Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani tore into President Barack Obama this weekend, calling for the president to resign over his failed economic policies, the terrorist attacks on the U.S. consulate in Libya, and for campaigning after Hurricane Sandy.

"He should resign!" Giuliani said at a campaign rally in Ohio for Mitt Romney. "He told us he would resign if he did this poorly! Do you remember that?"

"He lied!" Giuliani continued. "He has been a disaster. The worst president for our economy in our lifetime. He doesn't want a second term. He wants a second chance, because he screwed it up the first time."

“I don’t know what the heck he was doing in Nevada while people were still being discovered dead in New York. I sure wouldn’t be flitting around the Midwest,” Giuliani told CNN’s Piers Morgan after speaking at the campaign event.

“Maybe the first couple of days he was keeping his eye on the ball,” Giuliani said. “But we‘ve got gas lines that are a mile long, we’ve got bodies still being discovered and we’ve got a president playing campaigner-in-chief.”

Regarding the terror attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, which resulted in the death of four Americans, including ambassador Chris Stevens, Giuliani said that the 2008 GOP presidential nominee, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) would have handled the crisis quite differently.

“I can’t imagine a John McCain not sending the American military in at the earliest possible moment and not worrying about what Libya or Libyans might have thought,” Giuliani said. “This is what happens when you elect someone president of the United States who isn’t ready to lead, who wants to lead by following.”

On a conference call with reporters Saturday evening, Obama campaign press secretary Ben LaBolt dismissed Giuliani's calls for Obama's resignation as another "desperate" last-minute maneuver by the Romney campaign.

"That’s something you do in a banana republic four days before an election," he said.
