President Donald Trump nominates Harry Harris for Australia ambassador

Thirteen months into his presidency, Donald Trump has formally announced his pick for US ambassador to Australia - Admiral Harry Harris, a tough-talking military man who has irritated the Chinese government but has the respect of the foreign policy and defence establishment in Canberra.
Speculation had been swirling for the past six months that Admiral Harris, the commander of US forces in the Pacific, was lined up for the diplomatic posting.
