As President Trump battles with Congress over funding, four companies have been selected by the federal government to build concrete prototypes of the president’s long-promised wall along the border with Mexico.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection said Thursday that Caddell Construction Company of Montgomery, Ala.; Fisher Sand & Gravel of Tempe, Ariz.; Texas Sterling Construction Company of Houston, Texas; and WG Yates and Sons Construction of Philadelphia, Miss. have been awarded contracts.
The agency issued requests for proposals in March for multiple prototypes.

Top Senate Judiciary Lawmakers: Comey Drafted Premature Exoneration Statement for Clinton

Former FBI Director James Comey drafted a statement to exonerate former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in the investigation into her use of a private email server before key portions of the probe were complete.
Senate Judiciary Committee chairman Chuck Grassley (R., Iowa) and Judiciary subcommittee chairman Lindsey Graham (R., S.C.) sent a letter to current FBI Director Chris Wray on Thursday regarding Comey's actions, Fox News reported.
"Conclusion first, fact-gathering second—that's no way to run an investigation," the letter said. "The FBI should be held to a higher standard than that, especially in a matter of such great public interest and controversy."
The Senate Judiciary Committee learned, through transcripts of interviews with top Comey aides, that the former director began drafting an exoneration letter before interviewing Clinton and other key witnesses.

VIDEO: Hurricane Irma expected to be ‘extremely dangerous’ - NEW YORK POST
Tropical Storm Irma strengthened to a Category 2 hurricane as it moved over the Atlantic Ocean on Thursday and is expected to be “extremely dangerous” for the next several days, the National Hurricane Center said.
With sustained winds already near 100 mph, Irma is forecast to become a “major hurricane” by Thursday evening as it moves west toward the Leeward Islands. By Tuesday, the storm is expected to become a Category 4 hurricane.
It’s still too early to tell what kind of impact Irma will have on the US, but it could hit the Carolinas by Sept. 10.
“The American models take it to the Carolinas by next Sunday. The European models have it going to Cuba and possibly threatening South Florida,” WKMG Orlando meteorologist Troy Bridges said. “It’s just too early to tell.”

Antifa members attack peaceful right-wing demonstrators
About 100 black-clad activists carrying makeshift shields and clubs descended on the California college town of Berkeley over the weekend and viciously attacked a small group of peaceful protestors.
Video footage of the protest shows groups of these activists kicking and punching demonstrators who have fallen in the street, swinging batons at others and threatening to destroy the cameras of anyone documenting their mayhem.
Unlike the deadly clashes in Charlottesville, Virginia earlier this month, these assailants in Berkeley weren’t far-right white supremacists or neo-Nazis, but a group of left-wing counterprotestors known as Antifa.

Obama’s Mideast legacy: Iran’s puppets all around Israel with war on the way

There are some mistakes for which the world never seems to stop paying.
When the United States chose to let Syria slide into chaos while simultaneously seeking to end the isolation of Iran with a nuclear deal, President Barack Obama thought he was avoiding trouble and giving Iran a chance to “get right with the world.”
But it turns out those blunders are still paying dividends for Iran, creating new dangers in the Middle East and threatening the hopes of the Trump administration. That was made clear this week when Yehya al-Sinwar, the leader of Hamas, announced in Gaza that the terror group had reconciled with Iran.
Prior to the outbreak of the Syrian civil war, Iran was Hamas’ main source of money and weapons and helped the terror group transform Gaza into a fortress bristling with rockets and missiles that rained terror on Israeli towns and cities.

The Obama administration likely hid information about Iran illicitly ferrying militants into Syria on commercial aircraft in order to promote the landmark nuclear deal and foster multi-billion dollar business deals with Tehran's state-controlled airline sector, according to lawmakers and other sources familiar with the matter.
The Washington Free Beacon first disclosed last week that congressional leaders are calling for an investigation into Iran for using its state-controlled air carrier, Iran Air, to ferry militant fighters into Syria, where they are taking up arms in defense of embattled President Bashar al-Assad.
Photographs provided to Congress show Iran using Iran Air to ferry these soldiers between 2016 and 2017, in part when the Obama administration removed sanctions on Iran Air and promoted multi-billion dollars sales between the carrier and aircraft manufacturer Boeing, which is seeking to provide Iran Air with a fleet of new planes that many suspect will be used to carry terrorist fighters and weapons into regional hotspots.
This behavior violates international laws governing the nuclear deal and has now led lawmakers and others to accuse the Obama administration of downplaying Iran's illicit activity in order to promote the nuclear deal and ensure Tehran receives a new commercial fleet.

Hillary Clinton's Ukrainian connection a question worth exploring

The latest news headlines indicate that the Russia 2016 election-meddling investigation is ramping up. Connected with this probe is the now infamous meeting President Trump’s son, Donald Trump Jr., had with Russian officials last June. While we are still trying to ascertain who all was in that meeting and what, if any, information was shared that could have helped Trump’s presidential campaign, we cannot ignore another meeting with a foreign government — one where we have proof serious campaign violations were committed.
Back in January of this year, Politico reported that Democratic official met with Ukrainian officials to get information on the Trump campaign in an effort to boost Hillary Clinton’s presidential bid. While it didn’t get nearly the mainstream media scrutiny that the Donald Trump Jr.'s Russia meeting is getting, it did prompt President Trump to correctly ask why it was being swept under the rug.
In a tweet last month, Trump said “Ukrainian efforts to sabotage Trump campaign — ‘quietly working to boost Clinton.’ So where is the investigation A.G.” It even prompted a Ukraine member of parliament, Andre Derkah, to send a letter last month to Ukraine’s prosecutor general requesting “that authorities launch a pretrial investigation into ‘illegal interference in the election of President of the United States organized by a criminal investigation.’” It also raised some very serious concerns for our organization, the Foundation for Accountability and Civic Trust (FACT).
This month, FACT filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) against the Democratic National Committee (DNC) and its Ukrainian-American consultant, Alexandra Chalupa, for knowingly soliciting and accepting illegal, in-kind contributions from the Ukrainian government.

America is reeling from the onslaught of Hurricane Harvey. In the midst of the suffering from the unparalleled flooding, we have seen remarkable examples of heroism and community coming to the aid of those in peril.
Americans have been enduring for weeks media, the political class and their operatives malevolently insisting that all of America is hopelessly racist and its president a facilitator of white supremacists, so watching Texans helping their stricken neighbors has been a good reminder of who we, as Americans, really are.
This is a small silver lining of a horrible event, as various malcontents continue to push on with their attempts to cast America as irredeemably irredeemable.

Harvey could be costliest disaster in US history

Hurricane Harvey, the remnants of which continue to wreak havoc in Texas and made landfall in Louisiana on Wednesday, is expected to be the costliest natural disaster in US history, a veteran weather expert said Wednesday.
“This will be the worst natural disaster in American history. The economy’s impact, by the time its total destruction is completed, will approach $160 billion, which is similar to the combined effect of Hurricanes Katrina and Sandy,” said Joel Myers, president of forecasting company AccuWeather.
Myers said the staggering figure represents 0.08 percent of the gross national product, or GDP, which is $19 trillion.

PRIME Minister Malcolm Turnbull has warned the risk of war with North Korea is “getting greater all the time”, as Kim Jong-un wrote “a suicide note”.
Speaking on Channel Nine’s A Current Affair last night, Mr Turnbull said the behaviour of the rogue state was of increasing concern after it fired a missile over Japan on Tuesday.
Prime Minister Turnbull said the repercussions for North Korea if it continued to pursue its missile ambitions would be devastating.
“If the leader of North Korea continues down this provocative track, the risk of war gets greater all the time,” Mr Turnbull told the program.

Berkeley Police Arrest 13 Protesters In Connection To Antifa Violence

Police have arrested 13 people in connection to violence following this weekend’s protest in Berkeley. In the melee, several people — mainly peaceful, right-wing protesters — became targets of violence from black-clad members of the left-wing extremist movement Antifa.
The Antifa protest was staged as a counter to a “No to Marxism” rally that never happened, but was slated to take place at the Martin Luther King Jr. Civic Center Park. Despite the cancellation of the anti-Marxist rally, over 4,000 people — mainly leftists and Antifa members — showed up to protest.
Many of them chanted slogans like “No Trump, no wall, no USA at all.”
Protesters also set up a separate demonstration on the UC Berkeley campus to “rally against hate.”
Berkeley police told CBS San Francisco that they arrested 13 suspects, between ages 20 to 47, on suspicion of various offenses. Certain individuals were charged with assault with a deadly weapon, felony assault, and violations of the city’s municipal code. Police said that most of the suspects are from Berkeley and Oakland, although one is from Sparks, Nevada.
One officer suffered injuries while conducting an arrest, while others were struck by paint. Six people received injuries serious enough to require medical attention by paramedics, and two had to be hospitalized for further treatment, police reported.

Harvey sets new rainfall record for the US

Harvey is now one for the history books.
The storm battering Houston broke the US record for rainfall from a tropical system Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service
A weather station southeast of Houston reported 49.32 inches of rain as of the morning — smashing the previous record of 48 inches set in 1978 in Medina, Texas, by Tropical Storm Amelia.
“It’s a big deal,” said meteorologist Marc Chenard of the weather service’s Weather Prediction Center.
More than a dozen other spots around Houston have recorded more than 40 inches of rain.

Hannity: Dems 'Feigning Moral Outrage' Over Trump's Sheriff Joe Arpaio Pardon

Sean Hannity said Democrats and the mainstream media are "feigning moral outrage" over President Trump's pardon of former Sheriff Joe Arpaio.
Arpaio, nicknamed "America's toughest sheriff," was convicted of a misdemeanor for defying a court order to stop detaining those he suspected of being in the country illegally. Critics accused him of providing abusive conditions in prisons and violating the constitutional rights of Latinos. The former sheriff, 85, was voted out of office last year.
"I thought he was treated unbelievably unfairly," Trump said.
The president was criticized for announcing the pardon in the shadow of Hurricane Harvey news. Commentators said the pardon will not get the attention it warrants but will still suck oxygen from the hurricane story just when the storm's victims need attention.
"It's all about him," CNN's Don Lemon said.
Hannity showed a montage of media clips slamming the pardon, saying the media exhibited a "massive double standard."
"If the media is so upset about Sheriff Arpaio, then they should be really outraged about what presidents Clinton and Obama did," Hannity said.
He mentioned Clinton's pardon of tax cheat and conspirer Marc Rich and Obama's pardon of conspirer Oscar Lopez-Rivera.
"We just can't forget what they did here," Hannity concluded.

Wide swaths of southeast Texas have been devastated by Tropical Storm Harvey, with some areas drowning in nearly 40 inches of water — and Lone Star State residents are bracing for another beating with up to 20 inches of rain.
“This is, if not the largest, it has to be categorized as one of the largest disasters America has ever faced,” Texas Gov. Greg Abbott declared at a press conference Monday afternoon.

Over at Townhall this morning, Kurt Schlichter casually advocates for anarchy. Republicans should get over all that rule of law business, he argues, because adhering to principle only ever helped the Left and hurt the Right. Liberals always fight dirty, so why can't conservatives?
It's a familiar and tempting argument to the conservative faithful who have long been let down by overpromising and underperforming politicians. It's also childish, whiny, and desperate—exactly what a six-year-old Thrasymachus might say on the school yard.
At issue is President Trump's pardon of Arizona's notorious ex-Sherriff Joe Arpaio. Schlichter says the pardon was necessary to "deny the enemy the head" of the convicted lawman, and he believes it was appropriate because "undoing injustice" is why the power exists. To do otherwise, to let the legal system work, would be tantamount to surrender.
No one, except maybe a dim witted senator from California, would deny the second point. At the same time, nobody familiar with the record of the disgraced lawman would consider pardoning Arpaio a conservative victory.

Violence erupted in Berkeley on Sunday when left-wing protesters surrounded and attacked at least five right-wing demonstrators.
Several thousand people had congregated for a “Rally Against Hate” in response to a planned anti-Marxist protest.
It was mostly peaceful until a group of more than 100 hooded, anti-fascist protesters busted through police lines, avoiding security checks by officers to take away possible weapons.
They began kicking and punching the right-wing demonstrators until they were stopped by the police. Officers reported at least 13 arrests.
On "America's Newsroom" today, Lisa Boothe said it's important that we marginalize "hate groups" of all kinds.
"So many people came together to denounce what we saw in Charlottesville with those neo-Nazi groups, those white supremacists," Boothe said. "Unfortunately, we're not seeing that same rebuke of groups like Antifa."

"Where is Congresswoman Barbara Lee, who represents the 13th District of California? Where is former Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who represents the nearby district of the 12th?" Boothe said. "If we're truly honest, if we truly want to stamp out hate in all of its forms, if we truly want to stamp out and push out violence in this country, it should be denounced in all of its forms."

NORTH Korea has fired an “unidentified ballistic missile” over Japan sparking warnings for its citizens to take precautions.
The Japanese government issued the warning following reports the secretive state fired a missile towards the region representing a “grave security threat” to the nation.
It was the second time in just four days that the North has launched test missiles in defiance of international sanctions.
The DPRK launched at least three missiles on Saturday.

During the Obama era up to 200,000 deportation cases were "administratively closed" without action, a move that left tens of thousands of illegal immigrants free to roam America, sometimes indefinitely, according to a new report.
When added to those cases still pending court action, it brings the backlog of cases to about 800,000, far more than previously known.

California border patrol agents made a startling discovery over the weekend when they found a crude tunnel that was being used to smuggle Chinese nationals and other illegal immigrants from Mexico into the U.S.
The tunnel, with a ladder inside, was spotted near San Diego’s Otay Mesa border crossing, authorities said. Border agents happened upon it at 1 a.m. Saturday after arresting a group of 30 people who had just been smuggled into the U.S. through the tunnel. The group included 23 Chinese nationals, including two women.
“While subterranean tunnels are not a new occurrence along the California-Mexico border, they are more commonly utilized by transnational criminal organizations to smuggle narcotics,” U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokeswoman Virginia Kice told KNSD-TV. “However, as this case demonstrates, law enforcement has also identified instances where such tunnels were used to facilitate human smuggling.”

Vatican officials warned Saturday that a pro-ISIS jihadist video and text messages threatened Pope Francis and marked Italy as the Islamic State’s next target.
Cardinal Pietro Parolin, secretary of state and second highest official of the Holy See, said that the latest video clearly marked Francis as a target, according to The Associated Press. The video depicted jihadists destroying various Catholic icons, a man ripping a poster of Francis in half, and a terrorist saying “We will have our vengeance …We will arrive in Rome,” according to Crux Now.

He insists he’s going to build a wall and make Mexico pay for it — eventually.
President Trump took to Twitter on Sunday morning to push his plan for a wall on the Mexican border, insisting that our southern neighbor will fund it one way or another.
“With Mexico being one of the highest crime Nations in the world, we must have THE WALL. Mexico will pay for it through reimbursement/other,” Trump tweeted.

CHANNEL Ten has been saved, with American broadcaster CBS Corporation inking a deal to buy the troubled network.
The receivers and voluntary administrators of Ten Network Holdings announced the deal on Monday morning, saying that it followed “a rigorous sales process”.
“Network Ten has played a significant role in Australia’s media landscape over many decades, and the sale of the business to CBS will allow the iconic broadcaster to move into a new chapter on a strong and stable footing,” said PPB Advisory Partner Christopher Hill, one of Ten’s receivers.

President Trump made his banner campaign promise to build a wall along the nation's entire 2,000-mile border with Mexico, suggesting that he would shut down the government if Congress doesn't fund the project.
While Trump has been criticized for the idea, and derided for his vow to make Mexico pay for it, he is far from the first modern-day leader to want to wall off his country. Since the Berlin Wall fell in 1989, dozens of countries have gone on a massive barrier-building campaign, with the number of border walls soaring from 15 then to about 70 now. Many countries have decided to build walls in the wake of the Arab Spring and the Syrian refugee crisis, while others are trying to counter terrorists or fear Russian invasions.

At least 16 Americans stationed at our Havana embassy have suffered hearing loss or brain damage from an unknown sonic weapon or acoustic surveillance device. At least one Canadian diplomat also was harmed.
But that’s just one small part of a great, grave problem: Around the world we’re experiencing the breakdown of diplomatic norms and inter-state behaviors that have kept the peace between major powers and blocs for seven decades.
First, the Cuban problem. The one thing the creaking Castro-designed government does well is spying, whether on its own people or on foreigners. Nothing much happens without the knowledge of Cuba’s KGB-schooled security services (the Cubans, in turn, have taught their tradecraft to Venezuelan and other police-state thugs).

Report: North Korea fired projectile into Sea of Japan
North Korea fired three short-range missiles, but two of them "failed in flight" while the third blew up shortly after launching, the U.S. military said Friday.
Seoul's Joint Chiefs of Staff, however, said that that the projectiles fired from the North's eastern coast flew about 155 miles. The JCS said South Korea and U.S. militaries were analyzing the launch and didn't immediately provide more details.
