UK Fears China Will Use EVs to Spy on Citizens

British government officials are concerned that the push for net-zero emissions could lead to security issues with Chinese-made all-electric vehicles.
China is expected to dominate the electric vehicle market in Britain with inexpensive imports as the U.K. nears a total ban on the production of new gasoline- and diesel-powered vehicles in 2030.
Ministers are afraid the technology will make citizens subject to data mining by the Chinese, while also being vulnerable to remote interference and even disabling the vehicles, The Telegraph reported Saturday.
“If it is manufactured in a country like China, how certain can you be that it won’t be a vehicle for collecting intel and data?” a British minister told The Telegraph. “If you have electric vehicles manufactured by countries who are already using technology to spy, why would they not do the same here?
