesday, 30 April 2025 10:44 PM EDT
President Donald Trump released a new video Wednesday night touting the accomplishments of the first 100 days of his second term, featuring highlights of the "America First" economic gains made since Inauguration Day.
"At the heart of the Trump administration's policies is one overarching goal," a voice is heard at the start of the nearly four-minute video, posted on Trump's Truth Social account. "It is to stage the great American manufacturing comeback."
"President Trump pushing ahead with his America First agenda," another voice chimes in, followed by news reports of several companies planning huge investments in the U.S., including Apple working with Taiwan's FoxConn to build a server facility in Texas by 2026 as part of a planned $500 billion investment in the U.S.; and Japan's SoftBank investing $100 billion in the U.S over the next four years (with an image of Trump hugging SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son).
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt says in a TV interview, "This is President Trump delivering on a promise he made to the American people on the campaign trail."

Trump: US Economy Heading in Right Direction, China Will Probably Eat Tariffs

President Donald Trump defended his trade policies on April 29 and sought to ease Americans’ concerns about the economy, saying that China “probably will eat those tariffs.”
Trump made the comments in an interview with ABC News anchor Terry Moran when asked if Americans can expect “hard times ahead.”
Trump said he did not believe this to be the case, stating that “great times are ahead” for the U.S. economy and that it is “all heading in the right direction.”
The interview focused significantly on concerns about the overall outlook for the U.S. economy and the impact of the administration’s tariffs, which include a 10 percent universal baseline levy on most U.S. trading partners, currently in effect.
On April 9, the administration announced a 90-day pause on reciprocal tariffs for all countries except China. Most goods from China are subject to a 145 percent tariff. Some Chinese imports, such as electric vehicles, face combined tariffs of up to 245 percent. This includes a 125 percent reciprocal tariff and a 20 percent tariff to address the fentanyl crisis, according to a White House fact sheet.
Moran asked the president how he would address concerns, adding that some people who voted for him have said, “I didn’t sign up for this.”
