Aussie teen on drug charge in Phils
A 19-year-old Australian man could face life imprisonment after his arrest in the home of a Philippines governor whose son he was visiting.
An Australian man and three Britons have been ordered to face trial in the Philippines after they was allegedly found possessing a cannabis product.
The four men - including 19-year-old Australian man Arthur Murray Nash - were arrested by the Governor of the province of Ilocos Surin in his home in the capital Manila on January 13.
They have remained in custody since their arrest.
Filipino media reports the governor found the foreigners in his home after he claimed he could smell illegal drugs.
Hashish and pieces of rolling paper were reportedly confiscated from the accused when arrested, but they denied being in possession of the drug.
The Australian and the Britons allegedly tested positive for methamphetamine use in a subsequent drug check.
However, the tourists strongly deny the accusations and claim no drug paraphernalia were taken from them, only some tobacco and a cigarette.
They allege that they were in the bedroom of one of the governor's sons when they decided to leave. They say they were then frisked by the governor's bodyguard and subsequently turned over to police.
The men face life imprisonment if found guilty of the charges.
