George H.W. Bush, the 41st president of the United States, died Friday at age 94.
Former President George H.W. Bush, who spent a lifetime in public service and as the nation's leader scored a decisive victory over Saddam Hussein but battled a faltering economy, died Friday at age 94.
Family spokesman Jim McGrath said Bush died shortly after 10 p.m. Friday, about eight months after the death of his wife, Barbara Bush.
He is survived by five children, including former President George W. Bush and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush. A sixth child died in early childhood. The late former president also is survived by 14 grandchildren.

Corsi looks to file criminal complaint against Mueller
Jerome Corsi has instructed his attorneys to file a complaint with Acting AG Whitaker; reaction from National Security attorney Brad Moss and Fox News contributor Jason Chaffetz.
A federal appeals court announced Friday that it would hold a closed oral argument session on Dec. 14, to address a lawsuit apparently filed against Special Counsel Robert Mueller by an unidentified grand jury witness.
Much of the detail in the case remains under seal, and there has been intense speculation in the legal and political communities over the identity of the mystery appellant.
Speculation in some media was that President Trump himself had filed the lawsuit back in August, but his attorney denied it.
The suit could be related to a possible subpoena for the witness to appear before the federal grand jury empaneled by Mueller, who is looking into a range of issues, including the extent of Russia interference in the 2016 election.

* The FBI raided the home of a whistleblower who was in possession of documents regarding the Clinton Foundation and Uranium One, according to the whistleblower’s lawyer, Michael Socarras.
* The whistleblower, Dennis Nathan Cain, had turned the documents over to the Department of Justice’s inspector general and both the House and Senate Intelligence committees, according to the lawyer.
* The FBI rummaged through Cain’s home for six hours, even after the whistleblower handed over the documents, according to Socarras.
FBI agents raided the home of a recognized Department of Justice whistleblower who privately delivered documents pertaining to the Clinton Foundation and Uranium One to a government watchdog, according to the whistleblower’s attorney.
The Justice Department’s inspector general was informed that the documents show that federal officials failed to investigate potential criminal activity regarding former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, the Clinton Foundation and Rosatom, the Russian company that purchased Uranium One, a document reviewed by The Daily Caller News Foundation alleges.

Mattis: Military May Stay at the Border Past December

With the current deployment of active-duty U.S. military members to the U.S.-Mexico border scheduled to end in December, Secretary of Defense James Mattis hinted the deployment for some of the troops may be extended.
Since the Department of Defense has been in a supporting role to the Department of Homeland Security, Mattis said they are ready to help their partners if needed.
“We'll react to the Department of Homeland Security if they ask for it,” he told reporters. “Right now we're...we're working with them on the staffs. It comes down to logistics issues right now primarily...how many miles of wire do they need, how much they defined.”
Mattis said the reinforcing of the ports of entries “are pretty much, I think, done. There's a little on the flanks of a couple of them we're still working on. So we'll have to see if the — if the request extends further.”

Back-to-back earthquakes struck Alaska near Anchorage on Friday, damaging buildings, knocking out power and triggering tsunami warnings as residents ran into the streets, according to reports.
The US Geological Survey said the first and more powerful temblor – measuring a 7.0 magnitude — was centered about 7 miles north of Anchorage, the state’s largest city, with a population of about 300,000.
The epicenter was just north of Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, the Anchorage Daily News reported.

Mark Penn: The Mueller investigation has come up empty on Russia -- You won’t believe what's coming next

The pattern and purpose of Mueller’s investigation and the endgame is becoming clear, and yes, it’s clearly get the president at all costs. The team Mueller hired really foretold the story — Andrew Weissmann as the stop-at-nothing pit bull and a group of Democratic-leaning lawyers, including some who have represented the Clintons, had the obstruction of justice charge ready to go on day one.
Trump’s first team of lawyers with their “don’t worry and cooperate” strategy set the president back, and let the whole thing spiral out of control.
The investigation, I believe, has come up truly empty on its central charge related to the president — collusion with the Russian government. They are now trying to find someone, anyone who had any contact with Julian Assange with the aim of calling that collusion-lite.
But mostly what Mueller’s team is doing is bludgeoning witnesses on unrelated charges to piece together a case against the president. They are shaping that case through the indictments -- and threats of indictments -- that are being used to get guilty pleas to make the president seem like an obstructor or co-conspirator. They are literally creating the crimes.

Hospital urged to drop Zuckerberg name after Facebook controversies

A San Francisco politician is trying to get Mark Zuckerberg’s name removed from a local hospital, citing Facebook’s recent slew of scandals.
In 2015, after Zuckerberg and his wife, Priscilla Chan, donated $75 million, San Francisco General Hospital rebranded itself the Priscilla Chan and Mark Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center.
But this week, San Francisco supervisor Aaron Peskin asked the city to “outline the procedure for the removal of the Zuckerberg name” from the facility, according to a report in Business Insider.

Report: California-Based Communist Group Encouraging Migrants to ‘Remove’ Trump

The caravan of migrants that traveled from Honduras to Mexico includes foreign nationals pledging to abolish the U.S. immigration authorities, openly discussing their intent to illegally enter the U.S., and reading communist literature about overthrowing President Donald Trump, according to an in-depth report by journalists on the ground in Tijuana for the Epoch Times.
It said a Los Angeles-based group called Al Otro Lado (“To the other side”) is guiding migrants and its litigation director, Erika Pinheiro, is on the scene telling the migrants how to make sure they don’t just get into the U.S., but get as many benefits from its government as possible.
But she advised that criminals and previous deportees in the group can still get a different status, called “withholding of removal status,” in which “you won’t be deported but it doesn’t have many benefits.”

California Democratic Party chairman resigns
Eric Bauman is resigning following sexual misconduct allegations, just hours after Governor-elect Gavin Newsom called for him to step aside.
California Democratic Party Chairman Eric Bauman resigned on Thursday amid multiple claims of sexual misconduct.
Bauman, who allegedly made sexually explicit comments while at work and sometimes touched staffers without permission, said it was “in everyone’s best interest” for him to step down from his post.
“I have made the realization that in order for those to whom I may have caused pain and who need to heal, for my own health, and in the best interest of the party that I love and to which I have dedicated myself for more than 25 years, it is in everyone’s best interest for me to resign my position as chair of the California Democratic Party,” Bauman said in a statement provided to The Los Angeles Times.

German authorities raided Deutsche Bank AG offices Thursday as part of an investigation into whether the firm helped clients launder money through tax havens. One of the employees suspected of involvement works in the division responsible for fighting financial crime, according to people familiar with the matter.
Around 170 police officers and other officials seized documents during searches through six different properties Thursday, including one employee’s home, according to authorities.

Facebook said last week that it is creating an independent body to determine what should be removed from its Web site.
May I suggest that anything that shows or discusses abuse of children should be removed? Facebook has been lax about pedophilia and other issues that make the site unsafe for kids.
Sure, there is a lot of other stuff that Facebook should banish. But adults can judge whether political content and the like are dangerous and wrong.

The media got it all wrong on the new US climate report

Activists tend to exaggerate the impacts of climate change while underestimating the costs of tackling it. The reception to the new US climate assessment was instructive. The report largely attempts to remain soberly scientific, and follows the even more careful global report by the United Nations’ climate-science panel, known as the IPCC.
Sadly, accurate science doesn’t make for good television; predicting the end of times does.
Among many others, widely quoted climate scientist Michael Mann talked up the report to NPR and CNN, saying its predictions are already borne out in today’s “unprecedented weather extremes.”
Actually, the assessment, and science, tell a different story. “Drought statistics over the entire contiguous US have declined,” the report finds, reminding us that “the Dust Bowl era of the 1930s remains the benchmark drought and extreme heat event.”

Dodd-Frank rewrote the rules and Obama’s marquee financial regulation actually helped the big banks. This is because financial giants can easily comply with the new standards while their smaller competitors struggle. And so Obama watched as community banks, institutions that certainly didn’t create the financial crisis, were inevitably crushed under the demanding weight of his regulators.
According to the National Credit Union Administration, 1,250 federally insured credit unions shut their doors between 2010 and 2015, 17 percent of the industry. That meant billions in business for the institutions that could survive Dodd-Frank, and that means a grateful Wall Street.
For all of this, Wall Street should at least say thanks. The next time they cut Obama a check for a couple hundred thousand dollars for a brief speech, they ought to let the former president know how much his presidency meant to them.

Jam-packed agenda awaits lawmakers' return to Washington
President Trump urges lawmakers to pass criminal justice reform, secure border wall funding before new Congress takes office.
America’s criminal justice system is badly broken, and the next few weeks will determine the fate of efforts to fix it.
We should not continue pouring billions of dollars into a system that releases offenders who are more dangerous than when they entered prison, leaves victims’ needs unmet, and causes our communities to live in fear of crime.
But unless the U.S. Senate passes the First Step Act before the end of the year, the terrible status quo in our federal criminal justice system will continue.
Here are a few ways the current federal system fails us:
The first priority of government is to keep our people safe.
Violent, dangerous criminals belong in prison, and the cost of incarcerating them is money well spent. But we are overusing imprisonment. More than half of all people in federal prisons for drug offenses have no violent history, and more than one-quarter have no prior criminal history. Prisons are for people we are afraid of, but we are locking up a lot of people because we’re just mad at them.
Roughly half of people released from prison in the United States re-offend.

The economics of America's illegal immigration crisis
'The Next Revolution' panel weighs in amid chaos at the southern border over the migrant caravan.
It was deeply troubling to see video of U.S. Border Patrol agents firing tear gas Sunday into a crowd of migrants – including women and children – across the border in Mexico in order to prevent them from breaking through the border fence south of San Diego.
Even more troubling, an order signed last week by White House Chief of Staff John Kelly allows members of the military who the president sent to the border to “perform those military protective activities that the Secretary of Defense determines are reasonably necessary” to protect Border Patrol agents, including “a show or use of force (including lethal force, where necessary), crowd control, temporary detention and cursory search.”
Do we really want to see American troops on the border engaging in combat with civilians? Do we really want to see migrants shot and possibly even killed?
This is deeply troubling not because I am for open borders, nor because I am against border security, nor because the notion of protecting the border from caravans of Central American migrants is inherently wrong.

Rudy Giuliani, Donald Trump's personal lawyer, has accused special counsel Robert Mueller's team of being so driven by "their zeal to get the president" that they are plotting to push witnesses in the Russia investigation to lie.
Former New York City Mayor Giuliani told the Washington Examiner that allegations that former Trump campaign manager met Wikileaks founder Julian Assange in his refuge inside the Ecuadorian embassy in London was “all part of a plan to pressure Manafort to lie.”
He linked the Manafort claims, outlined in a report in The Guardian, to comments by controversial right-wing author Jerome Corsi that he recently testified to a Mueller grand jury that Roger Stone — his friend and a longtime Trump ally — asked him to contact Assange about releasing emails stolen from Hillary Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta.
“Is it conceivable that [Manafort] and Jerome Corsi, who is saying Mueller’s people are pressuring him to lie, are telling the truth and the special counsel in their zeal to get the president may be going too far,” Giuliani said.

House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA) spoke to reporters Tuesday about the GOP's attempts to fund President Trump’s proposed $5 billion for a border wall as part of the year-end spending deal, avoiding a partial government shutdown on December 7th.
Following a meeting between the president and GOP leadership, he said that the president is sticking to his $5 billion demand for border wall funding.
He said the crisis at the border is something “all Americans should be concerned about regardless of how you feel about immigration policy because at the end of the day we still have a legal way to come into this country and there are millions of people that are waiting and playing by the rules to do it the right way.”
The third-ranking House Republican also called for GOP lawmakers to get behind the president’s latest request for wall funding.
"The president has been very clear that he needs $5 billion to properly secure the border," he said. "We need to be there for him and make sure this gets signed."

Don’t blame Border Patrol for clashing with caravan migrants

Blame for Sunday’s violence at the Mexican border should fall squarely on those who misled the caravan migrants into thinking they’d be waved right in.
Nearly 1,000 tried to “violently” breach the San Ysidro crossing, Border Patrol chief Carla Provost said. After blowing past Mexican riot police, some threw rocks and bottles, hitting US agents. Then the crowd pushed through the fencing; at least 69 migrants were nabbed on US soil.
Agents responded with tear gas and temporarily closed the crossing. They had little choice: As Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen noted, the moves were meant “to ensure public safety” as migrants tried “to enter the US illegally” and “harm [Customs and Border Patrol] personnel.”
President Trump’s threat to “close the Border permanently” is over the top, like so much of his commentary on the caravan. But these migrants were never going to just walk into the country; that would set off a rush for entry from all over the world.

It’s all complicated by the mess of US immigration law (and US border enforcement), and by ideologues happy to manipulate naive, poor people in order to score debating points in Washington.
The only folks you shouldn’t blame are the Border Patrol agents simply trying their best to do their job of protecting the nation.

Newt Gingrich: The war on the border is real
The former House speaker says President Trump is doing the right thing to secure the southern border.
The struggle along America’s southern border is a war.
It is largely a psychological war. Foreigners are taunting the American government and trying to get the news media to focus on American law enforcement rather than the people trying to break into our country.
This struggle is historic. It is the tip of a wave of lawbreaking foreigners who would love to move into the United States and dictate to law-abiding Americans the terms under which the lawbreakers will be accepted, supported and subsidized.
Ultimately, this war is a function of willpower and cleverness.
The foreign invaders have a huge advantage. Most of the American news media and the American left are on their side.
Most of the news media do not want to explore the aggressiveness – and in some cases criminality – of those seeking to come into the United States illegally. Nor do most news organizations want to report on the total number of people who will illegally enter the United States over the next few years if the American border control system collapses.

The attack on our southern border by a mob attempting to enter our country illegally, in part to force us to change our laws and policies, is nothing short of an invasion. Congressional inattention and inaction, together with activist judges and a lack of preparation by the Secretary of Homeland Security and the Border Patrol Commissioner, has created a perfect storm. The president is left with few options other than to close our border and negotiate with Mexico for help in stemming the tide.
I urge House leaders and the United States Congress to immediately pass a bill that would supply funds for a border wall—this week. Kicking the can down the road is no longer an option. Giving mere lip service to a Republican campaign promise, to build a wall and secure our border, has brought Congress under even more disapprobation than usual.
I suspect that we won’t see my bill, the Fund and Complete the Border Wall Act (H.R.6657), or even the majority leader’s bill, the Build the Wall, Enforce the Law Act (H.R.7059), not to mention any of the other stand-alone bills that fund a wall, brought to the floor for a straight up vote. We will likely see wall funding stuck in the middle of some other bill. It will get weighed down by a whole host of other immigration policy ideas that people will claim we must have.
I alert my colleagues to the crisis at the border. Let’s do a clean, simple wall funding bill. It’s a promise the House can keep.
No more excuses from Congress. Don’t tell me to be a team player after a bill that will fund a wall has been larded up with additional asks from people you have to buy off for them to be “team players.” Don’t dress up the idea and stick it in a “must have” bill that we really don’t need. And, most of all, don’t tell me that we can’t do a clean and simple build-the-wall bill because the Senate won’t pass it. We are in the House. We only control the House. So, the House ought to pass the best bill we can.
If Republicans believe we can keep our promise to the American people to secure our border and build a wall after the Democrats take over in January, then we are inordinately optimistic. That means the time is now to pass simple and clean legislation that will fund and build a wall.
Failure to act will perpetuate the surge of illegal aliens we have seen this past year. People respond to incentives and those who desire to enter the United States illegally are no different. Our activist judges who prevent the president from protecting our border have provided opportunities for people to hurry across our border.

ICE worked with 26 other countries to take down 1.2 million websites last year. Here's why

The U.S. government has taken down more than 1 million website domains it says were being used to sell counterfeit items online, according to Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
The federal immigration agency said Monday it worked with 26 countries on the yearlong effort, dubbed Operation in Our Sites.
A total of 1.21 million domains were shut down and 33,600 were "criminally seized" as a result of investigations between ICE, Europol, Interpol, and law enforcement from more than two dozen other countries, according to a news release.
The joint effort also axed 2.2 million links that led people on social media and third-party sites to the bogus domains.

Newly released tax documents showing a plunge in Clinton Foundation donations after Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential election defeat have fueled long-standing Republican allegations of possible “pay-to-play” transactions at the organization, amid a Justice Department probe covering foundation issues.
The tax filings, which were made public this month, show the Clinton Foundation pulled in $62.9 million in 2016, but only $26.6 million the following year, representing a nearly 58 percent drop. Tax documents for 2018 are not yet available.
A spokesman for the foundation told The New York Post, which first reported the figures, that they “anticipated a decline” in 2017 and said it was “largely attributable to the absence of sponsorship and membership contributions for CGI [Clinton Global Initiative].”
