Newt Gingrich: Trump vs. the NY Times, Washington Post – Liberal media needs to brace for a tremendous shock
OPINION - By Newt Gingrich | Fox News
Tragic decline': New York Times has become 'propaganda paper,' Newt Gingrich says
Former House speaker and Fox News contributor reacts to the New York Times aiming to 'reframe' America's founding to focus more on slavery.
The most amazing thing about Theodore White’s "The Making of the President 1972" is his explanation of the emerging hostility of the elite news media and its evolution into an adversarial anti-president propaganda system for left-wing values.
Everything we are used to seeing in what President Trump calls “Fake News” existed by 1972. The parallels are amazing – and are part of why I decided to spend so much time analyzing 1972 and 2020 as similar patterns of conflict.
The current New York Times overt shift from smearing President Trump with Russian collusion (which collapsed) to smearing President Trump with allegations of racism were all foreshadowed by the universal elite media hostility to President Nixon a half-century ago. The lockstep hostility of the Times, The Washington Post, and the left-wing TV systems were simply proof that in President Trump they had encountered a leader bent on changing their world and confronting their values.
NEWT GINGRICH: TRUMP AND THE FUTURE – WHAT HISTORY TELLS US ABOUT THE CURRENT PRESIDENT’S FATE
White combines his extraordinary analysis of the New York Times-Boston Globe-Washington Post system (and the three networks they shaped) with an explanation of the mutation from what he calls “the liberal idea” into “the liberal theology” – and the “movement” which grew out of it. (I will deal with the movement in my next column and its devastatingly destructive impact on cities in part four of this series.) This piece focuses on the adversarial news media and its impact on 1972 and on 2020.

____________
The Left wants to forget that when the American people weighed the values of President Nixon and the values of The New York Times, Nixon got 61 percent of the vote. The same would happen 12 years later when President Reagan won with 58 percent of the vote.
Do not be shocked if in the 2020 result, President Trump wins by a margin unimaginable today (no one in September 1971 or September 1983 would have predicted gigantic landslides against the Left).
Do not be shocked if the elite media are proved wrong again.

Check social media: A good step to better know who's coming into the US
by Washington Examiner
| August 30, 2019 02:00 PM
The United States ought to know who is coming into the country. The government ought to make sure that nobody is getting a visa, a green card, or citizenship through fraud.
The rule of law requires this much. So do self-determination and self-governance. A government of the people must allow the people to determine who gets to join the people. That process requires those in power to root out and exclude those who lie in their efforts to enter the U.S.
President Trump, like most people around the country — including former President Barack Obama — has consistently called for a stricter vetting of would-be-immigrants. On Friday, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services issued a common-sense policy to enhance its vetting ability. Specifically, USCIS will have slightly expanded power to check out the public social media accounts of immigrants seeking green cards, citizenship, or other immigration benefits.
While we expect this rule change will spark yet another freakout from the media and the Left, the real shock is that USCIS didn’t have this authority already.

China appears to be making its long-expected move to crush dissent in Hong Kong, with arrests of pro-democracy lawmakers and activists and a ban on a march planned for this weekend. The crackdown is a gamble that the public will be cowed, but it could ignite even more resentment and protests.
On Friday Hong Kong police under orders from chief executive Carrie Lam arrested Jeremy Tam, Au Nok-hin and Cheng Chung-tai. All three were elected to the city’s Legislative Council and are vocal critics of Beijing’s refusal to allow...

It is time to start reckoning with the consequences of James Comey.

How college students today go against everything universities stand for

Police stand guard after the confederate statue known as Silent Sam was toppled by protesters on campus at the University of North Carolina.

A mob loops a noose around a century-old statue, drags it down with triumphant whoops, then stomps and spits on the twisted metal. A screaming crowd surrounds a lone man and targets him for their abuse. Packs of grim enforcers stalk the night, armed with bats and clubs, intent on silencing all dissent.
Scenes from a bitter civil war? A preview of the next “Purge” film? Nope — just another day on a college campus.
America’s universities have become battlegrounds in recent years, gripped by a fanatical brand of left-wing identity politics that pushes aggressively policed speech codes, complex systems of trigger warnings and the near-total suppression of contrary thought.

Hurricane Dorian nears Category 5 with 150 mph winds, Trump warns it could be one of the 'strongest' storms in decades
By Melissa Leon | Fox News
Sen. Rick Scott on final preparations for Hurricane Dorian
Republican Senator Rick Scott weighs in as Florida braces for massive storm.
Hurricane Dorian is slowly making its way across the Caribbean as a dangerous Category 4 storm with 150 mph winds, with the Bahamas and southeastern coast of the U.S. in its sights, as President Trump warned it could be "one of the biggest and strongest" storms to hit in decades.
The storm has slowed to 8 mph and is moving west, with its’ “fury” aimed at the northwestern Bahamas, the National Hurricane Center said 2 p.m. ET Saturday. Dorian is about 205 miles east of the northwestern Bahamas and 385 miles east of West Palm Beach, Fla. Its winds increased Saturday, nearing a Category 5 classification, where winds are sustained over 156 mph.
Authorities evacuated most of the northern shore and low-lying islands in the Bahamas on Saturday, and remaining tourists were sent to shelters.

The storm could make landfall next week in Florida, Georgia or the Carolinas. The NHC has stressed that the storm’s possible path is uncertain and can change, but what is certain is that it will be a dangerous weather event.

China exacting ‘revenge’ on Australia with its treatment of Yang Hengjun, experts warn

RAW: There is no basis for Yang spying charges: foreign minister
China’s formal arrest of Australian citizen Yang Hengjun on espionage charges is a form of “revenge” and “hostage diplomacy”, experts have warned.
Dr Yang, a writer, pro-democracy activist and former Chinese diplomat, was detained in January and held for months without access to his lawyers or family. Yesterday we learned he had been charged with spying, an offence punishable by death in China.
RELATED: China formally arrests Australian Yang Hengjun
Foreign Minister Marise Payne reacted with a strongly worded statement that included references to “torture” and “inhumane treatment” — a clear escalation of language and perhaps a sign that Australia was done quietly lobbying China behind the scenes.
In response, China bluntly told Australia not to “interfere” in Dr Yang’s case.
“I would like to stress that China is a country with rule of law, and Australia should earnestly respect China’s judicial sovereignty and not interfere in China’s handling of the case in accordance with the law in any way,” said foreign ministry spokesman Geng Shuang.
For all that talk about the “rule of law”, however, this is not just a legal matter. It is nakedly political.

Chris Wallace: IG report is stain on 'Saint James' Comey's record

Chris Wallace says IG report is stain on James Comey's record
'Fox News Sunday' anchor Chris Wallace on fallout from the inspector general's scathing report on former FBI Director James Comey's handling of Trump memos.
Fired FBI Director James Comey’s record -- and potentially that of the whole department of the Federal Bureau of Investigations -- is clearly tarnished in the wake of the release of Inspector General Michael Horowitz’s report, host of “Fox News Sunday” Chris Wallace argued Friday.
Appearing on “America’s Newsroom” with anchor Sandra Smith just a day after the release of the report, Wallace pointed out, “I think to a certain degree we’re going to have to wait and see what comes out in the report that’s being done by a U.S. attorney who is looking at the entire investigation, and also the inspector general who is looking at the FISA warrant.”
“You know, those could be very damaging and very damaging not just to Comey but to the entire department,” he said.
The more than 80-page document from the IG said Comey violated FBI policies in his handling of memos documenting private conversations with President Trump. In addition, it stated that Comey broke rules by giving a memo containing unclassified information to a friend with instructions to leak the contents to The New York Times.

Ohio Republican Congressman Jim Jordan blasted fired FBI Director James Comey on Fox News Thursday night, saying he will in no way apologize to Mr. Comey and in fact, it is the now-disgraced Comey who owes America an apology for the past two years.
As Katie covered, the Department of Justice Inspector General released a blistering report Thursday morning "confirming fired FBI Director James Comey is a politically motivated liar and rampant leaker of official, confidential information. He broke all kinds of FBI rules, protocol and laws in his effort to take down President Trump and his administration through the launch of a Special Counsel investigation."
In short, the report said that Comey "failed to live up to this responsibility. By not safeguarding sensitive information obtained during the course of his FBI employment, and by using it to create public pressure for official action, Comey set a dangerous example for the over 35,000 current FBI employees—and the many thousands more former FBI employees—who similarly have access to or knowledge of non-public information," among many other negative descriptions of his questionable behavior.

James Comey’s road to disgrace
By Post Editorial Board
August 29, 2019 | 7:17pm
Former FBI Director James Comey
AP
Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz’s report Thursday slammed former FBI chief James Comey for abuses committed at the end of his career, after he’d been fired. But the ugly truth is that Comey started going wrong long before then.
This report focuses on one narrow topic: Comey’s abuses of memos he wrote on the job, recounting work-related conversations with President Trump.
The wrong wasn’t in writing them, or sharing them with a few top aides. It was in, 1) keeping his own copies of what were clearly official FBI records after he’d been fired, in blatant violation of FBI policy and his Employment Agreement. And in then, 2) improperly sharing them, including leaks to the press, to serve his personal interests.
Not the public interest, not even if you think the public was served by Comey’s claimed goal of forcing the appointment of a special prosecutor to take over the Russia investigation. As the IG notes, “Comey had several other lawful options available to him to advocate for the appointment of a Special Counsel.”

That left him continuing to cover for that conspiracy even after Trump took office — playing along with the “intelligence briefing” charade that led to the publication of the Steele Dossier’s most salacious lies about Trump as well as deceiving the president about whether he was the actual target of the entire investigation.
It’s clear Comey convinced himself he was completely justified and honorable, each misstep of the way. By the time he was fired, he’d lost all perspective — so that a man whose job had long involved tracking down illegal leakers opted to turn leaker himself.
If he weren’t still so incredibly full of himself, he’d be a fit object of pity.

Gregg Jarrett: James Comey owes America an apology – He abused his position as FBI Director
By Gregg Jarrett | Fox News
DOJ inspector general says Comey violated policies with memos documenting private conversations with Trump
The DOJ inspector general releases a report on former FBI Director James Comey's handling of the Russia probe; Catherine Herridge breaks down the details.
Only the audaciously arrogant fired FBI Director James Comey would demand the equivalent of an apology in the wake of a blistering denunciation of his actions by the Justice Department’s inspector general Thursday.
As usual, Comey has it backwards. Comey is the one who owes the American public a sincere apology for abusing his position as FBI director, violating government rules, concealing information from his former agency, leaking sensitive documents without authorization, mismarking memos without classification banners, improperly retaining records in an unsecured location, failing to surrender those records to the FBI, and assuming “carte blanche authority” he did not have.
All of this is contained in the IG’s report disparaging Comey’s behavior. Yet, the fired director has chosen to play the victim by tweeting, “I don’t need a public apology from those who defamed me, but a quick message with a ‘sorry we lied about you’ would be nice.”
JAMES COMEY VIOLATED FBI POLICIES WITH MEMOS ON TRUMP DISCUSSIONS, IG REPORT SAYS
Comey is not a casualty of lies. He is the richly-deserved recipient of an unprecedented condemnation meticulously spelled out in the report. He victimized himself through his repeated acts of wrongdoing. He is lucky he was not indicted. Yet.

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham is weighing in on the newly released Inspector General report about repeated misconduct by fired FBI Director James Comey.
"The Inspector General’s report is a stunning and unprecedented rebuke of a former Director of the FBI. This is the first of what I expect will be several more ugly and damning rebukes of senior DOJ and FBI officials regarding their actions and biases toward the Trump campaign of 2016," Graham released in a statement. “I appreciate the time and effort Mr. Horowitz and his team spent documenting the off-the-rails behavior of Mr. Comey regarding the leaking of law enforcement materials to the media. I also appreciate Mr. Horowitz for reinforcing the proper standards expected of senior DOJ and FBI officials. Well done Mr. Horowitz.”
Horowitz found Comey set a "dangerous precedent" by leaking confidential memos to the media in order to launch Robert Mueller's Special Counsel investigation against President Trump.

Jason Chaffetz: James Comey, the IG report and the lasting damage of the Obama-Biden agenda
OPINION - By Jason Chaffetz | Fox News
James Trusty on Comey IG report: He's too important to be bound by the rules he's well aware of
Former DOJ prosecutor James Trusty on what brought down former FBI Director James Comey.
Former FBI Director James Comey is the latest example of an Obama-Biden administration that was intent on using the levers of power for political and personal preservation.
Despite the false narrative that the biggest scandal of the Obama years was the president showing up in a tan suit, the truth is much more political.
Two reports point to the behavior by Comey. The Department of Justice (DOJ) Inspector General (IG) makes clear in the report that was released Thursday that Comey was careless, negligent, and intent on violating the letter and spirit of his duties and obligations. He is hardly the first Obama administration official to be guilty of such behavior.
TRUMP SLAMS 'THOROUGHLY DISGRACED' COMEY OVER INSPECTOR GENERAL FINDINGS
Many of us thought former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton should have been prosecuted for her actions. She selfishly put our country at risk by deliberately placing classified information in a non-secure setting and illegally hiding government records.

MSNBC's Lawrence O'Donnell apologizes for unverified Trump-Russia report: 'We are retracting the story'
By Joseph A. Wulfsohn | Fox News
Lawrence O'Donnell backtracks on Trump finance story
MSNBC retracts thinly-sourced story on President Trump's finances; reaction and analysis on 'The Five.'
MSNBC host Lawrence O'Donnell kicked off his show Wednesday night by apologizing for running an unverified report that directly tied President Trump's finances to Russia, which he retracted.
"Last night on this show, I discussed information that wasn't ready for reporting," O'Donnell said. "I repeated statements a single source told me about the president's finances and loan documents with Deutsche Bank saying 'if true'-- as I discussed the information-- was simply not good enough. I did not go through the rigorous verification and standards process here at MSNBC before repeating what I heard from my source. Had it gone through that process, I would not have been permitted to report it. I should not have said it on-air or post it on Twitter. I was wrong to do so."
WHITE HOUSE SLAMS MSNBC FOR UNVERIFIED REPORT, SAYS LEFT-WING OUTLETS HAVE 'WEAPONIZED' THE MEDIA
He went on to acknowledge the letter he and NBCUniversal received by Trump's legal counsel demanding a retraction and an apology for the "aforementioned false and defamatory" reporting and threatened to take legal action.

U.S. Prosecutors Probe Huawei on New Allegations of Technology Theft

U.S. prosecutors are looking into additional instances of alleged technology theft by Huawei Technologies Co., according to people familiar with the matter, potentially expanding beyond existing criminal cases against the Chinese telecommunications giant.
Among the situations being examined are episodes in which Huawei was accused of stealing intellectual property from multiple people and companies over several years, as well as how the company went about recruiting employees from competitors, these people said.
The inquiries, which include a subpoena for documents from Huawei by federal prosecutors from the Eastern District of New York in Brooklyn, suggest that the government is investigating aspects of Huawei’s business practices that weren’t covered in indictments of Huawei issued earlier this year.
The new inquiries overlap with findings from a Wall Street Journal investigation in May that documented numerous allegations of intellectual property theft against Huawei throughout its history, these people said. They include alleged theft of smartphone-camera technology from a Portuguese multimedia producer and Huawei’s practices of recruiting employees from rival companies, the people said.

James Comey is proof the ‘deep state’ is something to fear

For nearly three years now, those who promise to save us from the wicked clutches of President Donald Trump have bombarded America with lectures about the “rule of law.” Yet, over and over again, these self-styled champions of justice feel free to disregard the law whenever it suits them. The latest example is former FBI Director James Comey.
A new report by the Office of the Inspector General for the Justice Department found that Comey had written FBI memos, illicitly passed them on to a lawyer friend, who in turn leaked them to a friendly New York Times reporter who had been spreading the Russian conspiracy theory.
Why? Because Comey was interested in extracting revenge on the man who had fired him, Donald Trump.
Comey, the report found, had leaked “investigative information, obtained during the course of FBI employment, in order to achieve a personally desired outcome.”
That outcome, as Comey had admitted to Congress, was to “prompt the appointment of a special counsel” to investigate the president’s alleged conspiracy with the Russian government to win the 2016 election. By doing this, the DOJ inspector general, who is widely considered both meticulous and unbiased, found that Comey had “set a dangerous example” and “releas[ed] sensitive information” to “create public pressure for official action.”
It worked. And by manufacturing an investigation into the president — one that he didn’t have enough evidence to pursue in an official capacity — Comey had not only abused his power but plunged the nation into two years of hysterics about Russian interference.
In the end, Comey’s good friend Robert Mueller, despite his best efforts, couldn’t ferret out a single instance of criminal conspiracy.

Latest U.S. Concern Over Huawei Lies Deep Under The Sea

U.S. officials are seeking to block an undersea cable backed by Google, Facebook Inc. and a Chinese partner, in a national security review that could rewrite the rules of internet connectivity between the U.S. and China, according to people involved in the discussions.
The Justice Department, which leads a multiagency panel that reviews telecommunications matters, has signaled staunch opposition to the project because of concerns over its Chinese investor, Beijing-based Dr. Peng Telecom & Media Group Co., and the direct...

Bloomberg and Gates don’t horse around when it comes to their daughters

It’s the battle of the barns. Which billionaire’s daughter can build the best and biggest horse farm in northern Westchester?
Georgina Bloomberg arrived in North Salem first in 2012 when her father, possible presidential candidate Michael Bloomberg, paid $4.55 million for a 33-acre farm adjacent to 20 acres he already owned.
Neighbors say no expense was spared in turning the property into a first-class equestrian facility.
But then Jennifer Gates moved in last spring, when her parents, Bill and Melinda Gates, bought a 124-acre farm for $15.8 million as a graduation gift for completing her studies at Stanford.

HONG KONG—On June 16, a 24-year-old female graduate student with the family name Chen donned a black T-shirt, grabbed a surgical mask in case she needed to hide her face, and joined a massive march against further erosion of the city’s freedoms by China.
That much was standard procedure for many of the estimated two million people who took to the streets that day. What set her apart was her Chinese passport.

Jack Keane reacts to Esper press conference, China threat
Gen. Jack Keane claimed China is the U.S.'s top geopolitical threat, and he praised new Defense Secretary Mark Esper for echoing that sentiment.
Esper was correct Wednesday when he expressed concern over both the Chinese government and the regime of Kim Jong Un in North Korea, Keane said on "The Daily Briefing."
"I'm delighted that we're having press conferences again," he said.
"The Pentagon, just like the Department of State, has to answer to the American people. China is clearly our No. 1 threat out there. It's growing every single day."

In his remarks, Esper said that China is "engaging in a deliberate strategy to undermine the stability of the region," and that Beijing's values and actions are at odds with those of most other nations.
