As we’ve reported, NASA astronauts were rescued by SpaceX after being stranded in space aboard the International Space Station for more than nine months. Their trip was supposed to last eight days, but problems with the Boeing Starliner that was supposed to return them to earth left them floating weightless out in the ether.

SpaceX CEO Elon Musk had offered his help to the Biden administration, but he reported that they turned him down for “
political reasons.” Putting the lives of brave astronauts on the line for a few extra votes tells you everything you need to know about that failure of a president, Joe Biden.

President Trump made their return a priority, and after a spectacular SpaceX rescue mission, they are safely
back on terra firma.

On Monday, they gave their first interview since returning home and how they tried to make the best of a trying situation.

"My first thought was we've just got to pivot," Williams said, recalling the moment the duo learned their return would be delayed.

"If our spacecraft was going to go home based on decisions made here, and we were going to be up there 'til February, I was like, 'Let's make the best of it.'"

A little "excited" about the prospect of spending months in orbit, Williams enthused about her love for living in space – witnessing "scientific experiments" unfolding around them and seeing the changes made to the International Space Station since her last visit.

"I'm honored to be a little part of it," she added.

In what should be a moment of clarity for anyone paying attention, ICE recently detained an international graduate student from the University of Minnesota. The student—whose name and alleged offenses have not been disclosed—was apprehended near the Twin Cities campus. It’s part of a broader sweep by federal authorities across multiple universities targeting individuals whose activities allegedly align with terrorist sympathies or radical activism.

You’d think people would appreciate a government doing its job—keeping a close eye on foreign nationals with potential ties to dangerous ideologies. But no. Cue the performative outrage and sanctimonious wailing from Democrats like Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, who rushed to the cameras as if ICE had just kicked in the door of a preschool rather than detained someone who may pose a threat to national security.

Let me remind Governor Walz of something painfully obvious: international students are not entitled to be here. They’re here because we—the United States of America—graciously allow them to be. It is a privilege, not a right. And if we discover that anyone on a student visa is dabbling in radical politics, celebrating terrorism, or otherwise abusing the trust placed in them, we have every right—indeed the obligation—to send them packing.

But Democrats like Walz don’t see it that way. They consistently defend not just the activists, but in many cases the sympathizers of terrorists themselves. This is the same Tim Walz who once amplified a comment that compared ICE operations to “terrorism” in America. Yes, according to the Left, actual terrorists need to be understood and accommodated—ICE agents, though? They’re the problem.

Italian Senator Awards Doctor Fighting to Expose Organ Harvesting

Katerina Angelakopoulou was awarded for her work to expose the persecution against Falun Gong, a religious community she belongs to.

Women from all walks of life were invited to the Italian senate to share their stories. Among them was a doctor dedicated to safeguarding medical ethics and exposing an ongoing yet little-known crime against humanity.

The Stories of Excellent Italian Women event, held on March 21, honored women who have distinguished themselves through their service to others and contributions to the community.

“We want to overturn the narrative that too often paints women only as victims of hardship and discrimination,” Sen. Cinzia Pellegrino, a member of Italy’s ruling party and the event’s sponsor, said. “In Italy, there are so many extraordinary women who deserve to be recognized for what they truly are: examples of courage, competence, and success.”

One of the award recipients was Dr. Katerina Angelakopoulou, a member of Washington-based medical ethics advocacy group Doctors Against Forced Organ Harvesting (DAFOH).

In China, according to DAFOH, the common standards of organ donation are turned upside-down. Instead of patients being placed on a waiting list until a suitable donor is found, potential donors are incarcerated as prisoners of conscience and used as a living organ bank. The organization believes that this is made possible through state-sanctioned, systematic murder on demand as part of the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) persecution of Falun Gong.

Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline consisting of meditative exercises and teachings based on the principles of truthfulness, compassion, and tolerance. Since 1999, the CCP has waged a relentless campaign to eradicate the practice within and beyond the country’s borders.

A Doctor’s Mission to Save Lives

A Falun Gong practitioner herself, Angelakopoulou serves as president of the Italian Falun Dafa Association and has spent years raising awareness about atrocities perpetrated against practitioners, particularly forced organ harvesting, by the CCP.

U.S. Can't Afford China's Control of the Oceans

By Larry Bell

Beijing has gained great progress in achieving military and commercial trade control of the world’s oceans through massive state-financed shipbuilding and maritime port infrastructure investments at the expense of U.S. national security and economic competitiveness.

According to the Congressional Record Service, China is projected to have 435 warships by 2030, outnumbering the U.S. fleet by more than one-third.

The comparative U.S. shipping trade market is shrinking as well.

Whereas the U.S. had
a commercial fleet of more than 5,000 ships at the end of World War II constituting 40% of the world’s total, only about 90 ships involved in international trade sail under U.S. flags today.

Since the end of the 1970s, even the U.S. has increasingly relied on other nations for commercial shipping services, with 98% of America’s shipping trade depending upon foreign-flagged ships for exports and import supply chains that fuel our economy.

China’s naval growth is nourished by government subsidies — an
estimated $132 billion between 2010 and 2018 — which have secured nearly half the world’s shipbuilding market, along with control over the ports and shipyards.

US Needs Greenland Access to ‘Protect the West,’ According to Victor Davis Hanson

Jeremy Frankel | March 30, 2025 6:00 PM

The United States needs access to Greenland to protect American interests, according to Victor Davis Hanson, a senior fellow at the Hoover Institution.

The visit last week by Vice President JD Vance, shows the need for an American presence in the area, Hanson
told Newsmax. President Trump has raised this concern many times as well.

“So there has to be some kind of compromise where we have access to protect the West from its enemies. But I don't think anybody wants to take it over and colonize it as they've accused us of,” Hanson said.

Greenland’s proximity to the United States logically leads to the notion that an American presence makes sense, Hanson said, especially from a national security standpoint.

“It's a North American territory. So China and Russia are active in its airspace and its maritime zones and we need somebody to keep them out and keep it Western. And he (Trump) says that requires a greater presence than we have.”

“I mean, it's North America. It's closer to New York than it is to Denmark. Denmark is always lecturing everybody on postmodern anti-colonialism. But it's a colonial relic,” Hanson continued.

Despite leftist criticism, JD and First Lady Usha Vance visited Greenland anyway. They were joined by National Security Adviser Mike Waltz, Energy Secretary Chris Wright, and Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) for a tour of Pituffik Space Base.

The vice president spoke to members of the military and discussed the island’s importance to the U.S. and its national security implications.

“I think a lot of Americans wonder, ‘Well, why does Greenland matter so much? Why does the mission of this base matter so much to the American people? And I learned a lot about that today myself. Of course, you can read about it in a book, but I saw it up close and personal. And if, God forbid … if a missile was from an enemy country or an enemy submarine into the United States, it is the people here before us who would give notice to our brave men and women farther south in the United States to let people know what was coming, and God willing, to try to shoot it down and prepare for it,” Vance
said.

Former Gov. Scott Walker behind push to get Trump, Musk involved in WI Supreme Court race

By Barnini Chakraborty
March 29, 2025 2:41 pm

EXCLUSIVE — OCONOMOWOC, Wisconsin — How did a state court race, that in any other circumstance would be ignored by the White House, end up on President Donald Trump and Elon Musk’s radar?

Turns out, it was the brainchild of two men: former Wisconsin Republican Gov. Scott Walker and Keith Gilkes. The latter is the longtime head of Walker’s political operation who also oversaw Musk’s efforts in Wisconsin last year, ultimately helping deliver a win for the president over former Vice President Kamala Harris.

RECOMMENED STORIES

* North Carolina lawmakers hope to end Trump administration lawsuits
* Progressive lawmakers fill leadership vacuum after Democrats' 2024 losses

Former Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R) at a campaign stop with state Supreme Court candidate Brad Schimel (left) in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin on Thursday, March 27, 2025. (Barnini Chakraborty/Washington Examiner)

Walker and Gilkes began strategizing last fall how to get then-candidate Trump to focus on the contest, and by extension, how to get enough money flowing into the race to make it competitive.

Before any pitches were made, the duo had to wait and see how well Trump performed in the brutal
battleground state, where both sides fought hard for every vote. Trump ended up winning Wisconsin by about 30,000 votes.

It was then that Walker, Wisconsin’s 45th governor, and Gilkes, a respected Republican political strategist, kicked their plan into high gear.

“The Trump White House is not unlike any others in the past where they are always reluctant to get involved in races that don’t appear to be directly connected to them,” Walker told the Washington Examiner. “Normally if you’re an incoming president, you worry about the Senate and House first, just to keep the majorities you have or to build them up, and maybe secondarily, help elect governors to keep them as allies but you don’t get far beyond that. So, a Supreme Court race for any president is huge.”

Not only was getting the president — any president — to focus on a state court race difficult, Walker had the added complication that conservative candidate Brad Schimel was behind in the polls.

While Schimel had name recognition as the state’s former Republican attorney general, his liberal opponent Judge Susan Crawford had very rich donors, including billionaires George Soros and Gov. JB Pritzker (D-IL).

Walker believed that if Republicans could mobilize at least two-thirds of Trump’s base to vote for Schimel — combined with a massive cash infusion and a strong ground game — they could win. But he needed more to persuade the president.

He had to frame the race as a referendum on Trump, positioning a victory for Schimel as a win for the president and his conservative agenda.

Walker was aided by Crawford’s own words, highlighting her ability to influence the redrawing of congressional districts and threaten the GOP House majority.

He told the Washington Examiner that comments made by Crawford during a briefing with Democratic donors billing the race as a “chance to put two more House seats in play” showed that she was committed to redrawing congressional districts to benefit Democrats.

He also pointed to comments made by
Democratic Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) telling Wisconsin voters to elect Crawford so that she and other justices could redraw congressional districts in a way more favorable to the party.

If Democrats succeed in redrawing the districts, they could regain control of the U.S. House in next year’s midterm election. A flipped House would make it increasingly difficult for Trump to advance his agenda through Congress.

“All of those things brought a lot of attention to the voters but also to the president and in turn Elon Musk,” Walker said. “[Musk’s] main reason for getting involved is that he likes the president and doesn’t want to see his agenda get thwarted and it doesn’t hurt that Gilkes, my former campaign manager, chief of staff, helped the operation for his group last November here in Wisconsin.”

Walker praised the billionaire and his political group’s “creative” ways of finding voters during his interview with the Washington Examiner.

“Their focus in Wisconsin and in other battleground states was very much from a business standpoint of how do you do unique things to identify your customers and in this case, customers being voters, and they were very very effective in doing that,” Walker said. “In turn, I think, they have been very effective in trying to identify people who voted for Trump but don’t typically vote in the Supreme and that’s why you’ve seen it be effectively a tie race.”

Walker spent part of last week on Schimel’s massive election bus visiting voters across the state.

COMMENTARY

By Scott Walker - Thursday, March 27, 2025

OPINION:

Judges are trying to block the will of the majority of us who voted for President Trump. The outcome of the Supreme Court race in Wisconsin could lead to yet another barrier to the Trump administration if radical Dane County Circuit Court Judge Susan Crawford is elected as a new justice. We can’t let that happen.

U.S. District Judge James Boasberg ordered that two deportation flights to Central America, filled with violent gang members who were in the United States illegally, return to the United States. The White House refused to abide by the order, claiming that the flights with criminals and terrorists were outside the jurisdiction of the judge.

Administration officials explained that Mr. Trump was invoking the Alien Enemies Act to deport non-citizens who were identified as members of the notorious Tren de Aragua gang. Attorney General Pam Bondi called them a “foreign arm of the Venezuelan government.” Justice Department attorneys cited national security concerns after refusing to provide Judge Boasberg with information about the flights after officials refused to turn them around and return to the United States.

Mr. Trump signed a proclamation that the Venezuelan government sent Tren de Aragua to invade the United States, and they were “conducting irregular warfare and undertaking hostile actions against the United States.” Last month, he moved to designate them and a number of Mexican drug cartels as “Foreign Terrorist Organizations.”

Federal statutes layout three criteria for triggering the Alien Enemies Act. One of them is an invasion. Any of us who have visited the southern border during the past decade can see that there is an invasion taking place there that got significantly worse from January 2021 until January 2025. Now, President Trump is getting the worst-of-the-worst that got in during that period out of our country.

If Judge Crawford is elected to the High Court in Wisconsin, watch for her and the other three radical justices to try to block even more of the Trump agenda. I can see them attempting to stop any deportations from my home state. She must not win.

Another judge blocked President Trump’s executive order protecting female service members from having to live and bathe in common areas with service members who were born male. President Trump also signed an executive order protecting young women in sports from having to compete against biological men. It also protects them from having to share locker rooms and showers.

In Wisconsin, liberal Gov. Tony Evers tried to sneak language into the state budget that would replace “mother” with “inseminated person.” Thankfully, conservatives still hold majorities in the state Legislature, but the election of Judge
Crawford could block further efforts to protect women in sports.

COMMENTARY

By Cheryl K. Chumley - The Washington Times - Saturday, March 29, 2025

OPINION:

The U.S. Supreme Court will soon decide whether or not President Donald Trump can deport deemed dangerous gang members, including those involved with designated terrorist organizations, using the Alien Enemies Act.

The fact this has to go to the High Court only underscores the absolute decay of the Democrat Party.

If Democrats truly cared about the safety of American citizens, they wouldn’t be mounting such a coordinated defense of Venezuelans identified by this administration as members of the bloody and violent Tren de Aragua gang. They wouldn’t be tipping their media friends to launch a public relations blitz on behalf of the gang members that relied on teary-eyed familial assertions and claims of innocence as proof of Team Trump’s unconstitutional overreach. Gang? What gang? Carlos was a hard-working dishwasher who loved his mama and his 14 children and attended church six times a week!

“Families of deported Venezuelans disputed gang claims,” NPR
wrote a few days ago.

See? See? Nothing to see here. (Just ask Judge James Boasberg. He’s got four Trump cases right now. He knows all about Trump, wink, wink.)

Once again, Democrats are on the wrong side of Americans. Once more, Democrats are weaponizing an issue that ought to be unifying. It’s not controversial to expel people from society who are trying to destroy said society.

Bill Gates Exposes the Frightening Future of AI

Sarah Arnold | March 29, 2025 3:15 PM

Justin Tallis/Pool via AP

Bill Gates has stirred controversy once again, this time claiming that artificial intelligence (AI) will replace doctors and teachers within the next decade, suggesting that humans may soon be unnecessary "for most things." While his predictions about AI are nothing new, his latest remarks raise serious concerns. Should we really be trusting critical aspects of human life, such as healthcare and education, to machines?

During a recent interview on NBC’s The Tonight Show, Gates predicted that in the next 10 years, AI will take over most professions because it will be able to perform tasks that currently require specialized human skills.

The leftist billionaire stated that expertise in areas such as medicine and education remains “rare” and relies on “a great doctor” or “a great teacher.” However, by 2035 and beyond, “great medical advice [and] great tutoring” will become widespread through AI. He characterized it as “free intelligence,” where AI-powered technologies will be available and impact nearly every aspect of daily life.

“It’s very profound and even a little bit scary — because it’s happening very quickly, and there is no upper bound,” he said.

Gates predicted that AI would likely not replace jobs in the entertainment industry. However, manufacturing, transportation, and agriculture jobs would eventually become “basically solved problems” through AI.

The Real Reasons Why Democrats are Fighting DOGE

Jeff Charles | March 29, 2025 3:45 PM

It is no secret that Democrats are steadfastly opposed to the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). From the first day of President Donald Trump’s second term, the left began filing lawsuits aimed at disrupting the agency’s effort to streamline government operations and eliminate waste. Their goal appears to be stopping DOGE wherever they can.

But why?

Democrats love the government more than a hungry rottweiler would love a juicy steak, don’t they? Wouldn’t it behoove them to ensure the government becomes more efficient?

One might think that the last thing they would want is for the federal government to be less proficient.

So, what gives?

The State Department said that cuts to USAID have had no impact on the U.S. ability to assist with disaster response.

The Burmese military junta said that as of March 29, the death toll of the Friday earthquake had risen to over 1,600.

Burma (also known as Myanmar) was
hit by a magnitude 7.7 earthquake on Friday, causing widespread destruction, particularly in Mandalay city, where numerous buildings collapsed.

The junta warned that the numbers could further increase as search and rescue operations continue. Burmese junta leader General Min Aung Hlaing has since invited “any country or organization” to provide assistance,
according to local media.

Speaking to reporters at the Oval Office, President Donald Trump on Friday said that his administration had spoken to the officials in Burma following the devastating earthquake.

“We’re going to be helping. We’ve already alerted the people,” Trump said. “It’s terrible what happened. We’ve already spoken with the country.”

Trump’s remarks came as a federal appeals court on Friday
allowed the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to continue to lead its downsizing efforts at the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID)—the agency responsible for administering U.S. foreign aid—after pausing a previous lower court’s injunction.

Donald Trump is purging culture of destructive Marxist ideologies

COMMENTARY

By Cheryl K. Chumley - The Washington Times - Friday, March 28, 2025

OPINION:

President Donald Trump signed an executive order to root out and remove those exhibits at the nation’s Smithsonian museums that display “improper ideology” — that is, the kind that advance Marxist and anti-American values and viewpoints. Let the purge go forth! Let the leftists cry all they want.

The left hates it when conservatives insist on using tax dollars for pro-America purposes.

For far too long, Democrats have taken the more than $1 billion that taxpayers provide each year for the Smithsonian Institution and spent them on the likes of programs that show why white people suck, why America sucks and why all of Western society sucks. An example?

“The order singles out the National Museum of African American History and Culture as problematic, claiming that it informs visitors that ‘hard work,’ ‘individualism’ and ‘the nuclear family’ are aspects of ‘White culture,’” The New York Post
wrote.

Does that then imply “Black culture” would promote laziness, obedience to government and broken homes?

Certain principles should be unifying.

Certain values and behaviors and societal standards should be shared and celebrated.

And prior to the takeover of the Democrat Party by card-carrying communist-minded members — prior to Barack Obama’s days of presidency — it was pretty much assumed that both hard work and families that were headed by hard working parents, i.e., a mother and a father, i.e., a woman and a man, were core foundations of prosperous and healthy societies. Sanity, for Democrats, has long left the room, though. Now, it’s tough to find party faithful who dare to even claim the existence of two sexes, and two sexes only — which leads to Trump’s next issue with the Smithsonian.

Harrison Fields to Newsmax: Judges Trying to Usurp Trump's Powers

By Sandy Fitzgerald | Friday, 28 March 2025 01:59 PM EDT

The executive branch of the U.S. government has been "hamstrung" by the judiciary's rules against President Donald Trump's actions in office, including with rulings blocking him from the use of the Alien Enemies Act of 1798 to allow the deportations of alleged Venezuelan gang members, deputy press secretary Harrison Fields said on Newsmax Friday.

"The judiciary is trying to take away the
Article II powers of the president, the chief executive of the executive branch," Fields told "National Report." "That is a fundamental constitutional crisis that the American people are witnessing."

His comments came after Trump on Friday petitioned the
U.S. Supreme Court to vacate an order barring his administration from using the Alien Enemies Act to deport Venezuelan migrants to a prison in El Salvador.

Trump's petition came after a D.C. appeals court refused in a 2-1 decision to reverse federal Judge James Boasberg's ruling to temporarily block the deportations.

"What we are doing is going to the high court and telling them something has to be done," said Fields. "You cannot have the judiciary acting as somehow a higher branch of government in which all three branches are coequal."

He added that he would challenge Boasberg, the federal judge ruling against Trump's use of the 18th-century wartime law, to "reread the Constitution and understand that his actions and the actions of this D.C. appeals court, which is essentially doubling down on the unconstitutional behavior of Judge Boasberg, to reread the Constitution and understand Article II."

And if the court and Boasberg had done so, Fields contended, "They would have thrown out this case from the beginning. We have full confidence that the U.S. Supreme Court will stand for the Constitution and stand with President Trump on this matter."

He added that the administration will continue with its deportation efforts.

"We are getting out these bad hombres, if you will, back to their countries because America needs to become safe again," said Fields. That's exactly what President Trump is doing."

Trump Answers the One Question That Has Confused Democrats – and One Supreme Court Justice – for Years

President Trump doesn't shy away from media questions, no matter how difficult they might be. You won't hear him deliver responses in political-speak. And you won't hear him say he'll address the matter after speaking to his aides.

He's very upfront and, unlike his political adversaries, talks like a normal human being.

But when a reporter on Friday asked him the one question that has confounded countless Democrats, media members, college students, and even one Supreme Court Justice, all one could do was hold their breath.

Would he be able to answer? Or would he get tripped up like so many before him?

"What is a woman?" one reporter wondered. "And why is it important that we understand the difference between men and women?"

As one would imagine, Trump fielded the question rather easily, providing his trademark sense of humor in the process.

"Well, it's sort of easy to answer for me, because a woman is somebody that can have a baby, under certain circumstances," he replied. "She has a quality - A woman is a person who is much smarter than a man, I've always found."

His comment elicited laughter and applause throughout the room.

Trump continued, saying, "A woman is a person that doesn't give a man even a chance of success."

Which is either an attempt at keeping the 'women are better than men' quip going, or he meant to say a man can't have success without a woman by his side.

We're sure Melania would agree.

The President then turned the question into a lesson in how women, with men being forced into sports by the extreme left, have not been treated well in recent years. Which changes now under the new science-based administration.

TIPSHEET

A Second US Destroyer Was Deployed to the Southern Border

On Saturday, the United States Navy announced that an additional warship would be deployed to the southern border to stop illegal immigration and drug smuggling.

The USS Spruance, an Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer, departed Naval Base San Diego Saturday.

According to a statement from the Navy, Spruance will enhance maritime efforts, support interagency collaboration and contribute to a coordinated and robust response to combating maritime-related terrorism, weapons proliferation, transnational crime, piracy, environmental destruction and illegal seaborne immigration.

“USS Spruance’s deployment as part of US Northern Command’s southern border mission brings additional capability and expands the geography of unique military capabilities working with the Department of Homeland Security,” said Gen. Gregory Guillot, USNORTHCOM commander, in a statement.

Appeals Court Allows DOGE to Continue to Downsize USAID

The new ruling suspended a Maryland federal judge’s order to block the Trump administration’s efforts to pare down USAID operations.

A federal appeals court on March 28 put on hold a lower court order that blocked efforts led by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to downsize the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit issued an order around close of business on Friday stating that the preliminary injunction filed March 18 by Maryland-based U.S. District Judge Theodore Chuang “hereby is stayed pending the resolution of this appeal.”

In the new order, Judge A. Marvin Quattlebaum Jr. wrote that the Richmond, Virginia-based appeals court was granting the motion to block the lower court’s order because it is in the public interest.

The judge wrote that tech billionaire and adviser to the president Elon Musk and DOGE demonstrated they will likely prevail on the merits when the case is heard and that they would be “irreparably injured absent the stay.”

Quattlebaum also wrote that the 26 current and former employees or contractors of USAID who brought the lawsuit against Musk and DOGE will “not be injured because of the stay.”

The new order was entered after the appeals court
issued an emergency temporary stay of Chuang’s order on March 25 and then extended that stay on March 27.

An earthquake measuring 7.7 magnitude has killed at least 144 people in Burma. At least 10 died in the Thai capital, where a high-rise under construction collapsed.

The U.S. Geological Survey
said the epicenter of the earthquake—which was 6.2 miles deep—was close to the city of Mandalay in Burma (also known as Myanmar).

A dramatic video circulating on social media shows a high-rise building in Bangkok collapsing in a cloud of dust as construction workers run for their lives. Thailand’s defense minister says 101 people are missing and 10 were killed at three construction sites, including the high-rise.

The high-rise building was being built for the auditor general of the Thai government by the China Railway Construction Corporation.

In Burma, the military government has declared a state of emergency in six regions and states, including Mandalay and the capital, Naypyitaw.

It said on the Telegram messaging app, “The state will make inquiries on the situation quickly and conduct rescue operations along with providing humanitarian aid.”

Justices have been asked to stay lower court orders.

The Trump administration on March 28 asked the U.S. Supreme Court to intervene in a case involving President Donald Trump’s declaration of an invasion by a terrorist gang.

Administration lawyers asked justices to stay lower court orders, which would enable officials to resume deportations of illegal immigrants under a law called the Alien Enemies Act.

An appeals court on Wednesday
upheld a lower court order that prevents the administration from deporting members of the Tren de Aragua gang under Trump’s invocation, unless officials have another legitimate reason to do so, such as an administrative judge’s removal order.

“That order is forcing the United States to harbor individuals whom national-security officials have identified as members of a foreign terrorist organization bent upon grievously harming Americans,” lawyers for the government
told the Supreme Court on Friday.

The situation also “jeopardize[s] sensitive diplomatic negotiations and delicate national-security operations,” they added.

Trump
said in a recent proclamation that Tren de Aragua has been perpetrating “an invasion of and predatory incursion into the United States.” He directed officials to apprehend and deport members of the gang.

Our modern technological lifestyle has a lot going for it. For one thing, in the pre-internet era, which really wasn't all that long ago, I couldn't do what I'm doing for a living now, from where I am. Journalists in those days were confined to offices, produced their work on typewriters or the first generation of word-processors, and mostly got stories by sallying forth and talking to people. But now, in this wonderful, technological era we live in, I can quite literally have my cake and eat it too, staying abreast of global events - and keeping you dear readers apprised of those events - from my little Susitna Valley homestead, nestled in our peaceful stretch of Alaska woods.

It seems we've come a long way very quickly, doesn't it?

But growing up in the '60s and '70s, in the era before the internet and when mobile phones were the playthings of the very wealthy (unless your name was
Jim Rockford), things were very different. The internet was mostly on paper, and we called it "the press." There were three TV networks - and PBS. If we wanted to contact a buddy to arrange to meet up for some fishing or to go shoot pheasants, one had to stand in the kitchen and use the land-line phone mounted on the wall. Kids didn't have smartphones, and our attention span was probably better for it.

Some parents are
trying to take their kids back to those days.

Mothers across the globe are leading the charge for change. Two groups started by moms—Smartphone Free Childhood in the UK, and Wait Until (the end of) 8th in the U.S.—had already designed pledges for parents to support one another in delaying smartphones. These groups, along with dozens of other grassroots organizations (nearly all founded by mothers) were already doing great work, yet remained small and disconnected from each other. We helped amplify their efforts by gathering these groups onto a single webpage and directing traffic to them.

In most social movements, it takes decades and a great deal of advertising money for social norms to change, as happened with teen smoking and drunk driving. This movement is different.

It is different, in no small part because too many parents allowed the capture. My wife and I were fortunate in that our kids mostly grew up before the screen capture event; our youngest kids had flip phones when they graduated high school, but the smartphone phenomenon had not caught on yet.

Things have changed.

At lightning speed, we’ve seen parents of younger kids commit to delaying smartphones, and parents of older kids set new boundaries, swap smartphones for flip phones, and have meaningful conversations with their kids about the risks of online life. To take just one example: Smartphone Free Childhood began in early 2024 with a simple post by two British moms to a WhatsApp group. They were looking for other parents who shared their desire to delay smartphone access. By the end of the first week, they had 10,000 people, organized into 75 WhatsApp communities. In March 2025, they have over 300,000 parents and 29 offshoot groups in countries around the world.

And it's not just the hardware that is causing problems. It's the software - the apps - and the ease with which kids can hide their use of this endless, fire-hose stream of information.

Social media is wildly inappropriate for minors. The major platforms welcome anyone who is old enough to say that they are 13. They collect and sell children’s data, capture their attention for an average of five hours a day, and routinely expose them to sex, violence, and content that promotes suicide. Although an ideal minimum age would be 18, we chose 16 because it sets an age floor that could realistically emerge as a global norm.

It’s working.

Granted, I'd prefer this be a parental choice than a government edict that's frankly not enforceable. Smartphones and all the go with them are here to stay, and there's no getting around that. Parents need to do what needs to be done to protect their children, and in that, the answer seems obvious.

Alternatives. And all we need to do is look back a few decades.

Granted, I had the benefit of growing up mostly in a rural environment in northeast Iowa. In the summers, from about age 10 onward, my friends and I would roam the forested hills and trout streams of Allamakee County, fishing, swimming, or just exploring. The countryside was ours, and if a local farmer looked out his window and saw a couple of young lads crossing his pasture with fishing rods or .22 rifles, he would say, "Oh, I know those boys," and sit back down to finish his lunch.

We did this because, when we were younger, our parents took us fishing, swimming or just exploring.

My cousins and friends who lived in town played outdoors until the streetlights came on. They rode their bikes all over, without helmets or knee pads. Rural or suburban, all of us scraped our knees and elbows, we broke a bone or two, we got dirty, we got muddy, we came in and got yelled at for tracking on the rug.

Best of all, it was real. We weren't viewing fake events on a tiny screen. We were out, doing things, adventuring, learning how to deal with other people face-to-face. Now and then we disagreed, and now and then it led to a scrap, resulting in a few black eyes and split lips. We learned from it. We learned to deal with the bumps and scrapes one gets from falling out of a tree. We learned how to dry off our clothes after falling into the creek - and I can tell you I had a knack for that; I doubt there was a body of water in northeast Iowa I had not fallen into.

We learned. We adventured. We grew. And it was real.

HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. wants to take our kids back to that world, at
least in the schools. I'm not buying the cancer risk angle, but he's got a good point on social media, and in any case, the kids are there to learn, and should be paying attention to their instructors, not a tiny screen.

This isn't just an issue for kids. Some months back, while visiting our kids, we took them out for supper, and I observed, at a nearby table, what appeared to be a father with three daughters. They came in, ordered, ate, and left, with all four of them staring at their smartphones the entire time. None of them spoke, except to order food. They didn't interact with each other at all. I thought, "Why bother?"

Life needs to be real again. Technology is great, but it must be our servant, not our master. We can start with our kids, but we need to take a good look at ourselves as well. There's another great slogan for our time: MARA - Make America Real Again. Take your kids outdoors, and leave the smartphones at home. That's a good place to start.

THANK YOU.

US Office Focused on Shipbuilding Aims to Counter China’s Maritime Dominance

Commentary

Creating an office of U.S. shipbuilding to facilitate America’s return to being a true maritime power is long overdue and is necessary to counter China’s growing maritime dominance.

At the end of World War II, the United States had over 100 shipyards, and its flagged fleet, the largest in the world,
carried 57 percent of U.S. trade, while the majority of world trade was carried in U.S.-built ships.

Today, only about 0.2 percent of global commercial tonnage is being carried in ships built in the United States. Collectively, China, South Korea, and Japan build over 90 percent of the world’s large commercial ships. And with China building
over 50 percent of the world’s gross shipping tonnage, it is by far and away the world’s largest shipbuilder, with 232 times more shipbuilding capacity than the United States.

While the lack of commercial shipbuilding capacity is not the only reason we have seen the U.S. Navy decline in size and capability, it has created an environment that makes correcting the issues plaguing the Navy very difficult. Indeed, the lack of commercial shipbuilding is arguably the root cause of our Navy’s decline in readiness, its exploding ship costs, and its inability to hold vendors accountable when they deliver underperforming ships overbudget and years behind schedule.

Examples of underperforming, overbudget ships include the
Constellation-class frigate, the Littoral combat ship, the Ford-class carriers, and the massive Zumwalt destroyer. It is the failures in these key shipbuilding programs that has led to the decline of the U.S. Navy’s size and readiness. Moreover, the vendors associated with these failed and or grossly underperforming programs have at worst received a slap on the wrist and are collectively lined up to receive many hundreds of billions more in U.S. Defense contracts over the coming decades.
