It turns out that Russia has sown distrust in the U.S. political system—aided and abetted by the Democratic Party, and perhaps the FBI. This is an about-face from the dominant media narrative of the last year, and it requires a full investigation.

Cops ID suspected terrorist in deadly downtown truck rampage

The FBI and NYPD have launched a terror probe into the deadly incident in which a pickup truck driver fatally mowed down at least eight people in downtown Manhattan Tuesday afternoon, police sources said.
The truck driver — later identified as 29-year-old Sayfullo Saipov —plowed into several people along the West Side bike path and shouted “Allahu Akbar” after getting out of his vehicle, according to sources.
Saipov’s last known address was Tampa, Florida, according to public records.

The Trump administration intends to vote this week against a United Nations resolution condemning the U.S. economic embargo of Cuba, reversing an Obama administration position amid a period of heightened diplomatic tensions between Washington and Havana.
U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Nikki Haley will cast a “no” vote Wednesday against the non-binding resolution, which is taken up in the U.N. general assembly every year as an international expression of disapproval of the decades-long embargo. Last year, under Obama, the U.S. abstained from the vote as a part of the administration’s tentative rapprochement policy between Cold War adversaries.

200 feared dead after tunnel collapses at North Korean nuclear test site, Japanese TV claims

About 200 people are feared dead in North Korea after underground tunnels at a nuclear test site that was feared to be unstable reportedly collapsed, crushing 100 people in the initial cave-in and 100 others when the tunnels again gave way on top of rescuers.
The collapse at the Punggye-ri test site on Oct. 10 occurred while people were doing construction on the underground tunnel, Japan’s Asahi TV reported, citing a source in North Korea. The television station also said North Korea’s sixth nuclear test on Sept. 3 most likely caused the tunnel to crumble and created serious damage in the region.
No officials have confirmed the Japanese TV station’s claims, but experts have feared for more than a month that the test site was on the verge of crumbling since the nuclear blast. North Korea said it detonated a hydrogen bomb, calling it a “perfect success.” It was the country’s most powerful bomb tested to date and the blast was reportedly 10 times more powerful than the nuclear bomb that was dropped over Hiroshima at the end of World War II.

Judge Jeanine slammed Democrats' involvement in the Russia dossier used to smear President Trump during the campaign, saying it is time to "lock up" Hillary Clinton.
Last week new reports surfaced that Hillary Clinton's campaign and the Democratic National Committee paid an opposition research firm for the controversial and salacious document.
Special Counsel and former FBI Director Robert Mueller must be fired, and all involved in the scandal investigated, Judge Jeanine said.
"This has been a charade."
Pirro pointed out that the media have accused Donald Trump's campaign of colluding with Russia, but the tables seem to be turning.
"The whole time they were the ones lying. They were the ones making it up. They were the ones cutting the deals and collecting the cash," she said.
"This dossier was used not only to smear the president," she explained. "It was used to create a special counsel. It was the basis for congressional hearings, the reason for wall to wall anti-President Trump coverage."
If the dossier was also used as the reason for further investigation, wiretaps, unmasking, and FISA warrants, then any results of that are "illegal and unusable," she said.

In the dangerous push to end our current bail system, liberals like Zuckerberg are arguing that people across America are being wrongly held in jail because they can’t afford to post bail. This is ridiculous. Our bail system is in place to keep law-abiding Americans safe and to ensure that a person accused of a crime actually appears in court so justice is served.

FINALLY, A Definitive Timeline Showing When Clinton, DNC Started The Russian Dossier

There has been much confusion in the media — and thereby, the public — about who funded the infamous Trump dossier. Some outlets have incorrectly reported that Republicans began financing the dossier before the Clinton campaign and Democratic National Committee took over last Spring.
But that is incorrect. Democrats are solely responsible for the dossier, which was passed around by their research firm, Fusion GPS, to Beltway reporters and select lawmakers during the heat of the presidential campaign.
Here is the definitive timeline of how it all transpired.
Oct. 2015: It was reported late Friday that the Washington Free Beacon, a conservative website funded by GOP mega-donor Paul Singer, hired Fusion GPS to investigate Trump. Free Beacon’s editor said Friday that the research was standard opposition research and that it was not tied to the dossier work that would follow several months later. It is not clear what, if anything, Singer knew about Free Beacon’s hiring of Fusion. The hedge fund manager was Florida Sen. Marco Rubio’s biggest backer.
Feb. 20, 2016: Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush drops from the Republican primary.
March: Fusion GPS approached Perkins Coie, the law firm for the Clinton campaign and Democratic National Committee. Perkins Coie general counsel revealed this week that Fusion offered to continue Trump opposition research it had started while working for a Republican candidate.
March 15: Florida Sen. Marco Rubio drops from the Republican primary after losing to Trump in his home state.
April: Perkins Coie, using money from the Clinton campaign and DNC, hires Fusion GPS. Marc Elias, a Perkins Coie partner and general counsel for both the campaign and DNC, would serve as the bagman.
That month, Federal Election Commission records show that the Clinton campaign paid Perkins Coie a total of $150,000 for legal services. The DNC paid the firm around $107,000. It is unclear how much of that went to Fusion GPS. Both the campaign and DNC would pay Perkins Coie hundreds of thousands more dollars throughout the campaign.

The revelation that Hillary Clinton’s campaign and the Democratic National Committee (DNC) helped fund an explosive dossier about President Trump has roiled the investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election.
Republicans are on the offensive, claiming the new funding revelations as evidence the investigations into whether there was collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia were fixed against them from the start. Democrats are trying to keep the focus on the contents of the memo and say it doesn’t matter who paid for it.
The saga took another bizarre twist on Friday when the conservative news outlet Washington Free Beacon said it paid the same opposition research firm used by the Democrats for dirt on Trump and other GOP candidates about six months earlier.

The House Intelligence Committee said Saturday it has struck a deal to gain access to bank records from Fusion GPS, the firm behind the salacious anti-Trump dossier.
The company had recently attempted to block the committee’s subpoena for its banking records.
“The parties have reached an agreement related to the House Intelligence Committee's subpoena for Fusion GPS's bank records that will secure the Committee's access to the records necessary for its investigation,” the intelligence committee said in a statement released Saturday.
Lawmakers for months have been trying to investigate the origin of the salacious anti-Trump dossier, which claimed the Russian government had compromising material on President Trump. It was provided to journalists and the FBI last year, when Trump was still a Republican candidate.

One of Australia’s top doctors in cancer fight

AT THE beginning of this year one of Australia’s top doctors picked up the phone and made a rather difficult booking: Her own grave.
She was only 49 years old, she was at the height of her professional powers and she had a loving husband and three beautiful kids.
However she had given herself just three months to live.
In fact she was literally planning her own funeral, right down to the burial spot — next to her mother in the cemetery.
And that is just the first of so many unfair things about this story.
Nghi Phung should be the poster girl for everything that is great about Australia. She came here as a refugee from Vietnam when she was just 10 years old, the eldest of five kids with another two cousins to boot. They all stayed in a camp for nine months while her parents scraped together $2,000 to try to find a place to rent.
But, perhaps unsurprisingly, no landlord wanted to lease to a family with seven children. It turns out there are three constants in life: death, taxes and the Sydney property market.
Then, in a twist of fate straight out of a Dickens novel, they stumbled across a vendor who was prepared to take the $2,000 as a deposit for a three bedroom house that was on the market for $28,000. I guess maybe the Sydney property market does change after all.
So there they were: The two parents in one bedroom, the two cousins in another and the five brothers and sisters all in the third.
A year later, Nghi, pronounced “Nee”, had won a place in the selective Fort St High School, paving the way for all her siblings to do the same. While her English skills were terrible, she was brilliant at maths. The selectors thought they saw something special and they were right.
Two decades later Nghi was trailblazing again, becoming a specialist in gastroenterology, an incredibly competitive field of medicine that was traditionally a bit of a boys club but for the first time in Nghi’s year a majority of women entered the field. She was part of that historic class of 1997.
Now for most doctors one specialty is enough but again, this is no ordinary doctor. Nghi saw that many of the problems she was seeing as a gastroenterologist had begun long before the patient got to her. Liver disease caused by alcoholism, Hepatitis C caused by intravenous drug use.
And so, instead of being the ambulance parked at the bottom of the cliff, Nghi decided to go to the top and try to stop these diseases before they occurred.
Thus she then acquired her second specialty: Addiction medicine. She would treat people for the problems that caused the diseases instead of the diseases themselves.
Associate Professor Nghi Phung ultimately became the Director of Drug Health at Western Sydney Local Health District and an Addiction Medicine Specialist at Westmead Hospital.
It made her, she confessed, a bit of a nag. She was always warning friends and patients alike of the dangers of addiction — and not just drugs and alcohol but the deadliest addiction of all: Smoking.
And so it came as something of a surprise earlier this year when she found out she had stage four lung cancer — and a type of lung cancer explicitly associated with smoking. Not only had she devoted her life to saving others from such things, she had never touched a cigarette in her life.

Cancer is always cruel. It is horrible, life-changing and all too often tragic.
But there is an added layer of cruelty when it is also humiliating. It is almost unthinkable these days for a cancer sufferer to be blamed for their disease but for people with lung cancer that is the stigma they feel. That they deserve it, that they always had it coming.
And Lord knows that is bad enough for the poor old smokers. Imagine how those who have lung cancer but never smoked feel?
In fact we don’t have to imagine. Research released Thursday by the Lung Foundation reveals almost a quarter of lung disease sufferers feel shame, guilt or fear of being discriminated against and over 40 per cent feel stigmatised.
Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in this country, killing one Australian every hour — more than breast and prostate cancer combined. Yet it has a fraction of the sympathy or awareness.
And 40 per cent of Australians say the first question they would ask someone diagnosed with lung cancer – “without first expressing concern” – is if they were a smoker. In fact one in three women and one in 10 men with lung cancer have never smoked. Despite this almost 90 per cent of Australians think smoking is the only risk factor.
To be honest, this is completely understandable. Smoking is incredibly dumb and of course increases your risk of lung cancer astronomically – and I say this as someone who smoked for more than 20 years.
But for people like Nghi, she actually wishes people would ask her if she was a smoker just so she could tell them no.
The greatest embarrassment comes when she presents in a hospital emergency department and even medical staff just assume she brought it on herself – or at least so she feels. It’s a tough journey to go from one of the country’s best doctors to just another patient.
“For people who don’t know me, say at the hospital counter where I come in not as a doctor but as a patient, I’ll say I’ve got lung cancer and I feel like I have to actually follow by saying I’ve never smoked,” she tells me.
And yes, she’s still alive.
“That’s it – the embarrassment of having lung cancer. You roll up to emergency departments. They may not really know whether you smoke or not but they will probably have some form of judgment in line with what the community thinks and that’s where I feel quite awkward.”
Even more conflicted is when she walks through the ubiquitous scene of patients and visitors puffing away outside a hospital. Part of her knows that being in hospital is incredibly stressful and that of course makes people reach for a cigarette. The other part of her wonders if some of that secondhand smoke might have contributed to her own disease or that of countless others.
And so when we talk this week, as she faces the unthinkable prospect of not seeing her own children grow up, she is desperate to get two seemingly conflicting messages across: Don’t assume that all people with lung cancer smoke but for the love of God can people please stop smoking. And they’re actually not contradictory at all for anyone with half a lung or half a brain.

As for Nghi herself, she is busy trying to prepare the world for a time in which she no longer exists. Even in death she will be an overachiever.
In her treatment and research she has focused on training people to replace her so the work can continue and with her husband, an engineer, she is developing a revolutionary new technology to help patients get their test results faster. Her own future has been stolen yet she still devotes herself to the future of others.
She is all the inspirational clichés that move us to tears but medicine is no place for bullshit and Nghi has no time for it. Literally no time.
After all she has done for everybody else the treatments for her simply haven’t worked. Immunotherapy was no good, radiotherapy is done and the last course of chemo runs out at the end of the year. Barring a miracle, the outlook is inevitable.
“After Christmas I’ve kind of run out of options,” she says.
“There’s nothing really on the horizon that’s available for standard treatments.”
Like I said, nothing about this story is fair.
But she doesn’t fear death, at least not for herself. She is sorry she won’t be there for those moments the kids will want her and need her but she is proud she got to see her eldest son graduate from high school — just as she blitzed through it a generation ago.
When Nghi was first diagnosed with advanced lung cancer the doctor gave her three to 12 months to live. That was nine months ago.
Still, being nothing if not a go-getter, she assumed she had only three and got busy. That’s when she booked her own burial plot.
“I actually rang up the cemetery and asked to be next to my mother,” she laughed as she told me yesterday.
“After a few months they rang back and said: ‘How are you going? Are you ready?’”
Unfortunately they will have to wait. She’s not ready yet.

U.S. Defense Secretary Jim Mattis issued a stern warning to North Korea on Saturday: Despite its ongoing missile and nuclear programs, it is simply no match for the U.S.-South Korea alliance.
“Make no mistake,” Mattis said during a news conference in Seoul, “any attack on the United States or our allies will be defeated, and any use of nuclear weapons by the North will be met with a massive military response that is effective and overwhelming.”
During the joint appearance with South Korean Defense Minister Song Young-moo, Mattis acknowledged that the threat of a nuclear missile attack by North Korea was accelerating.
The CIA says North Korea could be just months away from being capable of hitting the U.S. with a nuclear strike, Reuters reported.

Washington Free Beacon funded original Fusion GPS anti-Trump opposition effort

Lawyers for the conservative publication Washington Free Beacon informed the House Intelligence Committee Friday that the organization was the original funder for the anti-Trump opposition research project with Fusion GPS.
The Free Beacon funded the project from the fall of 2015 through the spring of 2016, whereupon it withdrew funding and the project was picked up by the Democratic National Committee and the Hillary Clinton campaign.

The original arrangement between the Free Beacon and Fusion GPS involved opposition research into multiple Republican candidates, not just front-runner Donald Trump.

Hillary Clinton’s campaign didn’t just pay for the Kremlin-aided smear job on Donald Trump before the election; she continued to use the dirt after the election to frame her humiliating loss as a Russian conspiracy to steal the election.
Bitter to the core, she and her campaign aides hatched a scheme, just 24 hours after conceding the race, to spoon-feed the dirty rumors to an eager liberal media and manufacture the narrative that Russia secretly colluded with her neophyte foe to sabotage her coronation.
But it was Hillary who was trying to kneecap Trump, even after he licked her, fair and square, in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Michigan and other blue states.

Spam, once just an annoyance, is becoming downright dangerous.
In 2004, Bill Gates said “two years from now, spam will be solved.” That never happened. And while the spam rate saw a steady decline after 2011, there has been an recent uptick as the maliciousness of spam has increased.
In the first half of 2017, the spam rate reached 54 percent, after bottoming out at 53 percent for both 2015 and 2016 with “all signs point to a continuation of this upward trajectory,” software security giant Symantec said in an October 2017 internet security report.

Headlines about left-wing college students engaging in radical, sometimes racially charged protests are becoming all too common.
In October 2016, students at University of California, Berkeley created a human chain in an attempt to block white students from going to class.
This past May, students at Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington demanded – in the name of racial equity – that white students stay home from school for a day. These students shouted down faculty who disagreed with them, and the dispute led to multiple protests that eventually forced the college to hold its commencement ceremony 30 miles away from campus.
These stories are outrageous, but unfortunately, nothing new. Universities have been a hotbed for left-wing activism for decades. In fact, Ronald Reagan ran for Governor of California in 1966 promising to crack down on the rioting and radicalism at Berkeley.
This sudden decline in performance is what happens when educators think it is their job to impose their political views on students.

Maybe you’re overwhelmed by news and notifications. Maybe you’re depressed to have missed out on something. Maybe you’re anxious about the fact the carefully curated highlight reels of other people’s lives seem sparklier than your own.
You’re not alone.
A study from the United States claims to have proved something you’ve known all along: the more time you spend on Facebook, the worse you feel.
Facebook’s homepage promises to help “connect and share with the people in your life” and almost two billion people use the platform every month.
However, research by Holly Shakya, from the University of California, and Nicholas Christakis, from Yale University, says interacting with the service can decrease a person’s mental wellbeing by as much as eight per cent.
It’s the first study to actually quantify the effect of Facebook on everyday life.

Department of Justice says informant will be available to answer questions for congressional committees.
The Justice Department said Wednesday night that it had lifted a gag order on a former FBI informant involved in a high-profile Russia bribery case, clearing the individual to speak to Congress about Moscow’s Obama-era efforts to gain access to U.S. uranium reserves and other schemes.
In a statement, the department said it had authorized the informant to speak to the leaders of the Senate Judiciary Committee, House Oversight Committee, and the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, in addition to select staffers.
The department said the informant could provide “any information or documents he has concerning alleged corruption or bribery involving transactions in the uranium market,” including Russian company Rosatom, subsidiary Tenex, Uranium One and the Clinton Foundation.
