The Syrian government and rebels are blaming each other for two bomb attacks that have killed about 30 people and wounded more than 200.

The bombings in Aleppo and two earlier ones in Damascus are not in the line of the overall uprising against president Bashar al Assad.

Correspondents in the region say this is why they suspect that activists are blaming the regime.

State television was quick to show graphic images pictures after the attack on a military base.

The government says it was the work of armed gangs, but activists blame security forces.

In Aleppo, Syrian army official Brigadier General Firas Abbas says the government will not give in to violence.

"These criminal acts carried out by these groups will not prevent us from continuing our efforts in order to crush terrorists in this city," he said.

The government bombardment of the besieged rebel stronghold of Homs is also continuing.

Resident Abu Ahmad says mosques, hospitals and houses are being targeted.

"They were throwing the people out of their homes and occupying their homes," he said.

More than 400 people are reported to have been killed in Homs in the past week.

United Nations secretary-general Ban Ki-moon says he firmly condemns the latest attacks, reiterating that all violence is unacceptable and must cease immediately.
