US presidential election 2016: email scandal could derail Hillary Clinton

Hillary Clinton’s campaign for the White House has suffered a blow after an official report into her use of emails as secretary of state concluded that she breached government rules.

The state department’s inspector general found that she had not used an official email account and failed to consult about her use of a private server to send messages which could have been vulnerable to hacking or interception.

This is now how the nightmare scenario for the Democrats unfolds: Clinton wins the Californian primary comfortably next month, shaking off the insistent Bernie Sanders.

The victory allows her to go into July’s convention with the wind in her sails, adopting the air of a winner after a fierce primary contest.
