Making the Americas great again

The New World is waking up and rejecting socialism

COMMENTARY

By Editorial Board - The Washington Times - Friday, October 31, 2025

OPINION:

International experts wrote off Javier Milei as a flash-in-the-pan. Pollsters waved charts insisting the wild-haired libertarian economist who claimed Argentina’s presidency 2023 was doomed as his party headed into the midterm elections on Oct. 26.

The critics couldn’t have been more wrong. Mr. Milei’s team cleaned house, grabbing 40% of the vote, compared to just 24% for the Peronist faction. “This resounding victory for La Libertad Avanza is a triumph of the Argentine people’s unyielding spirit for freedom, prosperity, and the defeat of the socialist scourge that has plagued our nation for far too long,” Mr. Milei wrote on X.

He also thanked President Trump and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent for their shared belief in “MAGA” — making both Argentina and America great again. On the eve of voting, the U.S. Treasury signed a $20 billion economic stabilization agreement with the Central Bank of Argentina to ease the panic caused by media Cassandras following party losses in a few local elections.

Pundits proclaimed pro-freedom candidates had no chance in the midterms, and anxious investors were terrified that the Marxists would return. Mr. Trump soothed their fears.

“I’m doing something I don’t often do, I’m giving a full endorsement to him,” Mr. Trump said in a September meeting with Mr. Milei. “To the people of Argentina, we’re backing him 100%, we think he’s done a fantastic job. He, like us, inherited a terrible mess, and what he’s done to fix it is good.”

Instead of bribing voters with endless parades of subsidies and giveaways, Mr. Milei took a chainsaw to government waste and inefficiency. He slashed regulations. He implemented every scheme on the public policy wish list of free market economists, and the results were transformative.

Fans of big government solutions derided Mr. Milei as “crazy,” “radical” and “insane,” yet he turned a financial basket case into something closer to a functioning economy with a balanced budget. The inflation rate went from 211% to 31%. That’s still too much, but Mr. Milei has more to do before facing the electorate a second time in 2027. Until then, his success is inspiring neighbors to give liberty a chance.

Taking note of Argentina’s fiscal rehabilitation, the people of Bolivia cast out the socialist candidate for the first time in two decades. Rodrigo Paz scored 55% of the vote on a platform that seeks to strengthen ties with Washington, not Beijing and Moscow.

The FBI must answer for its Arctic Frost spying operation

By Washington Examiner

The breadth of the Biden administration‘s efforts to spy on its political opponents is only now coming into view, and the picture is alarming. The Justice Department must conduct a full investigation into how such invasive and improper steps were allowed to be taken to snoop on political actors, and those responsible must be held accountable.

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-IA) released hundreds of pages of documents in October made up of 197 subpoenas sent to 34 people and 163 businesses demanding information about more than 400 Republicans and entities, some of which did not even exist at the time of the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot, which was the incident on which the investigation was predicated.

From the outside, a gutted factory on the edge of a Ukrainian city doesn't seem like the cradle of a new form of criminal warfare.

But inside one of these sites, improvised obstacle courses and flight rigs have become a crucible for what are perhaps the most consequential weapons of the 21st century: unmanned aerial vehicles — small, fast, and cheap to build, yet devastating when converted into flying bombs.

Trump: Time to Go Nuclear to End Govt Shutdown

President Donald Trump is fresh off an Asian trip, cutting deals with China, and he's now ready to cut the cord on the Democrats' government shutdown by invoking the nuclear option to pass the House GOP continuing resolution by a simple majority. (Andrew Harnik/Getty Images)

President Donald Trump said Thursday it is time to get rid of the Senate's filibuster custom to bypass a Democrat roadblock during the ongoing government shutdown.

The "filibuster" is the Senate rule that requires 60 of the chamber's 100 members to agree to pass most legislation.Republicans hold a 53-47 majority in the Senate and a 219-213 majority in the House of Representatives.

"It is now time for the Republicans to play their 'TRUMP CARD,' and go for what is called the Nuclear Option — Get rid of the Filibuster, and get rid of it, NOW," Trump wrote on Truth Social.

The partial shutdown was in its 30th day on Thursday with no end in sight.

The federal government shutdown could cost the U.S. economy between $7 billion and $14 billion, shaving up to 2% from gross domestic product in the fourth quarter due to the lapse in government spending, the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office said on Wednesday.

Though Chicago topped the list of America’s most rat-infested cities for over a decade, Los Angeles has now claimed the mantle, according to new data from pest control company Orkin.

The Atlanta-based company
released its annual “rattiest cities list” on Tuesday, crowning Los Angeles as the American city most infiltrated with rodents. Los Angeles is notorious for its pervasive homelessness problem, which Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom has failed to fix despite his efforts across the Golden State.

The governor also
signed a bill in September 2024 cracking down on some strong rodenticides to protect wildlife.

“As Orkin’s annual Top 50 Rattiest Cities List enters its second decade, a new city is claiming the top spot for the first time in the list’s history,” Orkin’s website states. “Historically, Chicago has occupied the No.1 spot every year that Orkin has released its annual rankings, which it has been reporting for over a decade. But this year, there is a new city being crowned the ‘rattiest’ — Los Angeles.”

U.S. President Donald Trump met with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi during his visit to Japan from Oct. 27 to 29, during which new rare-earth deals and expanded investments were announced to mark what both leaders called a “new golden age” of the U.S.–Japan alliance.

While the visit drew scrutiny from China’s Foreign Ministry, analysts say the summit reaffirmed Washington’s strategic focus on containing Beijing’s influence across the Indo-Pacific.

Renewed Alliance

On Oct. 28 in Tokyo, Trump met with Takaichi at the Akasaka Palace before the two boarded the Marine One presidential helicopter for the Yokosuka Naval Base, where they toured the aircraft carrier USS George Washington.

Addressing 6,000 U.S. service members stationed in Japan, Trump
announced the first delivery of U.S.-made missiles to Japan’s Self-Defense Forces.

The president referred to Takaichi as a great friend and reaffirmed America’s alliance with Japan.

“The cherished alliance between the United States and Japan is one of the most remarkable relationships in the entire world,” Trump said.

“Born out of the ashes of a terrible war, our bond has grown over eight decades into the beautiful friendship that we have. It’s a foundation of peace and security in the Pacific.”

Devin Nunes: Jack Smith Sought Trump Media Bank Records

By Newsmax Wires | Thursday, 30 October 2025 11:11 AM EDT

Trump Media & Technology Group Corp. (TMTG) CEO and Chairman Devin Nunes on Thursday accused former special counsel Jack Smith of wielding "a shockingly broad, secret subpoena" for TMTG's banking records despite the company not even existing at the time of his underlying investigation.

"[TMTG] was among the more than 400 Trump-linked individuals and organizations that were spied on as part of Special Counsel Jack Smith's investigation of President Donald Trump — specifically, the Smith team issued a shockingly broad, secret subpoena for our banking records," Nunes said in a statement on
Truth Social.

"This is a stunning abuse of power against a private business and our hundreds of thousands of retail investors, especially since Trump Media did not even exist at the time of the events Jack Smith was supposedly investigating."

Nunes called for answers from both the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and JPMorgan Chase & Co. on whether they were aware of the subpoena and whether bank records were leaked.

President Trump will meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Thursday at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit in Gyeongju, South Korea. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent are also expected to meet with their counterparts.

These will be some of the most important meetings of Mr.

A Google executive said the company made “mistakes” while handling complaints of election fraud during a U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation hearing held Oct. 29.

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), who serves as the committee chairman, showed screenshots of a YouTube video that allegedly highlighted how former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and President Donald Trump both voiced concerns about election fraud and then asked Markham Erickson, who leads Google’s Government Affairs and Public Policy Centers of Excellence, why the video was taken down.

“YouTube deleted it, blocked it and gave the creator a strike, a step toward deleting his entire channel,” Cruz said. ”Why would you remove a journalist’s record of the claims of election fraud from both democrats and republicans?”

The Epoch Times has been unable to confirm specifically which YouTube video, owned by Google’s parent company Alphabet, Inc., was being discussed during the hearing and has reached out to Cruz’s press office for a copy of the screenshots that were mentioned.

Erickson responded: “We have election policies and we’ve had election policies for a long time to ensure that the most important thing that citizens can do, which is to vote, they can find relevant and useful information on our platforms. Where to vote, for example. What time the ...”

Cruz interrupted Erickson and reiterated that his question was regarding a blocked YouTube video that discussed claims of election fraud made by presidential candidates from both parties, not voting.

South Korea gifted President Donald Trump an enormous crown during his visit on Wednesday, just weeks after the “No Kings” protest in the U.S.

South Korean President Lee Jae Myung
gave Trump the gift as part of his East Asian diplomatic blitz, shoring up America’s alliances in the region before a high-stakes meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit Thursday. The crown is a replica of the crowns worn by the kings of the Silla kingdom, which ruled Korea for over 1,000 years until the 10th century.

The “No Kings” protests lasted only a few days in the U.S., but other
protestors in Korea used its themes during demonstrations on Wednesday during Trump’s visit. (RELATED: Trump Says He’s Open To Meeting With Kim Jong Un During Asia Trip)

The Democratic Party doesn’t need a makeover. It needs a bulldozer.

Most voters think Democrats over-prioritize pet issues, such as “protecting the rights of LGBTQ+ Americans” and “fighting climate change,” reports the new center-left group, Welcome. Those same voters think Democrats under-prioritize — or don’t care at all — about “securing the border,” “lowering everyday costs,” and “lowering the rate of crime.”

Chuck Grassley (R-IA) said their investigation began in July 2022 following whistleblower disclosures about Operation Arctic Frost, which targeted the communications of numerous GOP senators--including Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX)--and organizations under then-special counsel Jack Smith, as RedState

Could This Be the Last UN Climate Conference?

Next month, the 2025 United Nations Climate Change Conference, or Conference of the Parties of the UNFCCC (COP30), will start up. This year's event will be held in the town of Belém, Brazil, from the 10th to the 21st of November. An eight-mile, four-lane highway has already been bulldozed through the Brazilian rainforest, upsetting a lot of locals, so that the attendees to this climate conference can ride in their limousines in air-conditioned comfort from the airport to the venue, without having to pass through the town.

Yes, that is an act of gross hypocrisy. But it may be the last such act of gross hypocrisy. And if it isn't, it should be. It is an atrocious waste of time and money that should embarrass even the United Nations, which is itself a huge waste of time and money.

Why might this be the last one? Well, here's why, and I'm going to tell you. A new editorial at Issues & Insights, as it happens,
also has some thoughts.

The United Nation’s 30th Conference of the Parties, known as COP30, will be held next month in Belem, Brazil. It will be a nearly two-week festival of intellectual depravity, in which fiery sermons are preached, nags are given an undeserved forum, backs are slapped, glasses clinked and participants tell each other and the world how important they are. Our hope is that it’s an endangered species falling hard toward extinction.

While the crisis-mongers are supping luxuriously and congratulating themselves for saving a world that’s in no danger from human fossil-fuel exhaust, their crusade is losing momentum.

That's a big part of the problem. The climate scolds attending this mess are very nearly at the Marie Antoinette level of cluelessness. It's not just the road: It's the private jets, the yachts, the fancy eats, all of that - and this, all coming from people who wag their fingers at us over our carbon footprints.

Maybe that's why they are losing the public.

President Donald Trump is continuing his trip through Asia.

He signed trade deals in Malaysia, as well as peace accords that he helped to broker between Cambodia and Thailand. And he delivered an epic Trump dance. Then he went to Japan, where he got another trade deal on critical minerals and Japanese investment in the United States. He seemed to make a fast friend of the new Japanese Prime Minister, Sanae Takaichi.

Trump then traveled to South Korea, where he said they had made trade progress and worked out details of an agreement to bring investments to the United States. The White House posted a "fact sheet" explaining billions in investments and exports, energy deals, and strengthening the U.S.'s technology position.

Add that progress to the success he had in Malaysia and in Japan, and it's looking like he's bringing home a lot of good for the country.

South Korea truly rolled out the welcome mat for Trump, awarding him the Grand Order of Mugunghwa, the country's highest civilian honor, for his work in furthering peace in the Korean peninsula.

The House Judiciary Committee said Tuesday that the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI) “Arctic Frost” probe potentially targeted more than 150 Republican officials and allies.

Newly released
documents reveal the Biden-era Department of Justice (DOJ) and FBI ran an investigation into Trump allies, according to the committee. Nearly 200 pages of records provide insight into the sweeping probe. The move reportedly started under FBI Director Chris Wray and later continued by Special Counsel Jack Smith under Attorney General Merrick Garland.

Elon Musk on Tuesday launched Grokipedia, an AI-generated online encyclopedia he says will outclass Wikipedia and cut through ideological spin, rolling out a “version 0.1.”

Billed as a fix for what Musk calls Wikipedia’s left-leaning bias,
Grokipedia is built by his xAI team and shipped with roughly 885,000 entries — far fewer than Wikipedia’s English corpus, but enough for a public debut. Musk announced the release on X and promised “Version 1.0 will be 10X better.” (RELATED: Wikipedia Donations Go Toward Embedding Feminism And Racial Justice In World’s Largest Encyclopedia)

“Grokipedia.com version 0.1 is now live. Version 1.0 will be 10X better, but even at 0.1 it’s better than Wikipedia imo,” Musk posted.

America needs energy dominance

We're in an arms race, and there can be only one winner

The United States of America needs energy dominance and independence illustration by Linas Garsys / The Washington Times more >

COMMENTARY

By Clifford D. May - Tuesday, October 28, 2025

OPINION:

National security requires energy security. American greatness — by which I mean the maintenance of American power second to none in a world where despotic regimes threaten free nations — requires more than that. It requires energy dominance.

To achieve this goal, President Trump has established the
National Energy Dominance Council, whose chairman, Interior Secretary Doug Burgum, and vice chairman, Energy Secretary Chris Wright, also have seats on the National Security Council.

This is a sharp departure from the Biden administration, for which energy policy was subsidiary to climate policy. Former Secretary of State John F. Kerry was the first special presidential envoy for climate, a position since abolished, and also served on the National Security Council.

Based on the dubious assertion that climate change is “the existential challenge of our time,” Mr. Kerry pushed for an “energy transition,” with the government mandating that American hydrocarbons stay in the ground and subsidizing such purportedly “green and clean” energy sources as the sun and the wind.

His mission was not accomplished. When President Biden took office in January 2021, fossil fuels accounted for roughly 79% of U.S. primary energy consumption. By 2024, that percentage had increased to roughly 82%.

Energy dominance is not a new idea. In his 2007 book, “Energy Victory,” Robert Zubrin wrote that for “nearly a century, control of oil has been the decisive factor determining victory or defeat in the struggle for world dominance.”

When World War I began in 1914, the United States was responsible for as much as 70% of global oil production. German U-boats did serious damage to American shipping but ultimately failed to stop American oil from reaching Britain and France.

“The crack German infantry were as tough as they come,” Mr. Zubrin writes, “but there was no way they could cope with a new army equipped with fleets of rampaging gasoline-powered land battleships and assisted by unmatched swarms of fighter aircraft.”

Bill Gates' 180 on Climate Change: 'It's Not Doomsday'

By Charlie McCarthy | Tuesday, 28 October 2025 09:43 AM EDT

Billionaire Bill Gates appears to have shifted his stance on the risks posed by climate change.

In a memo published by
Gates Notes on Monday night, the Microsoft co-founder, who has poured billions into combating global warming, urged a move away from what he called a "doomsday outlook" and toward improving living conditions in developing nations.

"Although climate change will have serious consequences — particularly for people in the poorest countries — it will not lead to humanity's demise," Gates wrote. "People will be able to live and thrive in most places on Earth for the foreseeable future."

The 70-year-old philanthropist's statement marks a notable change from his 2021 book, "
How to Avoid a Climate Disaster."

The essay came a week before the
U.N. COP30 climate summit in Brazil. Gates said he will not attend this year's event and instead wants to emphasize global health, poverty, and resilience.

China provided more than $530 million to top-ranked American universities in recent years, but the schools failed to disclose how the funds were spent, prompting concerns about foreign influence, according to an open-source intelligence report.

According to the report, New York University, the largest recipient of Chinese funds, received $198 million from 2022 to 2024 and reported to the federal government details on how only $360,000 was spent.

Beijing paid other schools tens of millions of dollars from 2022 to 2024. Education Department data showed that the major recipients included Stanford University ($50 million), Yale University ($35 million) and Duke University ($37 million).

Most of the schools failed to provide details on how the money was spent, raising concerns that the funds are intended to buy influence at U.S. universities, including among professors and students.

Stanford disclosed in reports to the Education Department how $5.9 million of its Chinese money was spent, Yale provided details on $9.8 million, and Duke reported on $1.6 million of its Chinese funds.

The report by Data Abyss, a China-focused research firm, said the lack of transparency highlights what critics call Chinese “elite capture,” or the use of money to influence intelligentsia, American professors, researchers and students to support
Beijing’s political, economic and technology goals.

The report is based on newly released data required under Section 117 of the 1965 Higher Education Act.

The law requires all universities that receive federal funding to disclose foreign payments of more than $250,000.

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina — Markets in Argentina rallied, the peso surged and the country’s sovereign bonds jumped on Monday as libertarian President Javier Milei hailed his party’s resounding victory in midterm congressional elections as a mandate to press forward with radical free-market reforms.

The chronically depreciating Argentine peso — which international investors and Argentine depositors were dumping in droves just last week to hedge against a Milei defeat — soared more than 10% to trade at over 1,300 per dollar on Monday.

The price movements — signaling that investors were recovering confidence in Argentina — validated the
Trump administration’s bet on its close ideological ally in South America.

Trump to Japan PM: 'We Are Ally at Strongest Level'

Monday, 27 October 2025 11:01 PM EDT

VIDEO

President Donald Trump began one of his busiest days of his Asia trip on Tuesday by warmly greeting the new Japanese prime minister, with plans to later speak to U.S. troops aboard an aircraft carrier and mingle with business leaders.

Although Trump is visiting one of America's most steadfast allies in Asia, there's no shortage of uncertainty while he is there. Sanae Takaichi, who became the country's first female prime minister only days ago, must solidify her relationship with Trump while defending her country's economic interests.

Trump called her role as Japan's first woman prime minister as a "big deal," putting an emphasis on the U.S. commitment to Japan. While the president in the past has publicly scolded his foreign counterparts, he had nothing but praise for Tackaichi.

"Anything I can do to help Japan, we will be there," Trump said. "We are an ally at the strongest level."

Google Denies Claims of Gmail Security Breach

Multiple reports of stolen Gmail passwords are not accurate, according to the company.

Google denied claims that it suffered a security breach Monday after published reports warned Gmail users to check their accounts because millions of passwords were allegedly stolen.

“Reports of a ‘Gmail security breach impacting millions of users’ are false,” Google
stated on X. “Gmail’s defenses are strong, and users remain protected.”

Australian cyber expert Troy Hunt was the first to
claim the breach included 3.5 terabytes of data Friday.

Hunt said 183 million email accounts were compromised by “infostealers,” a malware designed to collect sensitive data and passwords. The stolen information is passed to hackers, who use it for phishing campaigns and scams, or it is sold online, Hunt stated.

According to Google, the inaccurate reports stemmed from a misunderstanding of infostealer databases, which compile theft activity across the web.

“It’s not reflective of a new attack aimed at any one person, tool, or platform,” Google stated.

President Donald Trump and Russia collusion claims in court illustration by Linas Garsys / The Washington Times more >

COMMENTARY

By Rowan Scarborough - The Washington Times - Monday, October 27, 2025

OPINION:

President Trump’s hierarchy is signaling more criminal charges against Russia hoaxers besides the indictment of former FBI director and dossier impresario James B. Comey.

Out of office in 2022, Mr. Trump filed a nearly 200-page lawsuit in Florida, accusing several Democrats and FBI officials of conspiring against him with bogus Russia collusion claims. The list of defendants is a who’s who of 2016-2017 inquisitions.

The lawsuit, alleging malicious prosecution, was assigned to U.S. District Court Judge
Donald Middlebrooks, a Clinton appointee and former aide to a Democratic Florida governor. The Trump team asked him to quit the case because defendant Hillary Clinton’s husband had appointed him. The judge refused and then quickly dismissed the case in an opinion that dripped with mockery of Trump.
