Here’s A List Of Professors And Researchers At American Colleges Who Secretly Worked For China

Throughout the last year, the Justice Department has been cracking down on Chinese government influence in the U.S., with a focus on college campuses, where many researchers and professors have been caught hiding their ties to the Chinese government, accepting funding from China, and selling secret information.
In 2020 alone, several professors were charged with fraud and lying about their ties with the Chinese government, sometimes while also accepting federal research funding from the U.S.
This Twitter thread from Cabot Phillips delineates some of the professors and other academics who were caught secretly aiding the Chinese government from U.S. campuses.

The first mention in the thread is University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) adjunct professor Yi-Chi Shih, who was convicted of charges including lying to a government agency and filling a false tax return, and conspiring to gain unauthorized access to information on a protected computer.

NASA says SpaceX launch is about hope, commerce, the moon, Mars — and China

NASA says the manned SpaceX launch is a step toward going back to the moon and getting to Mars. It’s also tied to U.S. national security as China challenges American dominance in space.
James Morhard, the deputy administrator of NASA since 2018, told the Washington Examiner that the launch scheduled for Saturday, after the first attempt was scrubbed earlier in the week due to stormy Florida weather at Cape Canaveral, is about “leading the beginning of a space revolution — and who leads in space will lead the world.”
Morhard said finally being able to again use American rockets to get astronauts to the International Space Station and beyond “is about having unfettered access to space” as he pointed out that “we have had to rely on the Russians — it’s been nine years since we’ve had a certified American rocket to carry our astronauts.” Ever since the space shuttle program shut down in 2011, the United States has had to hitch a ride on Russian soyuz rockets.
NASA astronauts Bob Behnken and Doug Hurley are scheduled to take off from the Launch Complex 39A at NASA's Kennedy Space Center at 3:22 p.m. EST on Saturday and dock with the International Space Station orbiting the Earth roughly 250 miles above the planet surface. The NASA astronauts will carry out their test mission aboard a SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft powered by Falcon 9 rockets.

“We are once again launching American astronauts on American rockets from American soil. And this is a big moment in time,” Bridenstine said. “Unfortunately, we’re in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic. Our country has been through a lot, but this is a unique moment where all of America can take a moment and look at our country do something stunning again.”
Elon Musk, the founder of SpaceX, said Wednesday that the launch was “one of those things that I think everyone, from all walks of life, from all spots of the political spectrum, in the United States and elsewhere, should be really excited that this is a thing made by humans for humans.”
“It’s our intent first to inspire the next generation, and it’s these stunning achievements that is going to do that,” Morhard said. “But it’s also to instill hope. You know, there’s a lot of suffering going on right now in the United States as well as the world, and we certainly hope that this will instill that hope for people that need it. And the third part of it is to unite the United States again … as well as the world."
Morhard praised Bridenstine for helping get NASA to this point and said President Trump and Vice President Mike Pence deserve a lot of credit.
“This really starts with President Trump and Vice President Pence and their leadership,” Morhard said. “I know that a previous administration got this going, but we wouldn’t be here today if it wasn’t for the president and vice president. They have lit a fire under NASA to get to the moon and to get to Mars.”

Attorney General William Barr said Sunday that the Department of Justice will treat violence by individuals associated with Antifa as domestic terrorism in a statement that condemned the far-left group and asserted that protests against police brutality and racial inequality following George Floyd's death have "been hijacked."
Such demonstrations in cities nationwide have turned into violent riots complete with looting, attacks against police and arson.
Barr's statement came after President Trump earlier Sunday said he would designate Antifa as a terrorist organization. Antifa -- short for "anti-fascist" -- has very little central organization but violent left-wing protesters, particularly in places like Portland, Ore., often act under the Antifa banner.

"With the rioting that is occurring in many of our cities around the country, the voices of peaceful and legitimate protests have been hijacked by violent radical elements. Don’t let rioting thugs derail America’s search for justice

“That is not a protest. It is not a statement. It’s people, a handful of people, taking advantage of a situation for their own purposes — and they need to be treated as criminals,” said the commander in chief. “. . . A handful of criminals and thugs who tore up the place.”
The president, of course, was Barack Obama, talking about rioting that followed the protests over Freddie Gray’s 2015 death in Baltimore. The difference is that Obama faced a fraction of the backlash from the liberal media as Donald Trump did for tweeting the same word to describe the looters: Thugs.
Both presidents were right. A thug is not black or white, a thug is a person who takes the righteous anger over an injustice like George Floyd and burns down an affordable housing complex. A thug is someone who uses a protest to rob Scores Sports Bar in Minneapolis, owned by a black firefighter, KB Balla, who poured every cent he had into the business.
A thug is someone who vandalized a city, causing Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms to plead, “What I see happening on the streets of Atlanta is not Atlanta. This is not a protest. This is not in the spirit of Martin Luther King, Jr.”

A thug is someone who just wants to watch it burn, as Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz said yesterday. “The situation in Minneapolis is no longer in any way about the murder of George Floyd, it is about attacking civil society, instilling fear, and disrupting our great cities. As you saw this expand across the United States, and you start to see whether it be domestic terrorism, whether it be ideological extremists to fan the group, or whether it be international destabilization of how our country works.”

The American project continues, and this country grapples with racism and fairness every day. There will be protests to make things better, as there should be, and we believe that it is in us as a nation to get better. We need to get better. And we cannot let the thugs derail that.

DOJ announces civil rights investigation into George Floyd's death
Attorney General William Barr issued a statement Saturday decrying the rioters who have violently hijacked peaceful protests over the killing of George Floyd by Minneapolis police. The attorney general made explicit reference to “groups of outside radicals and agitators” who are pursuing a “separate and violent agenda.”
Barr added: “In many places, it appears the violence is planned, organized and driven by anarchist and far left extremists, using Antifa-like tactics, many of whom travel from out of state to promote the violence.”
The mention of Antifa is significant. It is a loosely-knit, interstate movement whose objective is to wage a terrorist war against the United States, using violence against the government and our civilian infrastructure.
DUELING CLAIMS: TRUMP BLAMES ANTIFA FOR RIOTS, MINNESOTA OFFICIALS POINT FINGERS AT WHITE SUPREMACISTS AND CARTELS
Equally salient is the attorney general’s assertion that the radical groups involved in the rioting are pursuing a specific, violent agenda. That obviously refers to the ongoing campaign to coerce acceptance by the country of these groups’ counter-constitutional totalitarianism. Barr vowed that the Justice Department will take enforcement action across the nation.

The failure to confront radicals only increases their energy and appetite to do harm. Order does not happen spontaneously. It takes a commitment to enforce the laws.

Attorney General William Barr on Saturday slammed left-leaning groups for hijacking those who have been peacefully protesting the death of George Floyd. According to Barr it has become apparent that people are crossing state lines to purposely incite violence.
"Unfortunately, with the rioting that is occurring in many of our cities around the country, the voices of peaceful protests are being hijacked by violent radical elements. Groups of outside radicals and agitators are exploiting the situation to pursue their own separate and violent agenda," Barr said. "In many places it appears the violence is planned, organized, and driven by an anarchic and left-extremist groups, far-left extremist groups using Antifa-like tactics, many of whom have traveled outside the state to promote the violence."
The attorney general reminded state and local governments that they have a responsibility to maintain the rule of law and protect citizens.
"The Department of Justice, including the FBI, the U.S. Marshals, the ATF, the DEA and our 93 United States Attorneys' offices around the country are supporting these local efforts, will continue to support them and take all action necessary to enforce federal law," he explained.
He reminded people that traveling to another state or to use "interstate facilities" to start or participate in rioting is a crime.

Joe Biden refers often to his roots in middle and working-class America. Speaking in his birthplace of Scranton, Pa., last year, Biden stated: “We were raised to believe family, loyalty, treating everyone with dignity is what we should do, because a lot of us knew what it was like not to be treated with dignity by people with wealth.”
However sincere his personal narrative may be, Biden’s actual politics tell a different story. Somewhere along the way, Biden chose to embrace globalism and the priorities of global wealth over the interests of the American worker. Comfortable in the highest reaches of government, the son of Scranton became a platinum-level member of the globalist elite.
As a senator who voted for the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), Biden is, in fact, one of the Founding Fathers of modern globalism and American industrial decline. While there is debate about NAFTA’s precise impact on employment, there can be no dispute that it cost the US many well-compensated manufacturing jobs. It favored shareholders over workers and their communities; it enriched investors but weakened the country.

Historic liftoff: SpaceX launches NASA astronauts into orbit
NASA astronauts blast off into space on a SpaceX rocket bound for the International Space Station.
SpaceX has launched NASA astronauts Doug Hurley and Bob Behnken on their historic Demo-2 mission to the International Space Station (ISS). The mission is the first time that astronauts have launched from American soil since the final Space Shuttle flight in 2011.
Hurley and Behnken blasted off from Kennedy Space Center’s historic launch pad 39A, which was also used for the Apollo and space shuttle programs, at 3:22 p.m. ET Saturday. An attempt on Wednesday was scrubbed due to weather conditions.
The launch is the first time a private company, rather than a national government, has sent astronauts into orbit.

"Today was just an amazing day," NASA administrator Jim Bridenstine said shortly after the launch. "I can breathe a sigh of relief but I can also tell you that I'm not going to celebrate until Bob and Doug are home safely."
Bridenstine said he was praying for the astronauts during the liftoff. "I have heard that rumble [of a rocket launch] before, but it's a whole different feeling when you've got your own team on that rocket."

Keane explained to host Martha MacCallum that Xi, like many observers, was shocked by President Trump's defeat of Hillary Clinton in 2016 and a subsequent description of China as a strategic "competitor" to the U.S.

US warns: Huawei 5G package is ‘obsolete by the time its operational’

Countries purchasing Huawei’s 5G wireless technology risk buying into a “China-only” telecommunications industry that lacks access to Western innovations, according to U.S. officials.
“These networks are not going to be up for two to three years; the stuff they're buying now will be outdated by then,” said Adam Boehler, who leads the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation. “You're essentially locking yourself into an outdated technology immediately. And so you've given up your national security for something that's going to weigh you down in infrastructure that is obsolete by the time it's operational.”
That warning takes aim at one of the central claims of Huawei’s sales pitch, as the flagship Chinese telecommunications giant is regarded as a pioneer of 5G wireless technology. President Trump’s administration regards the company as a platform for Chinese intelligence services, a suspicion driving a wave of U.S. policies designed to exclude the company from the Western telecommunications industry.
“Just saying, listen, be thoughtful, because the decisions you're making, it's not like your whole 5G system is up in six months from now,” Boehler said to summarize his message to foreign governments considering a Huawei deal. “You're making decisions and making bets that are coming up years from now. And do you want to bet on this today, or do you want to be thoughtful about a more software-driven virtualization solution.”

President Trump on Friday issued his response to China’s assault on Hong Kong’s autonomy, and as a statement of solidarity it was welcome. The problem is that the punishment will fall mainly on the innocent people of Hong Kong rather than on the perpetrators in Beijing. A better idea would give Hong Kongers an escape route to America.

Twitter needs to fact-check these tweets from prominent liberals

This week, for the first time, Twitter “fact-checked” one of President Trump’s opinions and redirected users to coverage from that paragon of fairness and objectivity, CNN (don’t laugh).
Twitter announced the introduction of the new feature earlier this month. The goal, two workers wrote, is to “make it easy to find credible information” and to stanch the flow of “misleading content.”
But I wonder: Will the platform also append “fact-check” labels and links to tweets from prominent liberals that also turned out to be “misleading” or outright false?

Harvard law professor and #Resistance icon Laurence Tribe in December 2017 asked his followers to “retweet if, like me, you’re aware of nothing in the Christopher Steele dossier that has been shown to be false.” Nearly 8,000 did retweet, despite the fact that the dossier has been thoroughly debunked.
Finally, on a local note: Surely, if a tweet should come with a health hazard, it was city Councilman Mark Levine’s February invitation to Gothamites to celebrate the Lunar New Year in Chinatown “in defiance of the coronavirus”: “If you are staying away, you are missing out!”

When it comes to violating Facebook's guidelines, it is often anyone's guess what will fly and what will fall.
As President Trump's rhetoric against social media companies and censorship gains momentum following Twitter's decision to red flag some of his posts for containing false information or glorifying violence, troubling questions still plague Facebook's mixed censorship policies.
"Facebook has a massive set of content guidelines that are so broad and extensive they could ban almost any content," Dan Gainor, VP of Business and Culture Media Research Center, told Fox News. "In addition, Facebook just announced a new Oversight Board that will handle content appeals. That board is overwhelmingly international and lacks American support for First Amendment ideals."
Nonetheless, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has sought to distance his platform from the President's Twitter feud, insisting in an interview on Fox News this week that his company has "a different policy than Twitter," and that they are "stronger on free expression" than other tech giants.
Earlier this week, Trump announced he would introduce legislation – by executive order – that would diminish a law that ultimately protects Internet companies and social media conglomerates such as Twitter and Facebook from statutory liability protections, and would cut federal funding for tech companies that engage in censorship and political conduct.
But for foreign governments and interests groups, there may be more wiggle room, analysts contend.

For example, Iran-backed groups have had a long track record of using the platform for propaganda – and lethal – purposes, of which both the shadowy outfits behind them and Facebook itself has seemingly profited.
Last year, Facebook was filled with "sponsored" content featuring signs "Death to America."

Victoria’s controversial deal with China is raising concerns with critics saying Premier Daniel Andrews is a “bloody idiot” to sign up.

Victoria’s secretive agreement with China — part of its controversial Belt and Road Initiative — has come under scrutiny this week after the US threatened to “disconnect” from Australia if the deal threatened telecommunications.
Victoria’s partnership with China has always been controversial but it is now drawing more critics as concerns grow about China’s actions in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.
China has hit out at Australia, placing a tariff of almost 80 per cent on its barley and blocking beef imports from four abattoirs, after Australia called for an independent inquiry into the origins of COVID-19.
The US has also raised concerns about the possible ramifications of working too closely with China.
On Sunday, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo created headlines when he said the US wouldn’t hesitate to “disconnect” from Australia if Victoria’s involvement in China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) threatened its telecommunications security.

However, Premier Daniel Andrews suggested this week the finalisation of the agreement could be pushed back.
“It’s fair to say people’s focus was on a global pandemic rather than necessarily some of those issues,” he told reporters on Wednesday.
“But when we’re in a position to make further announcements, we will.”
Victoria’s decision to pursue the deal flies in the face of the Australian Government’s stance not to sign up to the BRI.
One Nation leader Pauline Hanson is just one critic who believes Victoria should not be pursing the deal.
“People need to steer clear of China … Daniel Andrews I’ll tell you now you’re a bloody idiot if you head down this path,” she told Sky News.
Senator Hanson pointed to Beijing’s actions to seize a port in Sri Lanka after the country struggled to pay back a loan for the project.
“You have to look at what China has done to other countries,” Ms Hanson said.
“They want countries to be beholden to them.”

Former Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein is a master of prevarication and deflection. He holds an M.S. in BS and a Ph.D. in vacuous excuses. He’s a professor emeritus of duplicity and deception. As a prodigious suck-up, he’s the Eddie Haskell of lawyers.
We can expect Rosenstein’s skill set to be on full display Wednesday when he finally and belatedly appears before the Senate Judiciary Committee as its first witness in an investigation into the origins and evolution of the fallacious Trump-Russia collusion probe.
During his ignominious tenure at the Justice Department, Rosenstein was at the center of the Russia hoax, pulling the investigatory levers of manipulation over an imaginary collusion conspiracy that eventually went bust. But not before incalculable damage was done to the Trump presidency, government institutions and America’s faith in our system of justice.

Trump signs executive order against social media companies

President Trump on Thursday ramped up his war with social media companies by signing an executive order that aims to curtail their legal liability protections – two days after Twitter slapped fact check labels to a pair of his tweets about fraud in mail-in voting for the first time.
“We’re here today to defend free speech from one of the greatest dangers it has faced in American history,” Trump said before signing the executive order in the Oval Office where Attorney General Bill Barr was present.
“A small handful of powerful social media monopolies,” Trump said, “had unchecked power to censure, restrict, edit, shape, hide, alter virtually any form of communication between private citizens or large public audiences.”
Trump declared, “We can’t let this continue to happen, it’s very, very unfair.”
The president added, “This censorship and bias is a threat to freedom itself. Imagine if your phone company silenced or edited your conversation. Social media companies have vastly more power in the United States than newspapers, they’re by far more rich than any other traditional forms of communication.”

Civil Rights Activist Says Pulitzer’s Award To NYT ‘1619 Project’ Reinforces A ‘Hate America First Initiative’

Civil rights activist Bob Woodson slammed the Pulitzer for awarding the New York Times’ lead writer of the “1619 Project” an award in commentary.
The “1619 Project” was written by journalists and opinion writers and aims “to reframe the country’s history” by suggesting America’s “true founding” was when the first slaves arrived in 1619. NYT writer Nikole Hannah-Jones received a Pulitzer Prize for her work with the project on May 4, a move that Woodson says reinforces the project’s supposed “hate America first initiative.”
“I think the awarding of Nikole Hannah-Jones the Pulitzer for her essay … really is a part of a narrative that started five decades ago on the part of the left to really denigrate the country to disparage its beginnings, to re-write its history, to suggest on these essays that America should be defined primarily by its birth defect of slavery,” Woodson told the Daily Caller.
Woodson is the founder of The Woodson Center as well as the “1776 Initiative,” which is a project aimed at combating the teachings of the “1619 Project.”

Hong Kong crackdown raises question: What does Xi Jinping fear?

Chinese communist officials are making major policy decisions and even public pronouncements that suggest unease about the potential for domestic political friction, China watchers say.
“I think he's worried about his own domestic political standing,” former Australian defense ministry adviser Patrick Buchan said of Xi Jinping, the general secretary of the Chinese Communist Party. “Furthermore, what he's worried about is any outbreak of a pro-democracy or anti-CCP sentiment, which further adds to fuel to his own domestic political [stress] in the party.”
That assessment came apropos of Xi’s decision to unveil national security legislation pertaining to Hong Kong that local dissidents and U.S. officials regard as a historic move to dominate the former British colony. The move could come at significant costs for China’s economy, but Chinese communist officials raised the specter of protests against the central government in Beijing when unveiling the decision.
“Using Hong Kong to infiltrate and sabotage the mainland touches on our bottom line,” National People’s Congress standing committee vice chairman Wang Chen said while outlining legislation that would extend the mainland government’s control over the territory. “It is absolutely not tolerable.”

"So, no doubt, this exercise of power, this demonstration of force is really actually proof of weakness and internal fear.”

Blumenthal acknowledged that Xi has devoted significant effort to “coup-proof” the party and ensure that he controls the levers of power, but he and Buchan agree that Xi is on alert for grumbling within and without the party.
“If you allow any dissent, in their mind, it spreads quickly,” said Buchan, the Australian analyst. “Xi is on a high wire at the moment.”

America really doesn’t need Silicon Valley to get into the fact-checking biz

No American, not even the president, has a right to a social-media account. Tech firms are free to ban any user they see fit. They’re free to “fact-check” anyone and enforce their policies consistently or capriciously. They’re free to do all these things.
Even if they shouldn’t.
This week, after years of pressure from the left, Twitter labeled two of President Trump’s tweets — in which he warned of fraud associated with mail-in ballots — as “potentially misleading.” It’s a mistake for any platform to drop its neutral stance. It will corrode trust without changing a single mind.

Trump is the first president to take advantage of direct, instantaneous access to millions of Americans. Whether this is helpful to his cause is debatable. Certainly, we are blessed that the president’s policies and rhetoric are often disconnected.
Whatever the case, though, we have an entire industry that stands ready to challenge the veracity of his statements. We don’t need Twitter to join in the fact-checking game. Silicon Valley doesn’t have the resources, knowledge or people to do it correctly.
