Apparently social justice vandals are decapitating Revolutionary War statues now

Tortured to death toward the end of the Revolutionary War, Col. William Crawford's memory has only recently been desecrated. A marble statue of the pioneer soldier guarding the entrance of the Ohio Crawford County Courthouse was decapitated Thursday night.
Suspects remain unidentified and the vandals, at large. But there are virtue signaling bounties on the heads of historical monuments today and there are only so many motives for attacking inanimate objects. Regardless, whoever beheaded Crawford didn't know him.

One wonders if the marble head hunter knew the history behind either or was simply whipped into such an ahistorical fervor that they wouldn't care. Giving way to passion rather than reason, that vandal brought back some of the savagery of the frontier. For destroying history, they deserve punishment.

As "catastrophic" Hurricane Harvey churns toward Texas, bringing with it a "life-threatening storm surge," major cities have devolved into ghost towns while authorities use their last hours before landfall to warn of the chaos to come. A tornado warning was issued for Galveston on Friday.
Flooding could reach heights of 6 to 12 feet above ground level along the Texas coast, according to the National Hurricane Center and nearly three feet of rain could fall in some regions. Harvey is now considered a Category 3 storm, according to the National Hurricane Center, as it prepares to make landfall late Friday or early Saturday.

Hurricane Harvey, on track to hit the Texas coast late Friday or early Saturday, has been upgraded to a Category 3 storm, with sustained winds close to 120 mph. Forecasters say the storm surge, coupled with tremendous rainfall, threatens to cause significant flooding along much of the state's coastline.
Harvey will be the first major hurricane to hit the U.S. in a dozen years when it makes landfall, likely north of Corpus Christi, Texas, according to the National Hurricane Center.
"Strongly consider evacuating," Gov. Greg Abbott told residents in the areas between Corpus Christi and Houston on Friday, according to member station KUT. "Put your life first and your property second."

Riddle me this: Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad, who’s broke, buys chemical weapons from North Korea’s Kim Jong Un, who needs the cash. So who foots the bill?
Follow the money and the answer will likely take you to the country that backs the Syrian strongman, has ties with the Nork tyrant — and is marching on with a grand plan to dominate the Mideast: Iran.
A confidential report, prepared by a panel of experts and scheduled to circulate Friday among members of the UN Security Council, details two recent incidents in which unidentified countries intercepted shipments of chemical armaments from North Korea to Syria.
Chemical weapons, remember, were at the heart of President Barack Obama’s unenforced Syrian “red line.” President Trump recently was so horrified by their use that he ordered a Tomahawk missile attack on Syrian targets.
The UN panel, as first reported by Reuters, doesn’t say when or where the chemical shipments were intercepted. The experts, monitoring North Korea’s sanctions, also didn’t specify who financed the deal.
But we can make an educated guess.

Many years ago, when I was a company commander, I had a conversation with an incredibly astute NCO on leadership. He told me in no uncertain terms that he would never want to be an officer because of how little control you have over your own career. As an officer, especially one in command, you are responsible for everything that happens under your command, even things you have no way to direct.
You are expected to wield enough influence over your unit that they are compelled to do the right thing, even when outside of visual contact. When that fails to happen, you, as the commander, end up paying the price for their failures. The cards you are dealt do not matter, only the way you play your hand. Because of this, command is one of the most stressful, and ultimately most rewarding, times in an officer's career.

A bipartisan proposal in the Senate would give border agents the technology to screen for chemicals at U.S. entry points in an effort to target fentanyl shipments.
Democratic Sen. Ed Markey of Massachusetts and Republican Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida proposed the INTERDICT Act earlier this year and are renewing their call for support after a report released Tuesday showed fentanyl deaths are rising. Data from the Massachusetts Department of Public Health reveals 81 percent of opioid-related deaths over the first quarter of 2017 involved fentanyl, a painkiller roughly 50 to 100 times more powerful than morphine, reports The Herald News.
Fentanyl was only involved in 19 percent of opioid-related deaths in the state as recently as 2014. Markey says the bill can help stem the massive tide of fentanyl flowing into the U.S. across the southern border, which is blamed as a primary driver of the current epidemic.

Court orders company to turn over metadata from anti-Trump website

A District of Columbia judge sided Thursday with the Justice Department in ordering web-hosting service DreamHost to turn over certain metadata from an anti-Trump website.
The site, disruptj20.org, helped organize political protests against the Trump administration including one on Inauguration Day which resulted in property damage and scores of arrests. The government’s subsequent push for information from the hosting service has touched off a constitutional battle between the federal government and the company.
Chief Judge Robert Morin, of the Superior Court of the District of Columbia, acknowledged Thursday in court that he was struggling to balance First Amendment rights with the valid concerns of law enforcement enforcing a search warrant based on probable cause. While the DOJ has backed off its initial, controversial request for IP addresses, the government still wants other personal information included in the metadata from DreamHost – a request Morin granted.
But the challenge is to focus on pertinent emails from people organizing violent protests without violating the privacy of ordinary website visitors. Morin tried to include safeguards to protect First Amendment rights, by forcing the government to separate records of innocent users from those that fall within the guidelines of the search warrant and to seal all those records.
Defense attorneys, though, warned of the “chilling effect” of even turning over the records, much less letting government investigators “rummage” through the emails.
“The individuals who are visiting, and becoming members of an advocacy group will still know that at some point, someday, there is going to be an FBI agent sitting there and looking at this information,” DreamHost defense attorney Raymond Aghaian said. “At the time this information is in the government’s possession and at the time that the FBI agent is reviewing that email ... that, in DreamHost’s view, has itself a chilling effect on the exercise of political expression and the right to association under the First Amendment.”
Defense attorneys added that, in their view, this case isn’t about protecting this personal information once it has been turned over, but rather preventing the information from being turned over at all.
DreamHost attorneys asked Morin, who was appointed by former President Bill Clinton, for a stay while they determine whether they want to appeal his ruling.
Morin told them to turn over all the metadata relevant to the search warrant for now, but ordered the government not to review the information until defense attorneys decide whether to appeal.

Almost a year of sympathetic coverage of her post-election life, the dog-walks and the selfies and the letters to Teen Vogue writers, has done nothing to curry favor with the public. As the season shifts and Clinton prepares for a legacy-cementing round of promotional interviews with sympathetic talk show hosts, the aforementioned 57 percent of us will remember why her triumph in the popular vote had absolutely nothing to do with popularity

Petition urging terror label for Antifa gets enough signatures for White House response

Antifa: What is the alt-left group?
A petition put up just days ago urging the Trump administration to label the left-wing Antifa a “terror group” has attracted well over the 100,000 signatures needed to merit a formal White House response.
The left-wing group has been the subject of intense scrutiny in recent days after President Trump controversially blamed “both sides” for the violence in Charlottesville, where a counter-protester at a white supremacist rally was killed in a car attack.
Trump’s criticism of violence on the “alt-left” was seen as a swipe at groups like Antifa, whose “anti-facist” members have been known to clash with groups ranging from Trump supporters to white supremacists and neo-Nazis. Trump was hammered for seeming to equate Charlottesville counter-protesters with neo-Nazis – but in the days since, Antifa’s tactics at other rallies have been the subject of numerous media reports.
The White House petition, posted by someone going only by the initials, “M.A.,” called for Antifa to be “formally” recognized as a terror group.
It states: “Terrorism is defined as ‘the use of violence and intimidation in pursuit of political aims’. This definition is the same definition used to declare ISIS and other groups, as terrorist organizations. AntiFa has earned this title due to its violent actions in multiple cities and their influence in the killings of multiple police officers throughout the United States. It is time for the pentagon to be consistent in its actions – and just as they rightfully declared ISIS a terror group, they must declare AntiFa a terror group – on the grounds of principle, integrity, morality, and safety.”
It was posted on the White House petition site, whose rules say any petition getting over 100,000 signatures in 30 days will be reviewed and get an “official response. “
As of late Monday, it had over 160,000 signatures, after having been posted Aug. 17.
Antifa leaders contend their aggressive tactics are used only to fight hatred and racism.
