The Economist dubs Trump a ‘global risk factor’ — but not for the reasons you might think

In the most recent iteration of its global risk forecast, Economist magazine warns of the threats posed by a number of possible world events. If the Chinese economy were to slow down significantly — which it calls a "high probability" — the effects could be wide-ranging. That's the biggest risk. At the other end of the range is the long-term risk posed by lower investment in oil production. That's a risk, but less of one. And in the middle of the 10-item list, something of a different nature: "Donald Trump wins the U.S. presidential election."

The risk posed by Trump's election is scored a 12, versus the 4 scored by oil investment and the 20 scored by a faltering China. Trump's 12 — described by the magazine as a "moderate probability, high impact" risk — is equal to another item on the list, "The rising threat of jihadi terrorism destabilizes the global economy." That also scores a 12.

To put a fine point on it: Economist sees a Trump election as an equivalent global risk to terrorism destabilizing the world economy

Nobel Laureate Richard Feynman once posited that real power lies with those who make things, not with those who have things. Based on that criteria alone, "free trade" agreements that resulted in manufacturing capabilities shifting to China are a liability, not an asset.

While I'm no supporter of Trump, he is correct in his assessment of these many "free trade" agreements. Real power (based on Feynman's criteria) now rests in China. It is time to bring some of it back home.

I only have 2 points to make. First, does anyone remember that any prediction of Economist became true ? The answer is not a single one. They are just a large blubber-mouth spewing whatever someone paid for.

Second point it is really entertaining to watch how media twist itself in donuts trying to come up with anything to derail Trump and always falling flat on it's face. When will they understand that we do not care for what they think or write. Media gave us Obama. Think about that for a moment.

We passed the racist, misogynist, and disabled bigotry labels last year. Then it was terrorist recruiter, inciter of riots (against his own supporters, nonetheless), then Hitler in early march, and apparently are coming up on terrorist now. How long before we hit anti-Christ?

At what point to people being to realize that the media has descended into rags that don't seem to be able to do anything but play emotions and call people names.

By the way, people soured on these "free trade" agreements after NAFTA started killing all our manufacturing jobs. Perot, it turns out, was right. I guess that's why they're calling Trump names instead of discussing policies.

Mexico is just the first example of Trumps foreign policy savvy. Likewise; if these Authoritarians continue to take `more power it will probably trigger an even greater escalation of the American Civil War. These Authoritarians offer only subjugation and micro-management of the citazens and all demand immediate and absolute blind obedience. People under this form of tyranny are reduced to become only subjugated working stock,(chattel) to support a massive corporate police state capable only of fiercly loud bleating. The massive over-taxation and intense micro-management by all areas of government is no better than slavery and is indeed, no less, than a modern form of slavery.. Their followers and adherents have been bought or miss-lead by media manipulation and other traitors both Democratic and Republican who have sold out the American people all for greed. These despots are using law enforcement and prosecutors and others in addition to politicians to maintain power. these Federal groups are now beginning to use fear and intimidation to seize ever more authority. Every free person on the planet will resist them. These people with their secret courts and loyalty purges along with their illusions of manifest destany all need to be goose-steped right back back into the closet.

I used to actually read the economist, but after a year or two I had the feeling that I was reading the same old recycled content dressed up in new ways. Kind of like reading the WaPo now. At least they don't do listicles- yet.

I'm not a Trump supporter, but if he's making "The Economist" nervous, then that's a point in his favor. The Economist is an elitist rag of socialist Europe, left-wing all the way. Europe exists today because America and our "way" saved their butts twice.......WW1 and WW2. The Economist looks down their noses at America, but they know we are the stability of the world, not them. Even China knows that. "Free trade" has not helped America like it has our trading partners. Working class people sense that and their anger is well founded. Is Trump the answer? Nahhh! But, neither is Hillary - - - she just promises more government "help".

Trump hates free trade?
How about that.
So do most Americans.
Trump will be elected to represent the American people and make America, not China, great again.
