We've seen regular mainstream media losing their minds when it comes to Elon Musk.

I wrote about the meltdown that a CNN panel had with him being at Mar-a-Lago for Thanksgiving. It was next-level nuts, with one panelist calling it "creepy." "This is scary stuff," she claimed, saying Musk had no business having any government contracts.

As we reported, the Axios CEO freaked out about Musk, saying that X was the media now.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau flew down to Mar-a-Lago on Friday to kiss Donald Trump’s ring after the president-elect threatened to impose tariffs on our neighbors to the north. The president-elect has been unhappy with Canada's lame efforts to stop illegal immigration, among other issues. The meeting went well, according to both leaders.

Here’s a photo circulating showing a triumphant Trump sitting next to the leftist Canadian:

Special counsel Jack Smith may not be in the clear, even after dropping all charges against President-elect Donald Trump.

Smith’s decision to dismiss his cases against Trump on Monday reignited calls for an investigation into his efforts. While it’s unclear if probing Smith is high enough on Trump’s priority list to translate talk into action, some aren’t ready to simply brush Smith’s months-long pursuit aside now that the threat is gone.

Investigating the federal prosecutions against Trump is important “because of the huge cost and ultimate failure,” former federal prosecutor Andrew Cherkasky told the Daily Caller News Foundation.

“Whether that yields findings of criminality is unlikely. However, I think it will find that Smith’s novel legal approach was fraught with issues that should have led a reasonable prosecutor to decline prosecution,”

Cherkasky told the DCNF. “Smith is already leaving his special counsel post, but I anticipate some of the lawyers working under him will also be forced out of the [Department of Justice] DOJ for engaging in a legally unsound prosecution.” Smith’s two Trump prosecutions cost taxpayers upwards of $50 million, according to DOJ
reports. (RELATED: Judge Grants Jack Smith’s Request To Dismiss Case Against Trump)

“There is a lot of evidence that the congressional Jan. 6 committee intentionally avoided evidence beneficial to Trump’s position, and if Smith did the same, his conduct could be grounds for more severe consequences,” Cherkasky noted.

The Heritage Oversight Project
posted on X Monday that they are preparing a “model indictment” of Smith. Executive Director Mike Howell suggested Smith could be charged under the federal law prohibiting a conspiracy to violate an individual’s civil rights, but told the DCNF there are “other potential avenues as well.”

“Jack Smith and his office must face severe legal, political, and financial consequences for their blatant lawfare and election interference,” Article III Project President Mike Davis like wrote Monday on X. “This includes a federal criminal probe for conspiracy against rights under 18 U.S.C. § 241.”

One of Smith’s
charges against Trump was brought under the same conspiracy against rights statute.

OPINION

CRUMPTON: Trump Should Follow Through And Form An Assassinations Commission

Matt Crumpton
Contributor
November 27, 2024 2:09 PM ET

Now that Donald Trump has been re-elected, he should use the power of the presidency to follow through on what he said he would do: form a commission on assassinations. The commission should investigate the assassinations of President John F. Kennedy, Sen. Robert F. Kennedy and the attempt on Trump himself in Butler, Pennsylvania.

Each of these historical events have unanswered questions that could be resolved once and for all with an independent investigative commission. For the assassinations of the Kennedy brothers, the American people have waited far too long for resolution of the conflicting evidence. For the Trump attempt, the question of whether Thomas Crooks had any assistance must be definitively established.

This commission should be empowered to issue subpoenas for documents and depositions. It should bring in experts on both sides of any competing issue. In the end, the commission should provide a written report on all three assassination attempts, similar to the House Select Committee on Assassinations in 1978 – which, incidentally, found that President Kennedy was
“probably assassinated as the result of a conspiracy.

When it comes to President Kennedy, the commission should be empowered to follow through on the work of the Assassination Records Review Board and force the government agencies still holding these files to either declassify, or to provide a legal basis for why the document should be classified and a date for revisiting its status.

While
President Trump and President Biden both released thousands of documents during their administrations, neither of them followed through on the JFK Records Act. The Act, passed in 1992 in the wake of Oliver Stone’s film about the assassination, mandates specific rules and timelines for releasing the still classified documents from JFK’s murder over 60 years ago.

In October of 2017, instead of releasing the documents in compliance with the Act, President Trump punted the document releases into the future past their due date,
relying on legally questionable memoranda written by the Justice Department. Later, President Biden took the DOJ’s delaying and noncompliance tactics a step further, and essentially deferred the decision of whether to release documents to the agencies that hold them – including the Central Intelligence Agency. In other words, the JFK Records Act has been ignored by the executive branch and made impotent. The creation of a new commission could reverse that trend.

It’s no wonder that “conspiracy theories” have developed when there is evidence to support such theories, and the evidence does not receive a hearing. For the American people to have faith in their institutions, especially intelligence agencies, these matters need to be definitively resolved.

After all, the government’s position on the JFK Assassination is that Lee Harvey Oswald was a lone nut. If that is true, then there should be no reason to withhold any government documents related to President Kennedy’s death, especially 61 years later. To reasonable observers in the United States and abroad, the continued classification of these documents so many years after the fact implies that the intelligence agencies have something to hide.

Similarly, we are told that the RFK assassination and the Butler attempt on Trump were by lone gunmen, without the assistance of others. Thus, any information that any government agencies have related to those attempts should also be brought to light by this commission.

President Trump must make it a priority to create this new commission during the first year of his administration. The end result could be that some conspiracy theories are proven to be false and we restore faith in government. Or, it could be that government or other third party wrongdoing is uncovered, leading to the offending entities receiving the appropriate punishment. We will never know until we review all of the now-available facts (and obtain the rest of the classified records that have not been destroyed).

Given how much evidence there is that the official story is wrong in all of these cases, but especially the JFK assassination, forming a commission is worth the time and effort to find out what really happened in Dealey Plaza, at the Ambassador Hotel and in Butler, Pennsylvania.

Bold & Blunt: Jack Smith called Obama’s ‘enforcer’

Jack Smith may be leaving behind his many, many prosecutorial persecutions of President-elect Donald Trump. But he leaves behind a trail of destruction.

To at least of his targets, he’s known as Barack Obama’s “enforcer.”

Steve Stockman, former congressman, spent years in jail due to a Smith-led prosecution — a prosecution that came curiously enough after Stockman launched an investigation into Obama.

“We started investigating Obama’s dealings with Iran and other circumstances that raised the ire of Obama,” Stockman says. “We did a lot of things [in Congress] to get him upset. The bottom line is Obama is very vindictive and Jack Smith is basically his enforcer.”

Trump, during his White House term, commuted Stockman’s sentence and he was released from prison early, serving three of a ten-year sentence. But his life today is far from normal. He can’t vote; he can’t own guns; he can’t even say for certain that Smith won’t one day mount another judicial attack against him. Two weeks before the election, in fact, Stockman says he received more threatening papers from the Department of Justice.

“Just two weeks before the election the DOJ issued papers trying to get me back in prison,” he says.

Then Trump won — and it all went away.

For now.

Stockman’s story is one that’s shared by many of Smith’s prosecutorial targets.

COMMENTARY

By Charles Hurt - The Washington Times - Monday, November 25, 2024

OPINION:

The fever has broken.

Trump Derangement Syndrome has run its course, and America is on the road to a speedy recovery in time for Thanksgiving dinner.

Democrats and the political press have only come more unhinged as President-elect
Donald Trump has gotten closer to returning to the White House. They compare him to Hitler and accuse his supporters of being racist and “semi-fascist” — whatever that means.

American voters had other plans, resulting in Mr.
Trump’s convincing rout in the election earlier this month. Mr. Trump made a clean sweep of the Upper Midwest swing states and moved even the bluest states, such as California, New York and Illinois, more than 10 points in his favor from 2020.

And new polling shows that voters are eager to move on from the election and embrace Mr. Trump’s commonsense approach to the issues most important to them.

Parents, not the government, should be the primary decision-makers regarding what children should be doing, viewing, or interacting with. But clearly, Australia doesn't see it that way, as they have passed a law effectively banning children under 16 from social media access.

Australians reacted on Friday with a mixture of anger and relief to a social media ban on children under 16 that the government says is world-leading, but which tech giants like TikTok argue could push young people to "darker corners of the internet".

Australia approved the social media ban for children late on Thursday after an emotive debate that has gripped the nation, setting a benchmark for jurisdictions around the world with one of the toughest regulations targeting Big Tech.

The law forces tech giants from Instagram and Facebook owner Meta Platforms (META.O) to TikTok to stop minors from logging in or face fines of up to A$49.5 million ($32 million). A trial of enforcement methods will start in January, with the ban to take effect in a year.

"Platforms now have a social responsibility to ensure the safety of our kids is a priority for them," Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said on Friday

Here's the thing: It won't work. This law is much akin to trying to bail out a sinking boat with a sieve. Kids will find a way around this ban, and the primary effect this law will have will be to create an entirely new subculture of hackers (or whatever they call people like that these days) that will be finding ways around these bans. Australia has initiated a software arms race that will only escalate — and may well draw more kids into social media.

As we noted, the Harris campaign team went on "Pod Save America" and seemed to be singularly clueless about why they lost. They kept coming up with wild excuses, like somehow the media was mean and faulting them for not doing interviews, and they didn't have time to do Joe Rogan, despite having time to do other far less high-profile interviews and events. They couldn't seem to take any responsibility for their own failures.

Then, when Kamala Harris and Tim Walz spoke to their donors and grassroots supporters, they sounded very self-congratulatory. There seemed to be no reflection on how they could improve things, as DNC operative Lindy Li said.

Several of President-elect Donald Trump’s Cabinet were targeted by “bomb threats” and “swatting” attempts on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, a Trump spokeswoman said.

In a statement issued on social media, Trump transition team spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt said that unnamed Cabinet nominees and administration officials were subjected to “violent, un-American threats to their lives and those who live with them.”

Leavitt said that law enforcement officials acted quickly to mitigate the problem, but didn’t provide further details.

“President Trump and the entire transition team are grateful for their swift action,” she said, referring to law enforcement officials.

The FBI, in a statement later Wednesday, said it is aware of swatting incidents and bomb threats targeting Trump nominees and appointees.

One of the most-prescribed drugs in the United States for older adults has been linked to bone loss in a new study, officials said Monday.

Researchers with the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine
found in their study that levothyroxine, a synthetic hormone often used to treat hypothyroidism, may be associated with bone loss, a disease that weakens bones and causes them to be more likely to break. Common brand names for levothyroxine include Synthroid, Unithroid, and Tirosint.

About 23 million Americans, or around 7 percent of the entire U.S. population, take the medication on a daily basis, according to a news release issued by the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA), which announced the findings of the study that will be presented at the society’s annual meeting in December.

It’s the second-most prescribed medication for older adults in the country, the release said. An
article from the Yale School of Medicine in 2023 also noted that around 23 million people take levothyroxine, “making it one of the most prescribed drugs in the country.”

The Johns Hopkins authors linked the usage of levothyroxine to a higher degree of loss in bone density and bone mass over a more than six-year period, even in adults who have normal thyroid function.

NEWS AND OPINION:

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott and incoming border czar Tom Homan thanked and served meals to hundreds of Texas National Guard soldiers, Texas Department of Public Safety troopers, and its director, Steve McCraw, plus other service members stationed along the southern U.S. border near the towns of Eagle Pass and Edinburg.

Also in attendance: Paul Perez, National Border Patrol Council president; Maj. Gen. Thomas Suelzer, Texas adjutant general; and
Mike Banks, Texas border czar.

“You are essential to keep Texas sovereign, secure, and safe,” Mr. Abbott told his audience at the event, which took place Tuesday.

“Someone has to stand up for the rule of law, and the people who do that are the men and women of the Texas National Guard and the Texas Department of Public Safety. This mission is critical to our future. I have never been more proud of what you all have stepped up to do. During this time of
Thanksgiving, we as Texans and Americans at the top of our list have thanks for you and the job you are doing today,” Mr. Abbott said.

“You cannot have strong national security if you do not have border security,” Mr. Homan told the group.

“There is unprecedented success in Texas. This is the model we can take across the country. Everyone here needs to understand that you are national heroes and are saving the nation. What you have done has not only protected Texas and the citizens of Texas, you are protecting this nation,” he said.

After their early
Thanksgiving meal in Eagle Pass, Mr. Abbott and Mr. Homan received an intelligence briefing, then took an aerial tour over the Eagle Pass area, including razor-wire barriers and storage containers to deter and repel illegal immigration.

The FBI and DOJ’s ‘politically motivated’ persecution of a former informant — all to protect the Bidens

One of the most disturbing scandals of the Hunter Biden saga is the imprisonment without trial of former FBI informant Alexander Smirnov.

The Ukrainian-born Israeli-American, who once told his FBI handler about Ukrainian claims of a $10 million bribe to the Bidens, has been languishing in a Los Angeles prison for nine months on charges that he lied to the FBI.

Last week, federal prosecutors slapped new tax-evasion charges on Smirnov, 43, which suggests they know their original indictment is too weak for a jury to convict him when he faces trial beginning Jan. 8.

Rep. Malliotakis to Newsmax: Trump Will Protect US

By Charlie McCarthy | Thursday, 28 November 2024 10:45 AM EST

President-elect Donald Trump's conversation with Mexico's president will lead to real change in dealing with the migrant crisis at the southern border, Rep. Nicole Malliotakis, R-N.Y., told Newsmax on Thursday morning.

Trump said that Mexico President Claudia Sheinbaum had agreed to "stop" migration in talks Wednesday, effectively closing the southern U.S. border, in claims that
appeared to go further than his counterpart's account of a discussion about migration "strategy."

While appearing on "
Wake Up America," Malliotakis was asked whether Americans will see real change at the border despite the slightly different takes on the presidents' conversation.

"Yeah, absolutely," Malliotakis told co-hosts Sharla McBride and Jon Glasgow. "I think that President Trump is sending a clear message to everyone around the world that he's going to do what it takes to protect America's national security and to protect the American people who are dying from fentanyl.

"And it's a clear message that has not been sent for four years sadly, under the Biden-Harris administration. And I think you're seeing these countries leaders react."

In less than two months, thousands of new Trump administration employees and officials with descend on the Washington D.C. area as part of President-elect Donald Trump's second term. They're ready to get to work and they'll need a place to live.

Virginia's Republican Governor Glenn Youngkin is taking advantage of the opportunity and welcoming Trump transplants to make their homes on the Freedom Side of the River.

"Virginia is right across the Potomac, we offer a great quality of life. Safe communities. Award winning schools where parents matter. Lower taxes than D.C. or Maryland. It's why so many people choose Virginia as the best place to live, work and raise a family," Youngkin said in a video posted on X.

To all the new members of @realDonaldTrump’s administration relocating to the area to make America great again, I am personally inviting you to make Virginia your home. pic.twitter.com/pAkwkoWurR

November 26, 2024

In the final days of his 2024 campaign, Trump held a rally in Salem, Virginia where he praised Youngkin's efforts in the state to clean up voter rolls and bolster election integrity at the ballot box.

"You have a great governor in this state. He did a great job -- and your attorney general, the whole group. Thank you, Glenn. What a job. So, a very special hello to Virginia. I know it well, to put it mildly. And I'm thrilled to be back in this beautiful commonwealth with thousands of proud, hardworking American patriots," Trump said.

Trump Jokes About Running for Third Term -- Dems Freak Out

Larry Elder | Nov 28, 2024

President-elect Donald Trump recently joked with House Republicans and said: "I suspect I won't be running again, unless you do something. Unless you say, 'He's so good, we have to just figure it out.'"

Rep. Dan Goldman (D-N.Y.), who served as lead counsel for one of Trump's impeachments, fretted: "It's the same thing now (about a third term). This is how Donald Trump operates. He floats it, he normalizes it, and then it just becomes part of the common parlance."

Memo to Goldman: Even if Trump were serious, there is a bit of a speed bump. It's called the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution. It says, "No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice." So, if you're keeping score, Trump has maxed out. And given that Trump insists he actually won in 2020, he's really maxed out.

Of course, the Constitution can be amended, something that occurs on average every 10 years. Congress could start the process. But an amendment requires a two-thirds vote in the House, where Republicans have a majority by just a few seats, and in the Senate, where Republicans hold a 53-47 lead. Then three-fourths of the states would have to approve. The second way to amend the Constitution requires two-thirds of state legislatures to call for a convention to propose amendments. This has never happened. But, hey, fascists find a way.

To completely, totally and forever shut down a Trump third term, Goldman proposed a resolution stipulating the 22nd Amendment "applies to two terms in the aggregate as President of the United States" and it "applies to President-elect Trump." It's hard to get clearer than the clear language of the 22nd Amendment. But fascists find a way.

Here's Why Mark Zuckerberg Had Dinner With Trump At Mar-a-Lago

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg met with President-elect Donald Trump at his Mar-a-Lago residence to seemingly brown-nose the soon-to-be commander-in-chief to reportedly be a part of Trump’s revolutionary change in the United States.

Despite lying to Congress about censoring conservatives, Zuckerberg visited Trump’s Palm Beach, Florida home on Wednesday to be a part of his “reform movement” that the incoming administration is leading.

Trump adviser Stephen Miller confirmed Trump and Zuckerberg’s meeting, saying that the Facebook founder views Trump's second term as a chance at "national renewal” in the country. He said that although Zuckerberg has his own company and his own agenda, he “understands that President Trump is an agent of change, an agent of prosperity.”

NEW: Stephen Miller has confirmed that Mark Zuckerberg went to meet with Trump at Mar-a-Lago today.

America Still Loves Ronald Reagan - 'Reagan' Film Going Gangbusters

In 1980, I was released from a three-year sentence to something called "high school," which had been seriously cutting into my hunting, fishing, and woods-bumming time. But during that sentence, all three years, I was on our high school newspaper, and in my last year, I was made Opinion Editor, which was a lot like giving a maniac a loaded gun — I had a lot of fun, but it also made me more politically-aware than I had been. That was when I started my habit of challenging my assumptions, of digging into issues more deeply than I suspect most people do, and that was also when I started forming some of the opinions and principles that I still hold now, almost half a century later.

And that summer, I marched into the Reagan campaign offices in Cedar Falls, Iowa, and volunteered to help. Granted, all they let a fired-up 18-year-old kid do was hand out flyers, buttons, and bumper stickers, but I did that with aplomb, and in November, I marched into the voting booth for the first time and cast my ballot for Ronald Reagan. I never regretted that vote. Reagan was one of the most consequential presidents of the 20th century and was legitimately a great man, and now we see that the Dennis Quaid film about Reagan is
blowing up home sales.

The film “Reagan” has surged to the top of the home sales charts following President-elect Donald Trump’s victory on Nov. 5.

“Reagan” was listed as #2 on Amazon’s Best Sellers list overall Monday for DVD, Blu-ray and digital download sales, having been No. 1 over the weekend, the movie’s publicist said.

The team that created “Reagan” cited similarities between the two Republican giants and the synergies between Trump’s successful campaign and the movie that retells the life story of Reagan, a popular two-term president and previously a Hollywood actor.

I'm not sure how much President-elect Trump's (you know) reelection victory has influenced these sales. There are some similarities between the two: Both were in show business, both wielded some controversial opinions, and both were not afraid to buck the prevalent opinions of the Washington establishment. But while Donald Trump entered politics in 2015 when he came down that golden escalator to announce his run for president, Ronald Reagan had already had a career in politics before running for president — including two terms as governor of California. There are differences in style, as well:

Poll: Democrats Lack the Motivation to Oppose Trump

Rebecca Downs | November 25, 2024 7:00 PM

AP Photo/Alex Brandon

As Townhall has been covering throughout Monday, a CBS News/YouGov poll was released over the weekend showing particularly good news for President-elect Donald Trump, as Americans approve of his transition and the nominees he's put forth to fill his Cabinet. The poll findings aren't just full of hopeful signs for Trump as he gets ready to start his second term, but bad news for Democrats as well. Further, it turns out that there are other polls out there showing bad signs as well, after the Democratic Party faced catastrophic losses earlier this month.

One part
of the poll examined how Americans feel following Trump's win, and compared to how they felt in 2016 when he was elected for the first time. More than half, at 54 percent, of Republicans say they feel "excited" when it comes to what Trump will do as president, while 50 percent of Democrats say they're "scared." When it comes to how they feel about Trump's win, 68 percent of Republicans say they're "happy," while close to a majority of Democrats, at 48 percent, say they're "angry." Another 37 percent of Democrats say they're "dissatisfied."

This time, Republicans are more excited than they were in 2016, while Democrats claim to be even more scared. As the poll's write-up highlighted:

Overall, Republicans today are more excited about what Trump will do as president now than they were in 2016 when he was first elected.

Democrats say they feel more scared about what Trump might do than they did in 2016, and a large majority of Democrats think as president he will threaten their rights and freedoms. But at the same time, there seems to be a sense of exhaustion, as fewer than half of Democrats feel motivated to oppose Trump right now.

Americans, and Democrats specifically, do think the Biden administration should work with the incoming Trump administration to ensure a smooth transition, and that congressional Democrats should work with Donald Trump on issues where they find common ground.

Trump’s Most Notable Accomplishment

President Donald J. Trump’s first term in office included many accomplishments. The economy was strong, the border was secure, America was energy independent, and the world was a much safer place. While these and other accomplishments made America a wonderful place to live, Trump’s biggest and most important accomplishment was his decision to fight back against the politicized indictments brought against him by a weaponized Department of Justice and various left-wing prosecutors.

Charles Augustus Lindbergh, an American aviator, author, and military officer, once said, “Success is not measured by what a man accomplishes, but by the opposition he has encountered and the courage with which he has maintained the struggle against overwhelming odds.”

While Lindbergh made this comment long before Trump was even in the picture, his words are particularly meaningful today. After all, no former president has ever been indicted on four separate occasions while running for reelection. While it is now abundantly clear there the indictments were all politically motivated, Trump still had to withstand the consistent and unrelenting onslaught that consisted of embarrassing, personal, and inaccurate allegations/testimony, the frightening possibility of sitting through one or more criminal trials in mostly hostile jurisdictions and in front of most anti-Trump judges, and the prospect of spending the rest of his life behind bars.

_____________

President Trump will be remembered as one of the greatest American presidents. He made America a great and prosperous place to live for all Americans and created a powerful movement that will never again be replicated.

However, one of his most notable accomplishments will be his decision to fight back against the dangerous and politicized indictments lodged against him. In doing so, he maintained law and order, prevented dangerous court-created precedent, protected Americans from falling victim to a weaponized justice system and politicized indictments, defended the freedom to speak out against injustice or various wrongs, and protected the Constitution and the rule of law.

Trump persevered despite significant opposition and overwhelming odds. He deserves our overwhelming support and gratitude.

COMMENTARY_ Drill, baby, drill and $50 oil to curb inflation

THE WASHINGTON TIMES

Drill, baby, drill and $50 oil to curb inflation

Trump is well positioned to deliver on this campaign promise

Illustration by Greg Groesch for The Washington Times more >

COMMENTARY

By Peter Navarro - Tuesday, November 26, 2024

OPINION:

Of the many reasons President-elect Donald Trump trounced Vice President Kamala Harris, inflation is at or near the top of list. Too many Americans are being forced to choose between food on the table, medicine in the cabinet and a roof over their head. Too many American businesses have been forced into bankruptcy as inflation has squeezed margins; bankruptcy filings have risen by 40% in the past year alone.

There are many ways the president-elect has promised to curb inflation — and thereby bring down interest rates and credit costs. Yet none will be more important than “drill, baby, drill.” This is because of the outsized role that oil, natural gas and petroleum derivatives play directly and indirectly in the cost-price structure of the American economy.

In the transportation sector, it’s jet fuel for airplanes, gasoline for our cars and diesel for our trucks, buses, trains and ships.

Natural gas fires our power plants, gas turbines run our factories, propane helps cook and heat the food we eat. Petroleum is also the feedstock for our lubricants, plastics, polymers and fibers as well as for asphalt for road construction and roofing materials, foam for insulation and plastic for pipes.

In our households, there are personal care products such as cosmetics, shampoos and soaps and our plastic wraps, bags and containers. We even use petroleum products for medical supplies such as IV bags, syringes, and surgical instruments as well as ingredients and pills, capsules and medical devices.

Then there is this chicken-and-egg problem: American’s agricultural production accounts for a full 20% of energy expenditures. On our farms, it’s not just diesel and gasoline that drives our tractors and combines. Nitrogen-based fertilizers are derived from natural gas, while the mining of other types of fertilizers such as phosphates requires lots of energy.

Clearly, the road to price stability — and a return to American strategic energy dominance — runs through the oil fields of Alaska, Colorado, New Mexico and Texas and the fracking wells of Louisiana, Pennsylvania and Texas. If Mr. Trump can get the price of oil back down to $50 a barrel, that alone will shave half a point to a full point off the inflation rate.

Sen. Rand Paul, who will chair the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee beginning in January, said lawmakers will vote on Day One on his bill to block migrants from seeking asylum if they enter the U.S. illegally.

The Kentucky Republican also plans to use his chairmanship to advance legislation to end government funding of illegal immigrant travel within the U.S.

He intends to use the committee’s oversight directive to end the government’s involvement in Big Tech censorship and to use subpoena power to investigate U.S. funding of the development of the virus that causes COVID-19 in a Wuhan, China, laboratory.

Mr. Paul told fellow senators that he sought leadership on the committee to reassert Congress’ oversight role.

“For the health of our republic, Congress must stand up once again for its constitutional role,” Mr. Paul wrote to senators announcing his role. “This committee’s mission of oversight and investigations is critical to Congress reasserting itself.”

The asylum measure would make an immediate and dramatic impact on the flow of illegal immigrants across the southern border.

Vote count: Trump scored GOP’s biggest win in 36 years, Democrats bailed on Harris

VIDEO

By Stephen Dinan - The Washington Times - Tuesday, November 26, 2024

President-elect Donald Trump won’t crack the 50% mark but is still on track for a comfortable win in the popular vote.

Ballots are still being tallied in some slow-counting states three weeks after Election Day, but the size and scope of Mr.
Trump’s victory are firming up in what analysts called a decisive, but not overwhelming, victory for the GOP.

He had roughly 77 million votes banked as of Tuesday morning, compared to nearly 74.5 million for Vice President Kamala Harris. That works out to 49.9% of the vote for Mr. Trump and 48.3% for Ms. Harris. The rest of the votes were sprinkled among the Green Party, Libertarian Party and independent candidates.

Ms. Harris is likely to close that gap a little more, given most of the remaining ballots are on the liberal-leaning West Coast.

But Mr.
Trump’s 312-226 win in the Electoral College should remain unchanged, barring the faithless elector or two.

The results challenge Republicans’ claims of a massive mandate but still give Mr.
Trump the most decisive win for a Republican candidate in 36 years.

“It was a close election by historical standards, although not necessarily by recent standards,” said Kyle Kondik, an analyst at the University of Virginia’s Center for Politics. “This election was probably most comparable to 2004, the last time a Republican won the popular vote, although that was not a sweeping victory and neither was this.”

Mr.
Trump has surpassed his 2020 vote total of 74.2 million. But the bigger factor in the election was Ms. Harris’ stumble, falling from President Biden’s record-shattering 81.3 million votes in 2020.

Election night indications, based on exit polling and early results, suggested that Mr.
Trump improved across geographic and demographic divides. He made significant inroads in the growing Hispanic vote, and did better in counties with heavy Asian-American populations, too.

And he flipped the gender gap, winning men by a larger percentage than Ms. Harris won women — defying the expectations of prognosticators who figured suburban women would doom him.

Perhaps most striking was his ability to eat into Democratic strongholds.

He won Texas by nearly 14 percentage points and Florida by 13 — both larger than Ms. Harris’ 11-point victory in deep-blue New York. New Jersey, considered a safe blue state, ended up with a 6-point lead for Ms. Harris — almost as close as supposedly battleground Arizona, where Mr.
Trump won by 5.5 points.
