What in the World?! Patel Reveals Jack Smith's Arctic Frost Team Made Themselves a Bizarro Garish Trophy

Sometimes the news is plain weird; that’s just a fact.

We’ve been describing how the House Judiciary Committee on Thursday has been exposing the excesses of former Special Counsel Jack Smith, forcing him to spin like a top to explain his quixotic quest to bring down Donald Trump with his endless, multi-million dollar Arctic Frost election interference probe.

The investigation and the subsequent prosecution ended when Trump won the presidency.

But I couldn’t have guessed that some of the officials involved would be so juvenile and craven as to make themselves a trophy for their failed efforts. According to FBI Director Kash Patel, however, that’s exactly what they did:

Fox News contributor Byron York on Wednesday broke down what he described as a familiar Trump negotiating playbook, saying the president deliberately opened with an outsized demand about Greenland to seize leverage and shape the entire conversation.

Trump has insisted the United States must take control of Greenland for national security reasons and has threatened sweeping tariffs on European countries to pressure them into surrendering full authority over the island. During a panel discussion on “Special Report with Bret Baier,” York laid out what he described as a textbook example of President Donald Trump’s negotiating style.

“This was kind of classic Trump, wasn’t it? Trump wants something, and then he asks for 10 times that. The other side flips out, and they go back and forth and go back and forth. It becomes a huge news story,” York told host Bret Baier. 

York said that the endgame was predictable, with the other side eventually offering a deal close to what Trump sought at the outset.

“Finally, they make an offer. He agrees to it, and it’s kind of what they could have gotten in the first place,” York said.

The House Oversight Committee passed bipartisan resolutions Wednesday to hold the Clintons in contempt over subpoena noncompliance in the Jeffrey Epstein probe.

OPINION:

A larger-than-life president showed up at the World Economic Forum on Wednesday. Donald Trump had one demand for the World Economic Forum at Davos: Show some gratitude. The planet’s most self-important people are not accustomed to being bossed around.

“The United States is keeping the whole world afloat,” said Mr. Trump, speaking mostly off the cuff as he does at campaign rallies.

The U.S. commander in chief rattled off examples of the world mooching off American success. For instance, we helped liberate Europe from the Nazis and Imperial Japan. We subsidize the defense of the West. We bankroll the development of lifesaving drugs. For that, we get nothing in return.

How about we get Greenland as a small token of Europe’s appreciation?

You know the White House is serious about this territorial acquisition because Scott Bessent served as the president’s advance man. The Treasury secretary spent Tuesday shooting down nonsensical narratives about Mr. Trump’s pursuit to invade Greenland in peevish retribution for being snubbed by the Norwegian Nobel Committee.

For some strange reason, Denmark owns Greenland. Neighboring Norway is also responsible for selecting Nobel Committee members, and those members awarded the Peace Prize to someone who doesn’t live at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. Democrats attempted to link these unrelated issues into an attack on the Republican president, which they can do because they are historically illiterate.

Democrats were the first to covet Greenland, beginning with Andrew Johnson’s exploration of the idea in 1868. Franklin D. Roosevelt’s secretary of state once wrote, “Greenland is within the area embraced by the Monroe Doctrine … and its defense against attack by a non-American power is plainly essential to the preservation of the peace and security of the American continent.”

Mr. Bessent cited the Tuesday vote in the British House of Commons that handed over control of the Chagos Islands to the tiny island nation of Mauritius, which is in Beijing’s pocket, as an example of the peril. Those islands are home to Diego Garcia, a critical refueling and repair stop for U.S. ships and planes transiting the Indian Ocean. If you can’t trust Europeans to safeguard a tiny group of islands, then you can’t trust them to protect a big one, such as Greenland.

Plutocrats go to Switzerland for the five-star accommodations and legendary Davos after-parties, not to be told their foreign policies are reckless. They don’t appreciate when their worldview is threatened. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney is among those displeased at being asked to contribute more to his nation’s security.

“We knew that the story about the rules-based order was partially false. … You cannot live within the lie of mutual benefit through integration when integration becomes the source of your subordination,” he groused.

In the past, Davos was dominated by tedious lectures about “climate justice.” Not anymore. Since Mr. Trump closed the spigot of American funding for green projects, artificial intelligence has emerged as the topic of the day. The jet set also realizes AI’s thirst for electricity won’t be satisfied by windmills and solar panels.

Mr. Trump mocked the countries still clinging to clean energy delusions. “China is very smart. They make [windmills]. They sell them for a fortune. They sell them to the stupid people that buy them, but they don’t use them themselves. They put up a couple of big wind farms, but they don’t use them,” he said.

It’s up to Europeans to heed these words and stop being stupid.

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said on Jan. 21 at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, that U.S. President Donald Trump was right about security in the Arctic.

“When it comes to the Arctic, I think President Trump is right. Other leaders in NATO are right. We need to defend the Arctic,” the former Dutch prime minister said. “We know that the sea lanes are opening up.”

Rutte said that China and Russia were becoming increasingly active in the Arctic Circle, and acknowledged that this posed a problem for the alliance.

“There are eight countries bordering on the Arctic. Seven are members of NATO. That’s Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Iceland, Canada, and the U.S.,” Rutte said.

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) said on Jan. 21 that he would support articles of impeachment against some federal judges after congressional Republicans floated the prospect last year.

During a press conference, a reporter asked Johnson about Senate Republicans suggesting that the House bring articles of impeachment against judges. Multiple Republicans have signaled they want to impeach two U.S. district judges, James Boasberg and Deborah Boardman.

“I’m for it,” Johnson said during the Wednesday news conference alongside other Republican House members. “Judge Boasberg is one who’s been mentioned.”

Rep. James Comer, R-Ky., told Newsmax on Wednesday that he is confident the Department of Justice will prosecute former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton if the full House votes to hold them in contempt of Congress for ignoring subpoenas related to the committee’s investigation into Jeffrey Epstein.

Comer, chair of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, told "Finnerty" that the committee’s bipartisan vote earlier in the day marked a major step forward in holding the Clintons accountable after months of refusing to testify.

"So, the committee voted overwhelmingly in a bipartisan fashion to hold both Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton in contempt," Comer said.

The committee voted to advance contempt resolutions after the Clintons declined to comply with subpoenas seeking testimony about their ties to Epstein, the late convicted sex offender, and his associate, Ghislaine Maxwell.

Comer noted that nine Democrats joined Republicans in supporting the contempt vote.

U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) on Jan. 20 told the UK Parliament in London that the United States is focused on countering security threats from China and Russia, especially in strategic areas such as the Arctic.

Johnson delivered his remarks during a visit to England’s capital to mark the 250th anniversary of U.S. independence, becoming the first U.S. House speaker to address Parliament.

His visit to London came amid growing geopolitical tensions over the U.S. bid to acquire Greenland for national security reasons.

In his address, Johnson said he spoke to U.S. President Donald Trump at length the day before and told the president that his mission in the UK was to help “calm the waters.”

The House Oversight Committee isn't playing around when it comes to the question of holding former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in contempt of Congress for failing to show up to be questioned in the Jeffrey Epstein matter.

They didn't show up for their depositions and released a letter that was pretty hilarious, acting like they were fighting the evil Trump administration by doing so, as opposed to refusing to sit down and be grilled about what they know.

Their attorneys said they would try to fight the subpoenas.

Then came the word from the House Oversight Chair James Comer that Bill Clinton was trying to strike a bargain

Comer said in a statement that the Clintons’ attorneys made an offer to have former President Clinton testify before only Comer and ranking member Robert Garcia (D-Calif.) in New York — with just two staff members each, no other committee members, and no official transcript.

Comer rejected that deal.

If they know nothing, why not come before the Committee and say that? Why would they not want the full Committee, and why would they not want a transcript? Are there questions they don't want to answer, and do they not want their answers recorded for posterity so they can't be nailed on them?

Contemptible Clintons: Comer Rejects Latest Ridiculous Offer, Vows to Bring Tight-Lipped Duo to Account


But now the House is one step further along to holding them in contempt.

A House committee voted on a bipartisan basis Wednesday to hold Bill and Hillary Clinton in contempt of Congress.

The House Oversight Committee voted for the former president to face a potential criminal misdemeanor for refusing to comply with a subpoena to testify about his relationship with deceased sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein was 34-8.

Another vote for his wife, the former first lady and secretary of state, failing to testify was 28-15.

The vote to issue the subpoenas to begin with had also been bipartisan. Neither of them showed up for their last scheduled depositions in January, after months of back-and-forth delay.

That's a big thing that Democrats went along with the Committee vote. You even had the ranking member, Democratic Rep. Robert Garcia (CA-42), agree that the subpoenas were lawful.

As much of Europe pushes back against President Donald Trump’s bid to acquire Greenland, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte is taking a markedly different stance, telling Europe that it should “be happy” Trump is in charge.

Speaking Wednesday at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Rutte credited Trump with forcing major European powers — including France, Italy, and Spain — to finally step up their defense commitments. Without Trump’s pressure, Rutte said, these countries would never have agreed to spend 2% of their gross domestic product on defense.

“I’m not popular with you now because I’m defending Donald Trump, but I really believe you can be happy that he is there because he has forced us in Europe to step up, to face the consequences that we have to take care of more of our own defense,” Rutte said at a panel discussion titled “Can Europe defend itself?” at the World Economic Forum, according to Politico. A Japanese court sentenced a man who admitted assassinating former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to life imprisonment, according to NHK public television.

Tetsuya Yamagami, 45, earlier pleaded guilty to killing Abe in July 2022 during his election campaign speech in the western city of Nara.

The Nara District Court confirmed the verdict and sentenced Yamagami to life in prison, as prosecutors requested.

U.S. President Donald Trump has said that the United States must purchase, annex, or, if necessary, militarily seize Greenland “for the purpose of national security” before Russian or Chinese interests are entrenched in the area.

The autonomous Danish territory straddles key sea lanes, including trans-Arctic shipping corridors, and is rich in critical minerals and rare earths.

Trump has said that “whether they like it or not,” Greenland will soon belong to the United States. Possible scenarios include Greenland becoming a U.S. territory, such as the Virgin Islands, or a freely associated state in a compact with the United States.

Elon Musk injected $10 million to boost businessman Nate Morris’s bid to replace retiring Republican Kentucky Sen. Mitch McConnell, marking his largest contribution to a Senate candidate, according to Axios.

Musk made his $10 million contribution to pro-Morris Fight for Kentucky super PAC, which backs Morris, last week, Axios reported. This follows his support for President Donald Trump in the 2024 election. The tech billionaire also has a close relationship with Vice President JD Vance.

The contribution lands as Morris trails former Republican Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron and Rep. Andy Barr in a recent GOP primary survey obtained by the Daily Caller. It showed Cameron leading the race at 40% support and with an edge among men and women across regardless of age. The Cameron-aligned super PAC Kentucky First Action commissioned the pol. A Chinese intelligence official’s autobiography details decades of efforts to cultivate ties with American officials, culminating in an alleged plot with a three-star U.S. general to annex strategic territory for Beijing, a Daily Caller News Foundation investigation discovered.

Chinese-American businessman Eugene Ji, who owns two golf courses flanking Louisiana’s Barksdale Air Force Base, developed a years-long professional and personal relationship with retired Army Lt. Gen. Russel Honoré, which allegedly included expensive gifts and meetings with high-ranking Chinese government officials, according to DCNF translations of Chinese government announcements and Ji’s 2014 Chinese language autobiography “New Circle.” Among other concerning episodes, the autobiography claims the pair organized an event to bring Chinese military officers to a U.S. nuclear base and also repeatedly propositioned Chinese political insiders with a half a billion dollar plan to seize Japan’s Senkaku Islands for China through weaponized migration, which the general denies.

“When I asked his opinion on the matter of the [Senkaku Islands], the general said those few small islands are of course Chinese territory — why keep talking without acting? No need to consult Japan. If pigs can be raised on the islands, set up a pig farm. If tourism is possible, build dozens of houses. Sovereignty is China’s. Welcome tourists from around the world. Japanese can go too, just get a visa at the Chinese embassy in Japan, so what’s the hang-up?” Ji wrote, according to a DCNF translation of the autobiography. “Do your friends think the price is too high?”

Honoré, who retired in 2008, allegedly served as the “U.S. affairs advisor” for an organization founded by Ji called the G2 Club, which has offices in the U.S. and China, and is comprised of business leaders and government officials from both nations, according to DCNF translations of “New Circle.”

Biological males in women’s sports have become a losing issue. But some ideological celebs and out-of-touch athletes still haven’t gotten the message.

A new campaign from the ACLU defending transgender athletes‘ participation in the sports category of their choice features actors Elliot Page and Naomi Watts — two elites with nothing to lose as they sacrifice the athletic opportunities of women younger than themselves. 

The 30-second ad, which will air during the Unrivaled women’s basketball series, also features soccer star Megan Rapinoe and her girlfriend and WNBA star Sue Bird — retired female athletes so blinded by ideology that they’re willing to deprive the next generation of the fair shot they enjoyed as women before trans athletes were a major concern.

These activists — particularly the former athletes — should know better. But trans ideology has hijacked common sense.

It's not every day that I find myself sitting down with the secretary of the treasury at his historic office in Washington.

This past Thursday, I visited with Secretary Scott Bessent, one of the most closely watched, talked-about, and popular members of President Donald Trump's Cabinet.

Secretary Bessent's growing popularity is no accident.

The economic results under the new Trump administration have been nothing short of remarkable.

According to data discussed during our meeting, economic growth has accelerated sharply, with gross domestic product growth in the most recent quarter at 4.3%, a dramatic 79% increase of the growth rate over Joe Biden's final full quarter as president.

This growth represents one of the fastest growth rates in years.

For sure, growth like that doesn't happen by chance.

What is a more glaring sign of budding fascism in the United States: Federal immigration authorities enforcing immigration laws passed by Congress, or mobs of activists harassing random people on the streets or in their places of worship for not adhering to the platform of their political movement?

Both are playing out in Minneapolis right now, and it is clear which one is making things worse. Videos on social media show anti-ICE (functionally, pro-open borders) activists harassing a random man and interrogating him about being an ICE agent because he was driving an SUV. That man was hounded, on camera, into professing his admiration and respect for the activists who were actively harassing him.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said President Donald Trump is serious about bringing Greenland under U.S. control, arguing Sunday that the Arctic territory "can only be defended if it is part of the U.S."

The stance is escalating tensions with NATO allies as European leaders reject any sale and warn the dispute could fracture transatlantic security cooperation.

In a Sunday "Meet the Press" interview, Bessent defended Trump’s push to acquire Greenland as a forward-looking national security move tied to Arctic competition with Russia and China, while declining to say whether the president has ruled out military action.

"President Trump strongly believes that we cannot outsource our security," Bessent told moderator Kristen Welker, describing a future "battle in the Arctic" and arguing the United States should not be pulled into a conflict over Greenland.

"We would keep our NATO guarantees," he said, but added, "better now, peace through strength, make it part of the United States, and there will not be a conflict because the United States right now, we are the hottest country in the world, we are the strongest country in the world.

"The Europeans project weakness. The U.S. projects strength."

President Donald Trump ripped Minnesota Democrats on Truth Social Sunday, saying they're exploiting federal immigration enforcement operations to distract attention from investigations into the state's massive fraud scandal.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent believes the Supreme Court will favor presidential authority on President Donald Trump's "signature economic policy" on tariffs, citing Obamacare as precedent. The Supreme Court is weighing a landmark decision on President Donald Trump's authority to impose tariffs to rebalance global trade and serve U.S. national security interests, and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said he believes the ruling will favor presidential authority, citing Obamacare as precedent.

"I believe that it is very unlikely that the Supreme Court will overrule a president's signature economic policy," Bessent told NBC News' "Meet the Press" on Sunday. "They did not overrule Obamacare.

"I believe that the Supreme Court does not want to create chaos."

Trump has appointed three conservatives to the court since former President Barack Obama got his signature healthcare law pushed across the finish line amid legal challenges, and this Supreme Court should side again with the authority of the president, according to Bessent.

Republican senators have asked the Justice Department to investigate a Minneapolis-based charity, which nearly landed $1 million in taxpayer money courtesy of Rep. Ilhan Omar, saying it shows signs of being a fraudulent operation.

The nonprofit group Generation Hope MN bills itself as a “Somali-led” organization offering drug addiction recovery services. It says it helps “East African youth” get “culturally specific treatment.”

Republican Sens. Joni Ernst of Iowa and Mike Lee of Utah said something about the operation is fishy, such as its locations. One is a shared space with a Somali restaurant, and the other is a home in a residential area.

U.S. armed forces are accelerating their military presence in the Middle East amid the possibility that President Donald Trump will order an attack on Iran, The Jerusalem Post reported on Sunday.

Twelve more F-15 jets arrived in Jordan over the weekend, with additional fighter aircraft reportedly on their way.

In addition, an aircraft carrier, its strike group, and two destroyers are expected to enter the U.S. Central Command's area of responsibility in less than a week.

Federal authorities are reportedly investigating the partner of Renee Nicole Good to determine whether she interfered with an ICE officer moments before the fatal shooting in Minneapolis.

The FBI developed evidence suggesting Good and her partner Becca Good had been following ICE officers on the day of the Jan. 7 incident, Fox News reported, citing a source familiar with the matter. The federal probe is focusing on Becca Good’s possible connections to activist groups rather than the actions of Officer Jonathan Ross, who fired the fatal shots.

The investigation falls under a December memo from Attorney General Pam Bondi that targets individuals who assault, resist or impede federal officers, according to NBC News. (RELATED: Gregg Jarrett Flags Potential Crime By Renee Good’s Wife In Minnesota ICE Incident)

President Donald Trump has called both women “professional agitators.” Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem labeled the incident “domestic terrorism” and alleged Renee Good had been “stalking and impeding” ICE agents throughout the day.

Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche said there is “currently no basis” for a civil rights investigation into Ross, NBC News reported.
